OH NO, THEY’RE EVERYWHERE!:
Of course I’m speaking of those damn American Idol finalists! This week, last season’s second runner-up KIMBERLEY LOCKE debuts on the Hot 100 at #78 with her song “8TH World Wonder.” That means that all three of the top finalists of last years show are currently represented on the pop chart now.
1ST runner-up CLAY AIKEN is at #92 this week with “Invisible,” and season two winner RUBEN STUDDARD is currently in the #13 position with his recent Top 10 hit “Sorry 2004.” I can’t think of any other instance when three different stars of the same TV series all had solo singles on the Billboard Hot 100, but then considering the subject of the American Idol series, it’s a pretty special case. Imagine if back in 1980, Tootie, Jo, and Mrs. Garrett all had pop hits!
Things are bound to be even more Idolish next week as Clay’s new single, “The Way,” makes a very high debut (possibly even in the #1 spot, which will be his second #1 debut following last years “This Is The Night.”) At the very least Aiken’s “The Way” will definitely knock Locke’s “8TH World Wonder” single out of the #1 spot on the Single Sales chart, which will be the first time I know of when two roommates will have consecutive #1’s on any of the pop singles charts.
BOY’S NOT SO BAD THIS TIME AROUND:
P. DIDDY’S Bad Boy Records scores the highest debut on the Billboard Album Chart this week with the “greatest Hits” collection: BAD BOY’S 10TH ANNIVERSARY...THE HITS.
I guess a #2 debut, moving 149,000 copies in one week is pretty impressive, but then you must consider that Bad Boy’s last compilation release: WE INVENTED THE REMIX, debuted#1 back in 2002, and moved 255,000 units in it’s first week.
There are many great songs on the new “hits” collection, including: “Big Poppa” by NOTORIOUS B.I.G., “Flava In Ya Ear” by CRAIG MACK, “I Wish,” by CARL THOMAS, and Diddy’s own “All About The Benjamins,” but I guess if you dig this stuff, you probably already own all these classics anyway!
WHAT CAN IT BE, IS IT SOME NEW DISEASE?:
No, it’s just that good ole “Boogie Fever!”
So long to EDMUND SYLVERS, a founding member of the classic ‘70s disco band THE SYLVERS, whose biggest hits were the #1 pop and #1 R&B smash from 1976, “Boogie Fever,” and the Top Ten follow-up “Hot Line.”
Edmund died March 11TH, at the age of 47. He leaves behind eight brothers and sisters, eleven children...and a discotheque filled with people doing the bump, bump, bump!

ROCK & ROLL TRIVIA QUESTION:
Test your rock IQ and answer my question!
Name the singer, who back in 1970, had two singles peak at #13, one single peak at #5, one single reach #9, and one peak at #87, but all five recorded under different artist names!
THE ANSWER:
This mystery man’s name is TONY BURROWS. Burrows fronted several studio groups in 1970, including: EDISON LIGHTHOUSE, who peaked at #5 with, “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes),” BROTHERHOOD OF MAN, who reached #13 with, “United We Stand,” WHITE PLAINS, who took “My Baby Loves Lovin’,” to #13, and THE PIPKINS, who peaked at #9 with, “Gimme Dat Ding,” not to mention he also reached #87 that year with a song recorded under his real name, called: “Melanie Makes Me Smile.”
That wasn’t the end of Burrows career however...in 1974 Tony fronted the band FIRST CLASS, and took “Beach Baby” all the way to #4!
THIS OR THAT: The answers to each of these questions are both song titles, and popular artists. See how many you know!
1) A #1 hit for PRINCE & THE REVOLUTION, or the classic rockers who reached the top ten with “Beth.”
2) A #6 hit in 1955 for EDDIE FISHER, or the Seattle rock band who spent three weeks at #1 with “Alone.”
3) THE MONOTONES #5 hit from 1958, or the alternative band with the hit “Pretty Boys & Pretty Girls.”
4) A #3 R&B hit for STEPHANIE MILLS, or the 80’s girl-group with the chart-topper: “If Wishes Came True.”
5) The #14 hit from 1976 by WING & A PRAYER FIFE & DRUM CORPS., or the vocalist/producer who hit the chart with “It’s No Crime,” and “Whip Appeal.”
6) BILLY OCEAN’S #2 hit from 1985, or the Canadian rockers who sang about “Hot Girls In Love.”
7) PRINCE’S final #1 hit, or ERIC CLAPTON’S short lived “super-group.”
8) GRAHAM CENTRAL STATION’S #15 R&B hit from 1976, or the British trio who topped the UK chart with “Beat Surrender,” and “Town Called Malice.”
9) ELVIS PRESLEY’S #5 hit from 1961, or the soulful 70’s girl-group that featured SLY STONE’S sister.
10) LONNIE MACK’S rockabilly instrumental top 40 hit from 1963, or the popular ‘80s duo whose first #1 hit began with the words “Jitter-bug!”
