I Started a Joke...

Back in 2000, I made up an AICN-like website called Movie Poop Shoot for the JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK screenplay.

The first iteration of the fictional site's crossover into the real world hit the web May 2001, as a page of hostile posts calling me out as a hack. Buried in one of those faux-posts was the hidden internet-only teaser trailer for JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3f1UOxOxuI ).

In 2002, we took the fake site live as www.moviepoopshoot.com. Launching as a less agro-version of our namesake, the site collected stories from every corner of the pop culture world. Bloggers, original comic strips, and Bryan Lynch defined the site's first five years.

In 2006, former IGN-er Ken Plume joined us, and the site said goodbye to its media-challenged moniker for good. Re-launched as Quick Stop Entertainment, www.quickstopent.com eventually became best known as the home of SModcast.

So it's been almost ten years for the little site that shouldn't have ever been. The toys that intrigued me years back don't really capture my imagination anymore; when that happens, it's best to give the toys to a kid who'll appreciate them.

The site was never a profit-center (from day one, more of a money pit), but I always dug the spirit of the enterprise; and for a little while, it afforded me the chance to be a podunk Charles Foster Kane ("I think it would be fun to run a newspaper..."). But after a decade, it's clear that Movie Poop Shoot eventually did what it was apparently brought into existence to do: inspire SModcast. For that, it'll always be beyond priceless to me.

But not priceless enough to keep alive anymore.

As of January 1, www.quickstopent.com, the former www.moviepoopshoot.com, goes dormant.

In its place, however? Site editor-in-chief Ken Plume (co-host of many podcasts, DJ for the one Scott and I do) will inherit the ol' girl and re-christen her one last time. He's decided to call her, simply...

Fred.

The new URL for the site is www.asitecalledfred.com.

If you've liked everything about Plume's QuickStopEnt.com EXCEPT SModcast, then you're gonna LOVE Fred. Ken's been quietly building one of the most diverse and interesting portfolios of interviews on the web; that tradition will carry on with Fred.

But, whither SModcast, you ask? Well, where it belongs at this point: www.smodcast.com The quickstopent.com address was unnecessarily goose-chasey. Now, it's all clean: get SModcast at smodcast.com. (Additionally, we'll be dropping the SModcast-to-iTunes one week delay). As always, SModcast is freer than fuck.

Thanks to all the Shoot/Stop contributors, editors, readers and fans who put so much of themselves into all the incarnations of this site. It was never a waste of your time; it was always appreciated.
