Probably because I'm English, but I find this thread quite disturbing.

The nearest thing I have in my house which comes close to a gun is this:

Well, you know what they say: "One is for fighting, one is for fun." What I mean is By-tor kills people with his pecker......

Mark, as a first time shooter, you are probably getting a gun boner (hence the post). Just don't turn into one of those guys we all look at first on the shooting range when "all clear" is called.

I no longer have any rifles or pistols. I gave them all to my brother when I left the states. Most of Asia (excluding the Philippines) are very strict on firearms ownership. In Hong Kong, owning a firearm of any kind, must be locked at a shooting club and never leave the facility. (membership to a shooting club, 15,000USD a year) I do however, occassionally go across the border to Shenzhen where I can visit a shooting range and keep practicing. One of our customers, Song Kewei Optical, makes scopes and got us access to the shooting range under their membership. Almost all the weapons on site are 9mm and 7.62mm chinese military arms. I say almost because, a couple net gun manufacturers test at the same range......I've never got a chance to fire one but, they are awesome! They look like big flashlights and are air charged. Bachoom! "Spida---mmhhhaaannnn!"

A lot of people will say: "weapons are bad...mkay." And I'm sure after your first day at the range, you are going to ignore them.

To me, weapons or "tools" are the fabric of life since a primate grabbed a log and clonked the other guy. And, it is better to give than receive so I familiarize myself with firearms (and other utensils).

I'm sorry Antonio, If you live in the UK, start thinking about getting a boom stick. Violent crime for you guys is getting bad and someone might shoot you for your cool lightsaber. (or at least set up some "Home Alone" booby traps in your house!)

I'm from Glasgow (In Scotland for all you homo-erecti) no need for guns here. Just good old fashioned celtic violence;). We get trained in fighting from the time we can crawl. I think that guns take away the romance of a good punch up. Nothing better than breaking someone's nose with your own forehead:D.

I dunno, I'm a firm believer in peace through superior firepower.

If I know for a fact that my Kung Fu is stronger than that of the guy breaking into my house at three am, I'd be okay with just beating the bastard to a pulp with my bare knuckles. But nothing says "get the fuck outta my house" like the pump action of a Winchester 1200... :D

That's a damn good point sir! I know farmers that say the exact same thing. But I guess guns just kinda scare me, not that I've never fired one. I think it depends where you live though, I think I would have one if I felt I needed it. Where I live is a very famous (famous in Glasgow that is) area for spawning violence and crime, but I'm safe from that because you don't shit where you eat you know. If I moved to one of the areas where guys that live in my area do their 'business' I would definately consider it.

Winchester 1200? Niiice! The kung fu is strong with you JK san :D

Sigh...In one photo I had a close up of the head target. I said the rest are my wife's. I was referring to the shots around the head.

In the next photo I show the rest of the Target with 4 shots grouped nicley near the middle.

This was my first time shooting. Also what "training" do you have?

IPSC. Rifle Semi-Auto Open Division and Handgun Standard Division. I totally recommend joining IPSC.

I'm actually trying to go to a Level III IPSC shoot in Macau in September (27th). I want to go to but it will probably conflict with my work schedule. Barring that, I might try to go to the World Shoot in October in Bali. I'll already be in Australia and figure it may be worth it to get a ticket that comes back to hong kong via Bali.

Also, I've been hunting since I was 8 years old.

i was given my first bow in kindergarden, and my first rifle near the end of elementary school. between my dad and i, we own quite alot of guns and bows. moreso for hunting, not ranges. but my dad has made many bows of various styles, and assembled a few rifles. personally, i've never shot at anything besides a target [hence why i was an archery nerd until puberty], but my dad is a well traveled hunter. i wish i had a picture of it, but his most beautiful rifle is a hand-made quigley sharps rifle. i remember it took a few years to make, and he shit a brick when ups lost it for a few days.

Very cool to make your own....well at least for my brother. He's 100 times better at woodworking than myself. He bought a couple of Musket kits and built them. I would have carved spongebob into the stock.

I think an archery nerd is higher on the food chain than most nerds for sure.

I'd rather rely upon myself and my acumen with firearms to defend my home and loved ones rather than wait the ten to thirty minutes it would take for the police to respond when an armed perpetrator is kicking down my front door...

Bullshit! This is the norm for some. I do not own a gun, don't know anyone who does (including in Mississippi where I grew up), nor do I or anyone I know plan on buying one.

The play I am in uses a starter pistol, but it cannot even fire real bullets. America is made of individuals, my friend. We make our armament decisions alone.

Admittingly, QSE has a few firearms nuts (myself included). But, RHD is right actually. Most Americans don't own firearms. Yes, there is more of us that do than other countries' populations but, it is generally not as common as the media would project.

Most of my friends had no idea I was going to a firing range. I had only one or two friends my whole time in elementary/highschool/college who used firearms and hunted like I did. We didn't discuss it with other kids. All firearms and ammo were kept locked away and hidden better than most people's porn stash. Even at an early age my friends and I knew that killing and gutting a deer was not going to be a topic to discuss during lunch or recess.

My town is a living stereotype. Discussions like that happen here all the time. But it's mostly among the other stereotypes we have here. I believe you would call them "Cletus". ;)

First, do you legally own that? Secondly, if so where do you live so I can move there and also legally own one. Firearm laws in Canada restrict the majority of weapons to only be allowed a 5 round magazine. Which means no drum magazine shotguns. The only guns I have are a Tippmann 98c paintball gun and a bb gun.

First, do you legally own that?

The FN Herstal PS-90 is the civilian version of the P-90. It's extended barrel and semi-auto only put it in with other civilian allowed semi-auto rifles/carbines like the AR-15 (in some US states). Course, it's stands out from the crowd on design alone ;) . I have not had a chance to fire one but would like to see what the ambidextrous design is like (I'm a lefty, mostly), check out the sighting and get a feel for the new FN 5.7x28mm round. No one I know back in the states that I go shooting with has one. I'm tempted to buy one for my brother for Christmas. I could try it during visits.

I just checked online. I could ship it to an FFL dealer near his house (we are both licensed firearms holders in our state). Sure beats socks and cologne for Christmas.;)

ratm1966
08-28-2008, 01:50 AM
Yeah, it is the civilian version which is semi-automatic only...sigh.

However, I love it. The small round means little to no recoil and the accuracy is pretty damn good for such a short rifle. Mine came with the 30 round mag, but I bought the 50 as an extra. The only thing that can be cnsidered a drawback, in my opinion, are the sights. They are easy to use and all, but can be difficult when using a light in color/white target as the optical ring will sometimes blend in.

My daughter loves shooting it also. She prefers shooting a handgun I think, but still like to shoot this. She definitely doesn't like my more powerful rifles as they kick too much for her.

Added: I want to get their pistol also as it is chambered for the same round.

No if only I can get my hands on the military/police only armor piercing rounds and maybe an actual P-90. I think I would be in heaven.

Run for the border my freind. Flee South to America, and the southerererer to Texas. I have a 20 round magazine for my browning hi power, and there is a class 3 dealer in my neighborhood.
