I'm in the early planning stages of a motorcycle trip through my home state.
Jen's mother is having surgery sometime in the near future and we're going for a week. I'll leave Jen with my truck at her mom's and I'll head out on Eileen.
By-tor: this time, nothing will stop me from heading through your neck of the woods. It'll only be for a night, but I'll be there. \m/:D
A complete itinerary to follow soon.

NICE!! I've actually got some plans slapped together to build a chopper from the ground up. I would have done it when I lived in Arizona, but I had a future ex-wife that wouldn't let me. That was many moon and several summers ago though (a little Indian lingo there).
I'm lucky that my fiancee is an understanding girl who lets me loose on projects like this. Here's a link to a side by side/before an after. (http://quickstopentertainment.com/forums/showpost.php?p=234896&postcount=2197)

JK,
Every winter I have a group of people that go somewhere warm and ride to escape the cold. The first few years we went different places in Arizona: Tombstone, Bisbee, Jerome, Lake Havasu, ect. Last year the trip was to S. Cal along the coast on Hwy 1. Are there any scenic winter routes to ride in Texas? If there are I would love to ride there and possibly meet up with you sir.
I like riding through the Hill Country, northwest of San Antonio. I grew up in that area, spent a lot of time hunting those parts. I've got some picts from my ride last year up on my flickr page...

I really wanted to take the bike to El Paso in a U-Haul and ride back to Orange, through the Big Bend area, the Hill Country, drop down to the coast (the Blue Water Highway is nice...) but that's a bit more than I can do this year.
And now I'm not sure when I'm going to go this year. Jen's mother has decided to put off her surgery until this winter, maybe even until January. And Jen is being elusive about our wedding (supposed to be this winter)
I may go the last week of October...
But yeah, if we could hook up, that would be cool

Pics look awesome. Oct is a great month to ride, but it's no good for me to ride as we will be in the field harvesting (yes I farm too). I will probably have 1 or 2 other people riding with me when I come down, riding is a family thing with us.
I put about 300 miles on my bike Sunday just cruising the small towns of Iowa.....I needed the ride time bad. BBQ, beer, bourbon, and Bikes.....ah. :D
I think Jen has decided we're going to Texas together the last week of October... It's the 35th year for the Texas RenFest and my old man will be 59 that week. But, with her, I can never really make any solid plans lately.

The Ren Fest looks pretty fun. I went to the one south of Apache Junction when I lived out in Arizona......had a blast. I got my crystal sticks and a bitchin' belt with a skull buckle when I went there.
As far as when or if you end up going......just let me know and I'll see what I can do. Ren Fest would be cool to go to even if I wouldn't be able to make it down on my bike.
I just built a luggage rack yesterday- slides into the frame behind the seat, pretty neat- pictures later. But I still don't know when I'll be able to take that trip. Jen's dragging her feet as far as planning anything...
On another note, I've really been wracking my brain, trying to come up with a way I could move back to Texas. The cost of living is a bit lower than where I am now, but finding a job making a comparable wage might be hard. And finding something that I actually want to do, might be a trick in itself. I dunno, just damn tired of being so far away from family...

Would you consider working with bikes in a garage or something?
Yes I would. But not having any formal training in that field makes it hard to get an interview.

Ride in on your bike, say "I made this" (then "sit Ubu sit, good dog") and that would get you a foot in the door I reckon.

I have had a couple of people ask me about building the same fender I made for my bike for their Savages... but that would only be some sort of supplemental income.
I'm considering something with photography, but I'll be damned if I start doing school photos or weddings (again). I'd rather stick Mr Happy in a weed whacker.

Haha, nice. I'd comment further, but every one in Pennsylvania is Amish and my computer use is a sin. Now I'm off to the airport:

The bike is down right now... waiting for a new ignition coil to arrive in the mail. Also ordered some new rear brake shoes... figured it was time since the squealing is becoming rather embarrassing.
I put in for a week in October, but I think that's going to be a J&J expedition for my old man's 59th birthday and the 35th anniversary of the RenFest and maybe... just maybe... possibly... a wedding of sorts ;)

The new brake shoes will be here Monday. And somebody's parting out a '95 on eBay. All auctions start at 99¢ with no reserve, ending on Thursday. Glad I have a not-so-popular bike at times

You ever consider starting a bike from scratch? Sounds like (and looks like) something you'd be pretty good at. Could even turn out to be a little bit of a money maker.
I've thought about it, but my welding skills are fairly limited- I'm more of a brazer and cutter- if you need lugs attached to a transformer, I'm your man. I've toyed with the idea of just doing bob jobs, though...

Hell of a place to start.........I'd give it a try with one bike and see how it works out for ya. Even if it's something you just break even on you can at least expand your bragging rights to include you built a bike from the ground up.

I put in for a week in October,
Let me know. I'll be in TN the beginning of August, El Paso all of September, and back to TN after then. A good night in Nashville or Memphis could be fun. ;)
