Hey, does anyone on the boards have musical talent? (Besides By-tor and Phitzy (Uke) and Aaron (Rock piano):p). I favour the drums personally. And if you could get a music lesson from anyone you liked who would you choose?
I play guitar, saxophone, bass, and half-assed drums...
Would love to learn the banjo, you know, to further my racist, redneck profile...;)

Wow impressive and I have to admit my drumming is half assed aswell considering I don't have a kit just now. But one can always dream http://www.gretschdrums.com/Gretsch2008_Post_eBook/index.html#/24/

Why didn't I know this existed!
So first off is the bagpipes. Played them for near on 12 years now. Very stereotypical to be Scottish and play them...but we don't all do it. Just some of us.
I'm in a band, this is us competing at the World championships last year:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j9pBvikz2I&feature=PlayList&p=A00A4C6DC6612DDB&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=5
Also played drum kit in a couple of bands...one of which featured in some wee podcast no one has ever heard of ;)
Can dabble on bass and guitar but would never claim to be decent on either.

I played clarinet awhile ago. Right now I mostly play guitar. An Eastwood Hi Flyer and a messed up Squire Strat I use for alternate tunings and prepared guitar. Both left-handed. I want to customize a lefty mustang at some point and find a lefty Bass VI somewhere (a bass with a trem??? yes).

Guitars seem to abound here, but I'm no different. I taught myself the acoustic guitar to learn fingerstyle pieces. If you don't know fingerstyle, and you like solo guitar instrumental new-agey stuff, I guess, check out Michael Hedges. There are some videos on youtube. The man was a god.
From there I branched off onto the electric. Both very fun. Played in a ska band for a bit, oddly enough.

I love Michael Hedges. I got to meet him, briefly, after a show in the late '80s. It still bums me out that he died so young. I used to know how to play "Layover" and my own bastardized adaptation of "Because It's There" (one of his harp-guitar pieces).

That is awesome. I unfortunately did not even get into his music until long after he died. It was a tragedy. I learned how to play tons of his stuff (not anywhere near perfectly, obviously) including Ragamuffin, Bensusan, and Aerial Boundaries. Glad there's another Hedges fan here :)

They can be. Don't buy it unless you get to play it first. If you want the sound that a good Hofner has, you need to make sure the hollow body resonates well and the pick-ups aren't so cheap that you lose the sustain. In fact, I would never buy an instrument without playing it first.
Except maybe a harmonica.:D

i can play a smidgen of something on a lot of instruments, which makes me kind of music retarded.
i play (like actually play) the bass, cello, bass guitar.
I can play a couple of tunes on the guitar and i can play "thunder road" on the piano.

I own an Epiphone SG, a Fender Jazzmaster, and an assortment of cheapo but alright instruments. Between them and my comics it's a wonder I can fit my bed in my house. I've played in a variety of bands but nothing ever really took off because of various carry on's.
I'd love Tom Morello and Jimmy Page to teach me some shit on guitar, and Flea to help me improve on bass.

I play the fool, I play the percentages, I play the hand I'm dealt. I play hard and I work. I play on words. See Emily play? Hate the game, not the playa. Play it, Sam. This post is played out.

I pound around on my drum kit in the spare room.
I got my son beating on them and keeping a simple beat when he was 4, so he will be better than me in no time
I can also make up goofy songs on a quart guitar with plastic like strings. They sound best if the guitar is a lot out of tune
Been teaching my self a bit of the old harmonica, but the lady hates it so I gotta practice in the car alone.

Might actually have been the usual Famous Last Words, by the way, but we'll see.
Weird, in Italy where I come from you find the same attitude with (electric) guitars - every arsehole has one, including my cousin who never bothered to learn to play but is rich enough to afford a Stratocaster and therefore used to play in a band. Until they started playing before an audience and everybody realised he was really shite.
