the water stank
dead fish and semen
briny waves rolled over pilings
blackened stumps- dead teeth
rotten and barnacled
decaying into foam
swaying in the swells

Harbor side

dead rubbers and seamen
sun-blackened slaves rolled over the sidings
dying, into the brackish deep
decaying into foam
swaying in the swells
