Question about Dragon Con

I just found out I live about 300 miles from it. I'm trying to play a trip there for next year. I find myself daydreaming about this lovely formal dress in the back of my closet.

I was wondering if they have any formal wear occasions where there might be dancing? I know some cons have them but I know so very little about this one and no one else seems to know.

We stayed at the Hilton. It's a host hotel but it's on the periphery and we loved it.

I will try not to be a drunken mess for the event as socially I'm trying to see as much of you guys as possible as well as the event itself. I'm booking going to call now and book a room for 2 double beds. will be something around 439USD (or 459 with breakfast). thats what I see online but, I'm going to call (and probably check online for some deals). I have no problem with that. will figure out the way to split but, I'm willing to be 300 on the deal regardless of who shacks up with me. I'm going to book for the 2nd (i'll most likely arrive the evening of the 2nd). but may be leaving on the 6th (so my checkout will be on that day). I'm sure anyone who is staying for the 6th and leaving on the 7th can do a continuance on the room (my guess is no one is going to be camping out in front of the room).

I would imagine that this happens all the time. If hotels act like theaters, and in this case I imagine they would, they keep a few seats...uh, I mean ROOMS held for safe keeping. You never know when say a Hilton will breeze into town and want a room. So as the dates get near and they have some idea of how many extras they have, they release the rooms into the wild to learn to hunt and find new mates. Or something.

I've been looking at some web pages about D*Con convention.

I'm both excited and scared.

I'm pretty much, as my hero Walter S. would say, "You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know...."

I will have no frame of reference other than my childhood and all that I've gleened from FRED.

I'll have to wait until the evening's conventioning when folks proceed to the bars in their costumes. Alcohol; the great leveller. nobody knows your asking them stupid questions when their hammered like: "Season 8 of Buffy? What?", "Hey, how many green lanterns were there?", "How do you pee in that thing? Need help?"
