So, for the six months or so I have been planning on bursting into the podcasting world. After many starts and stops, I am finally able to say:
"Hey everybody, here is my podcast, I hope you enjoy!"
It is a first episode, so it is a little rough, but I hope to shape them up pretty soon. So without further adieu.....
Mars Needs Podcasts
Our worst, I mean First episode. • April 22nd, 2009
J.J. and the first of his amazing friends, David discuss how it all started for them. The conversation drifts into the reading of a play that you have already missed, a plea to help our furry friends, and spoilers on a Nicole Kidman horror movie from eight years ago. (consider that your spoiler alert)
click the awesome image from my buddy Jason, to find your way.

Nah, wait till anyone hears it, there is nothing shiny about it.:D
More than a little rough, and I gotta get better at the recording aspect, but I figure if I fixate too much on making it what I want, I'll never put them out.
By the way, a very sincere thank you to Zac for his help.

Good stuff....never knew you were a theater guy. I used to do the improv comedy/theater stuff myself here in MD, and still do the occasional show here and there. Been acting for about 24 years actually...
Liked the 'cast. Fun stuff.

Sex, drugs and purple socks. Which one would Donny Osmond pick?
Pretty fuckin' cool, man! Even the caffeinated A.A. bikers didn't hurt.
Let David know my argument for beer & doughnuts. Glazed doughnuts are a fried food and all fried food goes well with beer.
Beer, being carbonated, bitter and alchohol helps cut the super-sweet taste and through that slick, greasy, nauseating feeling you get from eating a dozen (or so).
And thanks for name the drop!:D

It might have more to do with the iTunes logo size requirements than it does with Podbean. The image size vectors of the file that was uploaded to Podbean and designated as the iTunes logo might be incompatible with what they accept.

Wow, that's amazing. If you come up, let me know. I hope it is on the one weekend a month we tend to have a show.

I will make sure that there is a show when I am coming up. I just found out for sure that my daughter's graduation is during the week and not on that weekend.
I for one am no expert since I only listen to a few podcasts but for a first attempt it went well. After listening to the third one I can hear lots of improvement already. Plus you didn't want to start off with perfection cuz that would be hard to beat each week.

Thanks, I appreciate the support. I felt like this one lagged a bit by the end, but was still probably better than the first. For some reason David and I were all worked up about how to fill the time and try to be amusing.

I finally got to listen to the first episode. GOD! It sucks to have to listen to two faggy actors talk about their 'work'! ;)
I look forward to listening to more.
Just listened to 2.5 and 3 back to back.
Hee! Hee! Hee!
I chortled several times. (listening at the office)
You guys are definitely fast on your feet with the improv conversation.
Thanks for the great cast!
Hey, I wonder if Dave is allergic to alcohol? I have a buddy over here in Hong Kong who got some sort of virus and then, blam, could no longer drink. Made him ill like an allergic reaction. And he's Swiss. Taking the bottle away from a Swiss person is like taking the bottle away from a German.
Speaking of bottle, so Phitzy and Aaron finally hit the bottles? How'd they sound? I didn't think they would be able to stomach half the stuff I sent.
Good ending tune!
Keep'em coming, they're appreciated!

I am making an effort to tone the faggy actor thing down a touch. It is a part of who I am, but it is only a part. I don't want to be redundant. It always seems to come up a bit, however, because that is how we spend out evenings.:D

When I talked to Aaron and Brian they were a few sheets to the wind, but I have to say, when Brian and I started talking cartoons, he was one of the most focused drunks I have ever seen. The man has talent.
I think David might be a touch allergic, that might be why he hates the taste, in that way he is quite lucky.

I love Red Foxx, his comedy records are fantastic. I just have always felt that Sanford and Son didn't really let us see the man. It was watered down Red. So I always thought you could see him strain to try to get the funny out of his less-than-what-he-deserved writing.
It would be like seeing Pryor in a sitcom. Or that odd episode like special Carlin did once. Great men, sub par matching for the format.

J.J. returns with his amazing friends David and Tiffany for a "typical Friday night." They intend to discuss Star Trek, but get distracted by something shiny. (Chekov is soooooooo dreamy) Some spoilers remain-You were warned. Discuss what it means to be an American, thanks to a promt from a European. Then they finally play "New Choice" an improv game. Ending music provided by A Bullet Well Spent-which J.J. messes up the intro and forgets to tell you to find them on MySpace music, CDbaby.com and coming soon to iTunes.

Episode 6-Teh Internet is Awesome
JJ and his amazing friend Tiffany welcome Tom “The Punk Rock Mathematician” to the podcast.(David is away playing with dogs on the beach.) They continue the ongoing conversation between Tom and JJ on the role of Next-Gen media in Improv. Tiffany then tells a tale of real life cyborgs, before the gang just try to make the world a more playful place. Doesn’t that sound pleasant?

okay just listened to 6+7 yesterday. I have to dissagree on two things. 69 is awesome, and a wet fish is not some one who doesn't talk whilst fucking. Its some one who just lays there and does nothing. I prefer a woman not to talk, espcially talk "dirty" during or before sex. It usually just seems so fake to me, and that just kills everything. Then again I haven't dated and actresses either, so maybe they can sell it better.

I think we agree here. I think we were saying "SOUNDS" were good "TALKING" not always so good. Hence the whole "Gettysburg Address" comment. I don't think talent has anything to do with selling sex talk. Hopefully no one is taking time to focus the time and energy it would take to have a working sexual monologue.

No. That's a dead fish. i.e. "She just lays there and stinks."
A wet fish would flop around a bit and seem to be enjoying it...but not make any sound...because, aside from a burping or maybe a growling sound, (muskie and pike for example), fish don't vocalize. Get it now?

That's a dead fish. i.e. "She just lays there and stinks."
A wet fish would flop around a bit and seem to be enjoying it...but not make any sound...because, aside from a burping or maybe a growling sound, (muskie and pike for example), fish don't vocalize. Get it now?

I honestly don't remember talking about baby rape. Wow. I should never record when that sick. I was burning with fever and wanted to die. So, I might actually have to listen to remember what was said.
I do remember the title. It is my goal to keep the podcast positive. So I was thinking that we would talk about our podcast friends, and it got dragged to hell. Maybe we can keep it positive next time....:D

I also do not remember the baby rape comments. But while JJ can use the excuse he was sick, I'm going to go with the excuse that I was given some very bad news just before we started recording, so my state of mind was slightly negative. :(
On a happy note, I think the three of us got it all out of our system! In fact, next week we'll be discussing rainbows, unicorns, sunshine, smurfs, and the mysterious sexual position: 169...how does it work? is it even legal?...so many questions to be answered.

Here is my favorite monolog from the play 'Spoon River Anthology'
Fiddler Jones
HE earth keeps some vibration going
There in your heart, and that is you.
And if the people find you can fiddle,
Why, fiddle you must, for all your life.
What do you see, a harvest of clover?
Or a meadow to walk through to the river?
The wind's in the corn; you rub your hands
For beeves hereafter ready for market;
Or else you hear the rustle of skirts
Like the girls when dancing at Little Grove.
To Cooney Potter a pillar of dust
Or whirling leaves meant ruinous drouth;
They looked to me like Red-Head Sammy
Stepping it off, to "Toor-a-Loor."
How could I till my forty acres
Not to speak of getting more,
With a medley of horns, bassoons and piccolos
Stirred in my brain by crows and robins
And the creak of a wind-mill--only these?
And I never started to plow in my life
That some one did not stop in the road
And take me away to a dance or picnic.
I ended up with forty acres;
I ended up with a broken fiddle--
And a broken laugh, and a thousand memories,
And not a single regret.

Tiffany said that she watches redtube and she also said she had her dick in the salsa, pinko de gayo (sp?) if I remember correctly. Is she really a chick or just a hot sounding dude......this is kind of bothering me a little. ;)
Seriously though, I love the chemistry that you have with your co-hosts and you've managed to keep this non-theatre goer interested in your production work.......hell, you may have even inspired me to take Molly to a play at one of the small theatre houses in Omaha.

Great show guys.
So I was thinking about your friend that corrected the pronunciation of bukkake. I have to say that seems a little silly that he took exception to that but not "Hari Kari." I'd be curious to know how he defends himself on that one. :p
Oh and I had a thought about the conversation regarding choking smurfs. My question is, do they need to breath at all? I don't remember the show as clear but did they ever swim or anything that would have shown that they had a respiratory system? In fairness I would think since Gargamel created Smurfette, they must reproduce asexually. Based on that, I would think their entire physiology would be dissimilar to a humans.
And, yes, I put way too much thought into that.

Fuck you David, I was the bitch last time, it's your turn.
Actually, if you listen to the song, Lola has his/her way with the guy, so that makes the guy the bitch, not Lola.
And we're talking about one of my karaoke songs, JJ...it's pretty much sacred.
Plus, it's another song that if you think about it the woman gets her way, making the man the true "bitch" of the song.

Lola? That's not one of my karaoke songs...I think my lack of hitting the right notes and not always keeping tempo should be proof of that.
Also, I just got home from work at The Alibi where I saw somebody break down sobbing in the middle of singing The Way You Make Me Feel. Just all tears and blubbering...I wasn't sure what to do.

That certainly made a change! Phit is absolutely right in saying If I listen I should be prepared to accept the tone/language of a cast. My recent comment about someone making a clean-cut cast came from noticing no one here really did one like that (and wasn't targeted to any one Cast in particular.) I know which site this is, and the tone/style of humour it uses!
I think you said you weren't sure where abouts I was - the South Coast.
Also, do I get the money from the swear jar? :p
And Superman Returns is a lovely film. It was on tv a few days back. Singer did a great job. I didn't mind the Super baby plot at all. Added something new, which I would look forward to following more if the next film is a continuation instead of another reboot.

I address this a bit on the podbean account. I just have a filthy mouth. It is my curse...and my gift. But it is always nice to try to catch yourself before the profanity takes over.
You can have the dollar when you come claim it. :D
As for the SuperBaby! It just didn't feel...super to either
A: have sex with Lois and then fly off like it didn't mean anything.
B: have sex with Lois when you two were "married" in Superman 2, but then the super kiss leaves her with no memory of having sex with you and then has a kid with super powers.

Just finished the podcast. LOVED it!!! Even how sore I am from running beer and ice to the coolers and then opening the drinks (est. 5100 bottles) went through my hands between 730pm and 1015pm! I know that is a lot. I think that the stage that David is at is the most sweetist stage to be at in a relationship. Maybe it's 351am, but I just relized that your Logo type looks just like the Looney Toons Font. Huh, well great job on the banner AB! THumbs up and I do not know what time, but David did CLAP in the cast. Can you find the sound of the clap boys and girls????? Scott White Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Yes, yes, I did clap! Argh! I did one clap and then realized I did it, but you know, once you got clap...well, you know the rest of the saying.

This week, I caught up on all the episodes and I've really enjoyed them. :)
Listening to you guys talk about improv almost makes me want to try it.
I say almost because in college, I went with a friend when she auditioned for the school's improv group and there was a point where she had to mime 'waterbed'. I realize if that had been me, I wouldn't have had a clue on what to do and would have probably froze.
Have you guys or Tiffany ever blanked when trying to react to something on stage?

With improv, a lot of times when you are starting out the instructor will have you do a lot of mime exercises (such as "mime waterbed") and I've never been a huge fan of these 'games'. A very common one is "pretend you are bacon". Or, "everybody in the room is an animal that represents you as a person. Be that animal" Uh...I pick a human...humans are animals. Anyway, if you can get past those first few steps improv becomes a whole lot of fun! (and I know plenty of performers who LOVE these early exercises)
As for your question, have we ever blanked when trying to react to something on stage?
All the time! And it's usually a situation where later that night or the next day you think of the perfect thing you should have said or done. This happens a lot during guessing games when you are the person who has to guess, since you're trying to figure out whatever the hell you're supposed to figure out but also remain entertaining and funny.
You should go try some improv. Don't let "waterbed" scare you. It'll be over before you even know it! :D (does anybody else think this smiley face looks a little freaky, like that children's horror story about the girl who keeps encountering guys with bigger and bigger teeth...anybody?...also, this one  )
Thanks for listening!
