OLDIES BUT GOODIES:
The old is new again, as several artists who first made the album chart back in the ‘60s have new debuts this week.
BARBRA STREISAND, who first charted back in 1963 with the #8 peaking THE BARBRA STREISAND ALBUM, debuts at #5 this week with THE MOVIE ALBUM, her highest ranking album since the #1 HIGHER GROUND, back in 1997.
SIMON & GARFUNKEL are next on the chart at #27, with THE ESSENTIAL SIMON & GARFUNKEL, ranking one spot below the new re-mix collection from MARIAH CAREY. S&G first graced the album chart back in January of 1966, with WEDNESDAY MORNING, 3 AM, which peaked at #30.
LIVE & SWINGIN’: THE ULTIMATE RAT PACK COLLECTION, is new at #38, for Rat Packers FRANK SINATRA, DEAN MARTIN & SAMMY DAVIS JR. All three of these artists have charted albums pre-dating the rock era (1955) so my info won’t go back that far!
Welsh legend TOM JONES first charted in 1965 with: IT’S NOT UNUSUAL. Now, RELOADED: GREATEST HITS debuts at #171, his first album on the Top 200 chart since 1981!
Incidentally, as PAUL SIMON enjoys the #27 debut of his latest, his wife, folk-rocker EDIE BRICKELL, also makes her own comeback this week, with the #188 debut of VOLCANO.
DRIFTING ON AND ON AND ON AND ON:
Call it the “song that wouldn’t go away,” as “Drift Away” by UNCLE KRACKER Featuring DOBIE GRAY logs it’s record breaking 22nd week at #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart this week.
“Drift” snatches the record from CELINE DION’S “A New Day Has Come” which held onto the top for 21 weeks, back in 2002.
Hey Adult Contemporary radio listeners! Change the station, there’s other good music out there...somewhere!
