Not bad. Not bad at all. Loved the obscure movie refs... and even the blockbuster movie talk. FYI: "The New Ghostbusters" a.k.a.: Extreme Ghostbusters was a Goth chick, a latino, a black dude, and a dude in a wheelchair. I used to watch it on SciFi each morning before classes. Also, you think Chucky's scary, ever see the Leprechaun? :D
Overall, this podcast was right up my alley. My podcast library is seriously growing effective this week. Keep it up. :)

Gentleman..
Chris Claremont redefined and saved the X-Men from oblivion.
Sure his writing was a little thought bubble-heavy but he resurrected the X-Men title (okay, Len Wein wrote Giant Sized..), gave us the Phoenix Saga, the Starjammers, Days of Futures Past, Madelyn Prior, Nimrod, the Mutant Massacre (which introduced us to Mr Sinister), the best of the three Fall of the Mutants story lines, the craziness in Australia... and then Jim Lee gave him the boot.
Point being Claremont created a great line of stories.
But I'll forgive you due to the bong hits with the Moore bros.

I grew up on the cartoon, but sadly most if not all of the b + w Eastman/Laird stuff was before my time. I had a few issues somehow, when I was a kid. Probably bought mistakenly for the Archie (which turned into Harvey I believe) series I used to read every issue of.

for what it's worth guys:
fingerprints are admissible in court, and are still used, along with DNA to look for suspects, if your fingerprints are not in the system, and you committed a crime where they were able to pull your fingerprints and/or DNA from the scene, but you became a suspect through another line of investigation, like witnesses, or being caught on camera, they could pretty easily obtain a warrant to get your fingerprints and DNA, also, if you ever get arrested in the future, it would be theoretically possible for them to link you to an earlier crime, I say theoretically because not all law enforcement agencies work together, or access the same databases
and on a lighter note, I'd like to hear Jesse's impression of Rodney Dangerfield

Gotta say Matt, I am a HUUUUGE Disney Afternoon fag. I grew up with them, but I really didn't get into them until recently. I ran out and bought the DVDs of Gummi Bears, Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Gargoyles, and TaleSpin. I don't know why but I love these cartoons so damn much.
Oh, and a buit of trivia for you, Uncle Scrooge long pre-dated Ducktales. And the Disney Christmas Carol. He first appeared in 1952. In the Donald Duck story "Christmas on Bear Mountain".

I wasn't a huge fan of "Body of Lies." It was okay, but it was kind of Ridley-lite. It was just everybody's view on social topics turned into a not too thrilling thrillr. Some good scenes here and there and Crowe was great, but overall - just average.
About reading scripts, it completely depends on you. Of course, a lot would be spoiled, but we kind of hit on all this in the podcast.

Actually, I've been finding it tougher and tougher to spend my Tales of Adventure in recent months. Sure, some people will still take them but the majority of folks are just too economically unsure, and would much prefer Parables of Mystery, or most commonly, Yarns of Fun (In tough times, fun sells). And you've got me, with a veritable warehouse full of these damn Tales of Adventure and nothing to do with them. I may just buy a house in the Dominican Republic and live like a king.

Oh yeah, Matt. Forget what I said about the Last Dragon. A great movie for you to watch is a great little indie, direct-to-DVD gem called Comic Book the Movie.
It was directed by Mark "Joker Skywalker" Hamill. It's about a school teacher and comic fan named Don Swan who get's drafted by this studio to lend cred to this movie they're making about a fictional superhero called Commander Courage, cause he's recognized as the leading expert on the character.
But the thing is, they're altering and revamping the character from a noble hero to a brooding super soldier anti hero, so Don's on his own mission to try to get enough support from fans to try to get the movie changed.
It's so great. It was made back in 2002, and was shot at the San Diego Comic Con. Don directed and stared in it, and he's excellent. The cast is 99% cartoon voice actors(guys like Billy West and Jess Harnell) and they are incredible in their roles. What's great is that it basically echoes every fan's fears when one of their favorite characters are taken by a movie studio and changed not to their liking. Don is us, the fanboys.
It's got cameos by Kevin Smith, Stan Lee, Bruce Campbell, Lloyd Kaufman, Peter David, and like hundreds more.
It's an awesome movie, check it out dude.

I liked King Kong, though I felt that side story with Jimmy and the Black Dude was completely unnecessary. I saw it with my dad and all the while he was just going, "Where's the Monkey".
I love the Dawn of the Dead remake even more than the original. It was definitely scarier, and I felt more fun as well.
Though I haven't seen it yet, I hear the first Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake is really good.
I don't know how well the Last Dragon remake will do. The Last Dragon was perfect 80's camp. I don't know if you could pull off a modern version.

Compared to most of the films that have been remade or have been considered, Bill and Ted are small potatoes. Essentially, Bill and Ted is a cult film, the kind that most remakes derive from. If they want to remake Evil Dead, Rocky Horror and Last Dragon, Bill and Ted would fit right in. I'm not saying it needs to be updated or even that it would be good, but if given to the right cast and crew, I think it would be interesting.

After watching the original Dawn Of The Dead again, at a recent horror film festival in my local cinema, I felt like a red-headed stepchild when I dared remark that I preferred the remake. There's just far too much human stupidity in the original for it be anything but a frustrating viewing experience as far as I'm concerned.

Man. I love the original. Yes it's slow. Yes it's heavy with character development. Yes it's mired with 70's clothes and hair. But it's also a social commentary on human nature which to me is scarier than the zombies themselves.
I will admit that Zak Snider's Dawn is more exciting, has cool title sequence, a neat sequence of "The Sickness" and a great handicam ending credit sequence.

I'll agree that the story of Hellboy 2 is probably just average. And I'm not saying that it would be in the top five of the year (or half-year) of great films, but it is one of my favorites. It looked incredible. It reminded me of youth and it was extremely fun.

Just saw it. And I agree. I thought it was a fun movie. Not something that would be in my top 5 of the year, but still fun. Plus it was funny, I agree with you Jesse, the drunken Abe and Hellboy scene was my favorite.
I'd give it a solid 7.5 out of 10. No, if only we could get a TMNT film like this.
On that note, I would really love to see Guillermo do a Gutwallow the Gingerbread Man movie, for all of you who have no idea who that is, it's a very-indie comic by TMNT-artist Dan Berger that's about, you guessed it, a Gingerbread Man. But it's got that same fantasy style that Guillermo is akin to.

I don't think we'll ever see a "real" TMNT flick. I never really read the comics, but I would love to see an actual ninja-type story done with the characters, but they're considered children's characters, so we'll never see it.
BallsMonkey

Well, in the comics the Turtles stories are more based in sci-fi and fantasy, so a lot of what's been done with the TMNT is pretty close to the source. That's why I'd think Guillermo would do a great job with the property.
Still, if you want to see a great ninja-type story done with them, hunt down the City at War arc. I wish they'd hurry up and start releasing the first volume issues into trades.

The first film was pretty close to source material. They still made it a little more kid friendly, by designating the Turtles by different colors, but the core story was almost the first story arc.

I just listened to the last B&B, and I noticed one thing that slipped by me before.
You said Hayo Miyazaki is the greatets animator since Walt Disney. Let me just tell you, that that's an insult to Miyazaki. Disney didn't animate shit, he was a hack. Ub Iwerks was the real talent, IMHO, he's the REAL creator of Mickey Mouse.

Being probably your only black listener(ones that reads comics, enjoys Watermelon, and listens to some rap, mainly mc chris though, all at the same time), I should probably weigh in on this...
I pretty much agree with you guys, I don't know why anyone would want to use the word. Where I live and where I go to school I'm surrounded by it, and I just feel uncomfortable when anyone says it.
And I also don't get that weird double standard, if you're refered to by "Nigga" by your boys all the time, you shouldn't suddenly be offended if your called that by a non-black guy. You've already embraced the word, so why are you suddenly so uptight about it. It just goes to prove that there's no way to take it back.
I never use the word, unless I'm making a joke about it or something, I really don't believe anyone should use it, because it's always going to be offensive, you can't change history.
Also don't worry, Jesse's rampaging racism hasn't chased me away from the podcast ;)

The comments about watermelon, fried chicken, black people being more athletic, etc are hilarious, but are inherently stereotypical and in some cases racist. Now, racism is one of the most complex words in existence and is very pejorative, maybe even more so than it should be.
The definition I'm rolling with is "Racism, by its simplest definition, is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race."
Just listened to the end of the cast, totally making me feel bad now.

I disagree with the first half and completely agree with the second half. This is a point I tried to make to Matt. Some things are stereotypes because they true. If you try to use those stereotypes against a particular race, that's when it becomes a problem to me.

This makes me think of the cartoon Coal Black and the Sebben Dwarfs. This is an amazing cartoon, yet it's banned. There's nothing racist about the cartoon, but I guess people took offense because of the way the black characters were designed. I don't see it as racist, I see it as honest and observant. They way they looked and the way they talked was just reflective of the time, still is to some degree, I don't get what the stink is about. The cartoon was a celebration of black culture, not a mockery of it.
Also, Speedy Gonzales, why is it that we can't watch his cartoons anymore? He wasn't racist, never did he do anything that would suppress Mexican people, he just ran around really fast and hit on women. Every dude does that. Why is Speedy so taboo.
