American words/phrases: Please explain what they mean!

Countless films, SMods, Family Guy etc..... what does "douche bag" actually mean?

Also, not sure of the spelling, but Kevin Smith refers to certain things as sounding "goshe", from the context, does it mean up your own ass, pompous etc?

I'm sure there will be more to come, I'll think of some and get back to you lovely folk.

gauche is actually french for "left". It came to have that meaning in English 'cause when you do something with your left hand, it's clumsy. Well, for some people anyway. As for as how it's used though, JK nailed it, I just wanted to be pedantic about it.

I had the same problem with the phrase douche bag when I first came on here. I googled it, as google knows everything, and found some educational blurbs and pics. Worth a look!
