Well, it's been an exciting preliminary contest but the field has been narrowed to six outstanding choices.
Now you, the fans (and haters) get to decide which film Matt and Jesse will record their hilarious, insightful and very sexy commentary for.
The choices are as follows.
Jesse's Picks=They Live, Stand By Me, Monster Squad
Matt's Picks= Death to Smoochy, Nightmare Before Christmas, Deep Rising.
Help us help you!

I say pick Stand By Me and see if you can keep track of all the homoerotic undertones. If you have to drink every time something gay happens, you'll be drunk before they reach the rail road bridge.

I'm going with Stand By Me as it is one of the greatest films ever.

Indeed it is. But I don't own a copy, that's why I voted Stand By Me.:)

Matt tried to convince me that just as many people own Death to Smoochy as Stand By Me. I had to disagree. Surely, Stand By Me has more sales, right?

I'd agree with that. I don't have Death To Smoochy. Although I have seen a section of it on Sky Movies.

I'm no Stand by Me Fan, but I can guarantee that more copies of Stand By Me have been sold to date than Death to Smoochie.
Has Cohen ever even seen a movie?

I think he just puts Smoochy into different dvd cases to make believe every time.

I'll come clean, I liked Smoochy. I like a of movies though. Where Stand By Me might make my top 50 list, Smoochy wouldn't.
That being said, I don't own either of the movies. :)
I think it's safe to say that more people in the World own and are familliar with Stand By Me then Smoochy. Here are the numbers:
Stand By Me
Released August 8, 1986 (limited)
Production Budget $8,000,000
Rentals $22,050,000
Theatrical Performance
Total US Gross $52,287,414
Death to Smoochy

Unfortunately those numbers only imply what the result may be. They don't give a total for Smoochy's rentals and are they adjusted for inflation? Just playing devil's advocate.

Right, I really wanted the rentals and dvd sales figures but I didn't take the time to look for them.
If you adjust for inflation and look just at theatrical revenue, Stand By Me made about a bazillion dollars while Smoochy still doesn't take in what it cost to make.
Not that any of this REALLY matters. It is a good way to waste away the work day though.

Yes. Thanks a lot. Had you fine listeners actually voted Death to Smoochy for the win, you would have heard an hour and a half of Matt reciting dialogue and singing songs. I don't think I would have been able to stick around for the entire thing...

Now, we'll just have an hour and a half hearing him go on about it not winning. :D
