Killer Instinct and Turtles in Time for SNES, & Goldeneye on N64, baby!
Omaru
06-18-2004, 04:44 PM
Yeah Turtles in time was actually better than the arcade version thanks to bosses like the one where you have to throw the foot sodiers at the control booth with shredder inside.
DarthMaulRat
06-18-2004, 06:57 PM
Agreed. Turtles in Time is one of the best beat-em-ups for the SNES, tied with Battle Toads. I always thought they were the best and I reached the same conclusion after going through some 400+ games in the SNES library. Damn you emulators, damn you!!

What kind of a heathen doesn't at least mention the old Pitfall Atari game? You can play it on PS2, y'know, if you get that Activision '80s arcade games game.
Sure, it didn't age that well with all the cool shit games can do now, but that and Dig Dug (and Galaga, Dave) helped me become the degenerate that I am now.
Tetris for Nintendo is still maybe the most addictive game I've ever played. But roaming the streets of Vice City: GTA and capping people in the head is right up there with that. And I expect the Spider-Man 2 game to have the same effect.
DarthMaulRat
06-18-2004, 09:07 PM
Old favorites, eh?
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons for Intellivision is a little known classic that is a precursor to Zelda. You travel on an overworld and enter overhead maze-like dungeons in which you shoot a bow and arrow at enemies and gather tools to help you cross the overworld. It's one of those extremely old games that's worth playing decades later.
And the gameplay device that deserves a comeback is the paddle controller. Arkanoid, Super Break Out, the many Pong machines, Bomb Squad, they're all still challenging and addictive years later.
Oh, and what ever happened to the LucasArts point & click adventures. Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, those were all funny as hell and offered hours of gameplay.

LONG LIVE UNREAL TOURNAMENT!!!!!
The first is the best. UT2003 was funny as hell with the ragdoll effect and i havn't had a go of UT2004 but I'm not holding my breath. I also love Devil May Cry 1 & 2 on Playstation. Awesome games. And of course GTA: Vice City has no equal. Ghost Recon is also fun on the XBox.
karmattack
06-21-2004, 10:52 AM
actually, UT2004 is pretty awesome. It has all the boards from '03 along with close to 100 new ones. It has vehicles (the exact same setup as Halo if you're familiar), plus team management and aquisition is much better. The graphics will challenge any computer on the market for years.
The only part that's been pissing me off is the A.I. actually DOES ajust to your skill. It's rough stuff.

Yeah, I have heard it is pretty good. And yes I love playing Halo. Slaughtering pokemon-like things is always fun! But the first Unreal Torunament is GOD! After downloading heaps of mods, like Unreal4Eva and Headhunters, just makes it ten times more fun and funny. The only thing that could top it would be to add the Ragdoll into it. In 2003 the ragdoll is so funny! I pissed myself the first time I played it. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I imagine the meeting went something like this:
Executive #1: Would we like to make more money?
Executive #2: Hmmm... Yes.
Executive #1: Then its settled, we'll make a sequel to Gears of War.
Programmer: Is that all we pay you for? I could've made that decision!
Executive #2: One more outburst from you and we're outsourcing this project to Japan.

Have you guys seen the video of the updates to the Unreal engine that was taken at the GDC? They use Gears of War for all the demos. It's a pretty good picture of how the game is growing visually. It's pretty choice.

I don't know what's worse, the fact that I know for a fact that if the dude doing the presentation EVER saw a naked woman, he would immediately cry, "Yeah! Boobs. Hurray." Or the plain truth that he could buy and sell me 100 times without outspending his budget...and I would let him...because I worship at the alter of what he has created. I really should have made friends with the computer dudes on my dorm floor. I still have a fucking Atari 2600. Pitfall used to be state of the art. Wow. How far we've come. Find yourself some X-Com torrents, just play the PC versions, I assume they're the same as the PS. If not, :(
You can buy Apocalypse off Steam for about a tenner I think. Still holds up. Pretty sure it won't work on Vista however.

Phucking (hasta la) Vista... You can download free MS-Dos-emulator, such as DosBox (http://dosbox.com) "Yes, DOSBox works in both Vista 32 bit and Vista 64 bit", after instal and setup you must run this games in emulator. All commands typing by own hands (see "Read me" or study the "Basic" (not VisualBasicApplication))
Win2000 still had ms-dos inside, later Windows - not
Golden Axe.

No. There is nothing wrong with it. The quality of a game is not removed just because the graphics are lesser than what we have today.

Someone from school gave me an emulator with a bunch of roms on it. I have a controller and I can't tell the difference in game play at all. Was cheaper then trying to replace the SNES and games that got lost. Yes I have all the Super Marios and Super Star Wars games too. I am like a kid in the candy store when I start it up. The whole folder is only like 700mb so it doesn't put a dent in the memory.
