I have a mighty long list but I'll pick out the top 5.
"The Ring"
"The Sweetest Thing"
"Secrets of the YA-YA-Sisterhood"
"Batman and Robin"
"The Amityville Horror"
I feel a weight has been lifted off my chest. What are your thoughts?

I think I have to disagree with you on The Ring and Amityville Horror. However, there is one popular movie out there right now, which is the suckiest movie ever made. The HULK.

ring sucked but the original was actually quite good, they didn't ruin it by showing a stupid laughable blue face at the end.
Fast and the furious: I hate this so much
2 fast 2 furious: I havent seen this but I've heard its worse than the first so excuse me.
Dude wheres my car. more watchable than fast and the furious if only just.
Evolution: I think I am the only person that didn't like it, but where was the wit and humour and most importantly, action. Ghostbusters 1 & 2 are far greater.
Mars attacks, it was watchable and likeable but I dispised it after 2 viewings.

must u get all title-technical on me, u know what I meant. besides over here the japanese film "ringu" was released as "the ring" with "the ring 2" and "ring 0" as its repsective srequal and prequals. So I was not being Inacurrate.

So, of the 3, which one was the original?
Omaru
07-24-2003, 09:47 PM
That depends on what u mean by "original" in terms of release it was "The Ring" which came out in 1998, plotwise would be the most recent Ring 0 which came out in 2000 but the events took place before those of The Ring.

I thought she was being clever also. As for the local pronouciation, it tends to have a hard 'k' sound. For example: "In ChicK-a-go, we dance around in da barse and drink beerse alot ya know." Most of us do not speak that way, and have the flat Midwestern dialect, but there are some.

I just did. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
And no, I did not hate the ending specifically. I just hated the whole movie. I understood the point of the movie (anyone who has taken a LOGY class and paid any attention would) but I thought it was presented in a very fanboy'ish kind of way that makes mindless drones worship its content.
My overall view of the movie can be found in many threads on this board so I won't dive into that again. However, Reloaded digs deeper into Sociology, specifically the idea of control and causation (they refer to it as "causality") which I find to be very interesting.
Those who loved the first one but did not like the second prove my reasoning for hating the first and liking the second. People just live on the surface of most things... they do not like digging into them. That is why the slomo's hated The Hulk; too much story and not enough action. People would rather not think too much when they see an "action" movie, and when they do they demand that the movie was bad or stupid or boring (or with respect to the new Star Wars movies, being directed by a man hell bent on destroying their childhood).

DangerSeeker
07-31-2003, 03:38 PM
Popular and publicized are different. OJ Simpson was not popular for (potentially) murdering his wife, but it was well publicized. Dumb & Dumberer cost $19 mil to make, $20 mil to advertise, and pulled in only $25. It also got more bad reviews than good. I know it has it's fans, but when somebody has to defend themselves for liking a movie, usually that means it is not popular.

You have a very broad definition of story. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that's what the Hulk had. I'd try and find out exactly what it had, but it makes me retch, and that clouds my judgment.
As for story, the Godfather I & II had story; Pulp Fiction had story. In fact, Ang Lee should have called up Tarantino and asked if he could borrow some story, as the Fiction had more than enough to go around.
As for the Matrix, loved it. The second one, not as much, but still a good film. It had as much story as was required, no more, no less. Arguably, it was a repackaged Terminator, but that's not such a bad thing, and it was very nicely done. It would have been just fine as stand-alone film. True, the second digs deeper, takes you in directions you didn't think possible, and maybe that was the point: the first invites you in, sets the tone, while the second, now that they have your attention, takes you deeper. It's unfair to criticize the first the way you are, for not being deep or thought provoking; that wasn't the point. You want that, go watch 2001.
Oh, and it wasn't just the story (or lack thereof) in the Hulk that pissed me off; it was the Hulk himself. If you're going to give us a two and a half hour movie like this, at least give us something more than a Shrek knock-off for visual fx.

Oh God, tell me about it. Top Gun sucks ass. I get so tired of movies that can't get their aircraft right (i.e. using a T-38/F-5 as a Russian Mig). I also didn't care for the characters or the actors they got to play them. The story line was cheesy and the way they portrayed pilots was cheesy. Let's not even go into the way they portrayed base security in the movie or lack there of (A pilot driving his motorcycle on the flightline?). Get real.

I remember two Navy recruiters coming to my highschool and using Top Gun as a recruitment tool (they had it playing on a TV next to them). I walked up to them and said "man that movie is fake." They argued with me that it was very realistic except for the part where the cat doesn't work and they can't launch (they have more than one).
So I asked them "so the hard deck is 10,000 feet yet most of those shots seem show the aircrafts below 2,000 and lower. Mavrick can't eject because he can't reach the ejection handles... isn't there a backup ejection 'handle' inside the F-14 near the seat? Plus, enemy aircrafts are allowed to get within 200 miles of the fleet? Also, why is the carrier cruising alone? Where is the battle group?"
They did not like those question.

One of the few movies/TV shows that I have seen that most resembles they things are in the military is Stargate SG-1. Their uniforms are very close, the way they use the rank structure is accurate, and their respect of the fact that in the military, subordinates can not have personal relationships with their superiors. They also do a great job in showing how politics plays a great part in military decisions.

I thought Old School was a steaming pile of crap too.
And people aren't going to like this, but I thought 8 Mile was pretty weak. It was just a Rocky remake and Eminem happens to be the flavor of the moment. Besides, the Academy Award song, which was barely in the movie (over the ending credits) seemed like a forced nod to recognize the growing market for hip-hop.
