There really is only one answer to that question.

My brother gave me his well worn copy of Appetite a few years ago and that combined with Ozzy Osbourne"s Tribute is what go me into metal and music in general.

If I can only pick one, I'll go with the obvious. But if the option was for two, I'd pick the Use Your Illusions. Those two discs were fucking EPIC.

Why isn't Chinese Democracy on there?

I keed, I keed.

But seriously, why isn't it?

Appetite was the third cassette I ever bought on my own. I will never divulge the first. But the second was Shout at the Devil...

You guys are all too damn young to know what kind of "ground-breaking" album Appetite was. I remember my singer coming over to my house saying "You've got to hear this new band that just released this album." About a month before that, a buddie of mine came back from an Alice Cooper show, and said "I just saw a new band that opened for Cooper. They fuckin' kicked my ass!!!" We were covering half the songs on that album before any of us even knew what it was going to become.

In that case, I won't say where I was then, but it and Kill 'em All rocked my world.

I remember WHERE I WAS when I first heard of GNR. Ass hat. ;)
Sitting on the sidewalk in front of the Harkens' house on Bertch street, mamma jamma! Their oldest, Andrea, brought out the cassette and couldn't stop talking about it. The rest kids...is history.

I was hoping it was going to be "Sade."
To make you feel young again; I was a senior when you were a freshman.

And now for a confession........none of you are going to like. (no bytor, I am not sculpting a naked statue of you out of frozen beer that will be put in a Sorority house party in the middle of summer with no A/C, only to be "licked down" to the end - that's a work in progress.)

I...was not impressed with GNR when they came out. I know, I know; they are "Super Awesome" and you guys love them. I didn't like them because everyone loved them. Axle's voice was a little whiney and from seeing their posters, I heaped them in with Ratt and Poison a bit. LA Glam Rock/Metal guys full of themselves and just a little bit 'douchey.'

"Welcome to the Jungle" was overplayed to exhaustion. Even before Richard Cheese (http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr7EBuz-2xI) sang it lounge lizard, I did. Just to get something from that spent whore of a song. Somehow that song is also ment to be sung big band jazz style.

And, to this day my ears bleed at hearing anyone karaoke "Sweet Child of Mine". The song is unrepeatable; I have stood up in a room and yelled: "shut that shit off!" when "Sweet Child" has come on. Regardless of how many Mullet Headed Nascar fans were in the room. I hate it so much; to this day I would stomp on the song even if you tied it to the Pope's chest.

I'm sorry guys....I know this was a GNR love in and I basically just threw ape shit on the "Welcome Back" sign.

I'll go back to my shame corner now.

I was just thinking- most of the places I grew up in were 10 to 15 years behind pretty much every where else in the world, so when everyone else was living in 1986, I was stuck in about 1973. So I'm actually about 51...

In my mind, the logic works.
