THE BIGGEST THING SINCE “TITANIC”:
Okay, not really, but this week the soundtrack to BAD BOYS II becomes the first film soundtrack to spend three consecutive weeks at #1 on the album chart, since the soundtrack to JAMES CAMERON’S all-time box office hit, back in ‘98!
Not bad, since BAD BOYS II only spent one week at the top of the film chart (and it sucked!).
The soundtrack to EMINEM’S 2002 film 8 MILE spent four weeks at #1, but no more than two weeks at a time. In fact, although movie soundtracks have long been strong sellers in the market, there were no soundtracks hitting #1 on the Billboard Top 200 in 1999, 2000, or 2001.
R&B “supergroup” LSG have the highest debut on the album chart this week, with the follow-up to their 1997 debut. The group, which consists of: GERALD LEVERT, KEITH SWEAT, and JOHNNY GILL debut at #6 on the chart with LSG2, two spots lower than the debut of their first release, at #4. The new album also sells less than half of what the other one did in its first week.
Let’s blame that on the bad economy!
Here’s a big sarcastic thanks to Billboard Magazine. The weekly publication that is the topic of my column has decided to remove several charts from its magazine, and post them to its on-line site. So now, if you want all of Billboard’s charts, you not only have to pay for the zine, but you also have to pay the ridiculous web price!
Now, if they can find a way to give some of that dough to the artists, producers, and songwriters, they wouldn’t need to stop illegal downloading!
Here’s a correction from my last article: It must be all those drugs I’ve taken, but I screwed up and said KISS were celebrating their 25th anniversary, when they actually are celebrating their 30th anniversary!
Obviously, since I mentioned their first album came out in 1974, I knew that one, but I guess my hand was quicker than my brain (again!) Special thanks to Grimreaper2003, who pointed out my mistake. And we all enjoy knowing we made a mistake!
This week, I’ve added the Top 10 Downloaded tracks, just because I think it’s interesting!

ROCK & ROLL TRIVIA QUESTION:
Test your rock IQ and answer my question!
LAST WEEK’S QUESTION:
Read the clues, and identify this 70’s “One-Hit-Wonder” singer/songwriter:
His biggest hit reached #1 on the Hot 100, & the Country & Western Chart, and #2 in the U.K.
The song was later made into a popular movie
After the hit, the artist was elected Mayor of an American city
& Just last week, this artist was at #1 on one of Billboards charts
Who is it?
THE ANSWER:
10-4 Good Buddies! C.W. McCall was actually an advertising executive named Bill Fries, when he created a “world-wide” sensation in 1976, with the mega-hit: “Convoy.”
In 1978, the song was the basis for WILD BUNCH director Sam Peckinpah’s hit CONVOY, starring Kris Kristofferson.
In the early ‘80s, Fries was elected Mayor of Ouray, Colorado.
And just one week ago, McCall was sitting at top of the New Age Albums chart with his “American Spirit” collection performed with MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER.
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
