I was told to take my politics and f*** off out of the other thread so here's my new one.

American stabbed to death in Beijing as Olympics get underway (http://au.sports.yahoo.com/news/article/-/4873641/american-stabbed-death-beijing-olympics-underway)

The killer stabbed the Americans and then jumped to his death.

Anyone want to speculate on his motives? Was he carrying a Chinese copy of Catcher in the Rye at the time? Is this what you get when you spend 50 years delivering 'America is the devil' propaganda to your people and then invite a bunch of Americans into your country?

Apparently crime is rising in the city and there were no marking on the couple to suggest they were American or part of the Olympics.
Just a random murder unfortunately

I doubt it was totally random. The killer was obviously unbalanced and crazy but there had to be some reason he went after 'foreign' looking people. Also, he might have recognized the language.

I'm not saying this is all about America at all. I don't even think it's about culture or ethnicity. It really is about politics and the differences between fascism and democracy. At least in my mind.

He was in a tourist hotspot. He hurt a Chinese tourguide when he committed suicide and one of the girls he hurt during the attack was Chinese.
He was just a crazy asshole looking to do some damage.
I think trying to find anything more in it is just reaching.

Unfortunately, crazy is attracted to different. It sucks to be approached by the mentally unstable because you look different and they think that makes you......whatever it is the fucking insane are looking for: comrade or victim. I'm positive this guy attacked the "Foreign Devils" and their "traitor whore" tour guide because he was batshit crazy and that was his flavor of expressing it. Could have just as easily whipped out his dong and beat off on them. Would have been a better story actually.

I don't think politics or fascism get involved. Every country has guys like this or worse. The only thing political you can get out of this is China was probably greatful the nutjob jumped to his death. Saved them the undelicate task of executing the bastard within an hour of his trial, which would have done a few hours after his arrest. How would you like Amnesty International pissing up and down for this guy's rights as a human being?

That's probably a more reasonable way of looking at it. But I still say you can extrapolate more from the event. For instance, it makes me wonder what the state of mental health services and treatment are in China.

Apparently the guy who died worked 30 minutes north of where I live for a long time.

Americans just can't figure out why the world hates us so much. One reason may be because we're raising our children to be whiny poor sports. There have been several situations in this year's Olympic Games where American athletes have lost their event(s) or not placed as high as they'd liked and have cried foul. Now after watching the women's gymnastics last night, I admit there was a little score fudging going on there...but the excess of athletes coming out in the media and sniveling because of this and that...it's just shameful and embarrassing. If you lose, suck it up.
