I'm starting a podcast and looking for advice. [Archive]

For budget mics a Zoom H2 is pretty hot shit. They're about $200, but if it's just going to sit on a desk and record a humans voice, it'll do ya pretty damn good. You can record on board with it, and just gank the SD card out when you're done recording, so that'd make the software side of things easier. I wouldn't stress about software, though. You're going to be compressing the MP3 down to like 64kb/s, so everything will get bottlenecked there. Use Audacity if you can get away with it.

Don't forget that the first 95% of your podcast is going to be interesting content, worry about that before you worry about the crap that makes up the last five percent, like professional quality microphones.

Amen. Make sure that you have that something "extra" to offer...i.e. a draw. Anybody can sit around and talk while some expensive equipment records them. Entertainment...that's the key...or so everyone keeps telling me.

I know I cannot hold my own against some of the drinkers in this crowd, so I will be happy to watch and report. Oh yes, the camera will be clicking away. Those who cannot attend deserve to know what went on. I know I wanted more detail last year.

If you and your friends are funny, then focus on them. I listen to quite a few podcasts, and let me tell you, the ones with an agenda are wretched. Most 'casts are for the most part two or three people talking, and if you enjoy the camaraderie between the group, you listen. I feel it is as simple as that. If you have an interest, it will naturally go there, but to say this week we will only talk about cheeses that are cultivated in the lower three miles of Bumfuck county Vermont. That is boring. Fun is infectious.

Believe me I have been doing A LOT of research in the last year.

That had very little to do with the podcast...and a lot to do with irresponsible alcohol use.

Chicks dig podcasters...comedians...musicians...anyone who performs really. That is why very ugly comedians will often leave a show with very attractive ladies...I should know.
