Ok, well maybe not, but I was thinking about movies that affected me growing up. My mom took me to see Poltergeist when I was a little over 4 and I immediately got rid of all my stuffed animals [I know it was a puppet in the movie, but still] and I didn't climb trees for years. Then a couple years later, I got to see Revenge of the Nerds and I spent the next week on the playground explaining what happened when Booger said "I want bush!" Flash forward -- I'm a perv who is afraid of red jello, roast beef and dolls.

Has anything like this happened to any of you?

ET definitely stopped a lot of people from hiding their emotions after seeing that movie if I have to cry I do it. And the only times I have since were Homeward Bound's happy ending and the final episode of Home Improvement.

In terms of current/younger filmmaker's, I believe Star Wars is one of the greatest influences. I also think John Hughes movies also had a big impact.

For me, I have too many influences to even begin a list.

any bruce lee film. all few there are, basically paving the way for many a future fight scene, and some terrible films where the hero cant be touched (steven seagal perhaps) but bruce patically used a mix of five different martial arts. After seeing his films I badly wanted to kick ass which I never did learn, but I got to be pretty adept with nunchukas.

Swingers, baby, Swingers!

Every guy must see Swingers once in his life. It will change you! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif Not sure how, but it does.

Of course, I must mention Pulp Fiction, or the Fiction, if your cool/geeky. Changed movies forever. Another movie that you must see once, whether you like it or hate it! A truly defining movie for all time.

Star Wars... I can't think of any other movie(s) that had a greater impact on me as a kid.

Ghostbusters fostered a lifelong interest in the paranormal. I has two separate projects I'm working on involving ghosts, and can't deny the source.

Back to the Future sparked reverence for yesteryear, as well as the science and theory of time travel.

I think Sleeper by Woody Allen shaped the future more than any other movie. It did have a handicapped person ruling the world afterall. Oh yeah, and they used machines to reach orgasm. I am sure there are a lot of women out there who appreciate the fact that Woody popularized artificial stimulation.

Hey - if we could get the things to also mow our lawn, why get married? Kidding, kidding.

Movies that shaped the future? Top Gun brought a whole new level of schlock to action movies. Terminator 2 upped the ante for graphic effects. Toy Story changed animation and reminded adults that cartoons can be very, very cool. Moulin Rouge reintroduced the musical. There are tons, but those pop up first into my mind.
