THIS WEEK’S CHARTS:
U.S. Singles Chart: After a short three week break, 50 CENT defeats SEAN PAUL to find himself back on top of the pop singles chart this week, with “21 Questions.” Cent’s previous #1, “In Da Club,” which is currently at #8, spent 9 weeks at the top, beginning March 8th.
Adding to his total domination of the U.S. pop chart, 50 CENT also debuts at #70 this week, with “P.I.M.P.” This gives the rapper four songs on the Hot 100, (three of which are currently in the top 10), and seven hits on the R&B Chart.
“21 Questions” is now the fifth #1 hit on the Hot 100 Chart, to begin with a number in the title. The others are:

Album Chart: MARILYN MANSON collects his second #1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Chart this week, with “The Golden Age Of The Grotesque,” which kicks off with sales in the 118,000s. That is the smallest amount for any album to debut at #1 since Billboard began keeping track of actual weekly sales, 12 years ago.
Manson’s previous stop at #1 was 1998’s “Mechanical Animals,” which started with nearly double the sales amount of “Grotesque.” Although Brian Warner and his band have yet to make any significant head way on the pop singles chart, they have made the Modern Rock Charts, and the Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart several times, including their latest: “Mobscene,” which is currently at #26 on the Modern chart, and #21 on the Mainstream chart.
Another interesting side note to this weeks album chart: all of the top three this week are on Interscope Records, and it’s the first time one label has held the top 3 since, again, Interscope managed to hold the top 4, the week of December 7th, 1996. That week the top 4 were held by, BUSH, SNOOP DOGG, NO DOUBT, and MAKAVELI (2PAC).

ROCK & ROLL TRIVIA QUESTION: Test your rock IQ and answer my question!
LAST WEEK’S QUESTION: Below you’ll find a list of five Academy Award winners, all of whom you’ve probably heard of. But, what you might not know is that all but one of them has made the pop charts in the U.K. Which one has been Oscar winner, but not British pop star?
1) CATHERINE ZETA-JONES
2) ANTHONY HOPKINS
3) NICOLE KIDMAN
4) LEE MARVIN
5) CLINT EASTWOOD
THE ANSWERS: Ok, I tried to pull a fast one on you this week, believe it or not, all five of these Oscar winning superstars have scored hit singles in the U.K.!
1) Mrs. Michael Douglas, Best Supporting Actress 2002, CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, made the British charts three times in the 1990’s: “For All Time” reached #36 in 1992, “True Love Ways,” a duet with DAVID ESSEX, peaked at #38 in 1994, and “In The Arms Of Love” spent one week at #72, in 1995.
2) Best Actor 1991, SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS spent a week at #75 on the U.K. chart in 1986 with a song called “Distant Star.”
3) Best Actress 2002 NICOLE KIDMAN, and her MOULIN ROUGE co-star EWAN McGREGOR debuted on the British charts at #27, with their international soundtrack hit “Come What May,” in September of 2001.
4) LEE MARVIN, who took home the Best Actor trophy for 1965’s CAT BALLOU, topped the U.K. charts in 1970, with “Wand’rin’ Star,” from the musical western PAINT YOUR WAGON.
5) And finally, Marvin’s Wagon co-star CLINT EASTWOOD, who took home the Best Director Oscar for 1992’s UNFORGIVEN, reached #18, with the song that was on the flip-side of Lee’s #1 hit, called: “I Talk To The Trees.”
6) For the record, none of these artists ever made the U.S. singles chart, with the exception of Eastwood, who made a guest appearance with T.G. SHEPPARD on the novelty hit “Make My Day,” in 1984.
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION: Only once in the rock era (’55-Present) has one version of a song knocked another version out of the #1 spot. What song was it?
(THEME FROM) ANOTHER SILLY POP MUSIC QUIZ: Use all your smarts, and solve these questions about pop charting themes!
1) “Believe It Or Not,” this TV theme got all the way to #2 in 1981, even though the series it came from only flew around the airwaves for less than two years. What is it?
2) This movie theme, which reached #1 in 1976, was originally passed over by the Academy Award nominating committee for Best Song, until the films producers threw a fit. The academy then threw out the nominees, and let all the members vote, which resulted in a Oscar nomination for the song. But, it still lost! What theme is it?
3) JOEL DIAMOND charted in 1981 with a song called “Cavalleria Rusticana,” which was the theme to a 1980 Martin Scorsese film that many consider to be the best film of the 80s. What is it?
4) This country legend performed the theme, and narrated, a popular late 70s-early 80s TV show about a couple of ‘Good Ol’ Boys.’ Name him, and the show!
5) Originally, this movie theme, performed by LIZA MINELLI, was a big flop, and didn’t even get an Oscar nomination, but after being covered a few years later, by FRANK SINATRA, it became a Top 40 hit, and a pop culture standard. Name it!
6) CURTIS MAYFIELD’S top five hit “Freddie’s Dead,” was actually the theme to what 1970s blaxplotation hit?
7) Before he served up the children’s lunches on SOUTH PARK, ISAAC HAYES won an Oscar, and a #1 hit, with what movie theme?
8) Legendary composer/conductor JOHN WILLIAMS performed the theme to the third biggest film of all-time, but his version didn’t chart. However, a cover version by the guy who did “A Fifth Of Beethoven” did. What theme is it?
9) Speaking of JOHN WILLIAMS, he was on the Hot 100 with movie themes simultaneously with cover versions by disco producer MECO. Which themes were they?
10) This composer/conductor’s “Pink Panther Theme,” is one of the most recognized movie themes in the world. Who is he?
11) Barry White’s LOVE UNLIMITED ORCHESTRA charted in 1977, with a “disco-fied” version of the theme to one of 1976’s biggest ”monster” hits. What was it?
12) MIKE POST had two popular TV themes that both peaked at #10. What were they?
13) Of the five (so-far) ROCKY movies, this was the only one whose theme did not make the Hot 100.
