B. CCTV is batshit flagwaving crazy (along with the rest of the nation), they are reviewing every single medal china wins over and over. Barely showed any other winners. Thank god other broadcasts covering the Olympics are available in Hong Kong.
C. David Kostelecky of the Czech Republic gets gold in trap shooting, in the pouring rain.......Cinderalla story.
D. I can't believe they are doing BMX bike racing as the invitational and not Wire Fighting Synchronized Kungfu Ping Pong (hell, even the opening ceremony had a guy flying around on wires).
E. A collective gasp was heard in Houston...and China a the same time when Yao Ming when down with a twisted ankle during the US/China Mens Basketball.
F. Did I mention Women's Beach Volleyball?

One of the girls at work said she was in another part of her house when she heard a big crash. She yelled to her husband "What the hell was that?". Her husband yelled back "Nothing". She made her way to the living room where her husband had just watched the finish of the race. It seems he jumped up pumping his fists in the air and killed a lamp next to his chair, accidently. She had to clean up the mess. He was still glued to the tube. :cool:

Phelps could be the all-time #1 in golds at one Olympics if he wins everything. I know nothing about how swimming works...if he comes in 2nd or 3rd in a given heat, semi, whatever...is there still another tier in the competition? How does it all work?

For some reason the IOC didn't invite him! (probably he pissed of some people with his ego). He's here in Hong Kong! Not for Olympics though, on business. Something about bottled water (which is weird because he's a private equity broker).

He's staying at the Mandarin, so I might just go over an hang out at the Captain's Bar tonight to see if he shows up. Think I'll shave off all the beard except for a mustache......

Some Olympic highlights:

Lezak saves the day! You all have heard already I'm sure that US historic come from behind win of the 4x100m freestyle relay. highlight of the Olympics for sure. I recommend US folks congrats NBC for forking out a billion dollars to host Olympic coverage and get advantageous times for events to be aired in the US. Several althetes are lining up to bitch about their event times because of it (sissies).

India Holy Zing! - Abhinav Bindra gets gold in 10m air rifle. It is India's first Individual medal ever and a major upset for China who assumed they would dominate in the shooting competitions. These guys shoot perfect 10's all the time. Zhu Qinan (who pretty much cried in defeat and massive pressure from the Motherland) took silver and missed his final round of shooting by 3 points out of 600. Insane. These guys fire from a standing position at 10m from a target with a 10 ring target of only 0.5 mm.

Another massive upset - Badminton Doubles and Japan's Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna knock China's number one seeds out of contention. Yang and Zhang ain't no thang! I'm no fan of badminton but, this is like Carl "Cinderella Story" Spackler kicking Tiger Wood's ass in golf. China still has 2nd and 3rd seed teams in the running but, 90% of the time in badminton and ping pong (no don't dignify it by calling it table tennis) it's China versus China with China in third. Also, you walk into a local bar, and yes its on TV just as much as soccer, formula 1, or basketball. Everyone who wasn't Chinese was rooting these girls on.

Well there Normy, first you are entered into a heat (group of swimmers) according to your entry time. the better the time, the closer to the last heat you get put in (you want to see every one else's times before swimming). Second, you eliminate by timing. A guy who is 4th place in his heat but scores .26 seconds faster than a 1st place finisher in the next heat, still advances above that guy. The Final heat is made up of all the fastest times, not what place they came in. That is my understanding.

I didn't want to bad mouth the Olympics, but this is not political, just shameful on China's part.

Remember that wonderful opening ceremony.........here are some of the things, so far, we are finding out they utterly faked.

Footprints Pixar Style: All of the footprint fireworks....Faked. Only the last footprint display at the end is real. All the rest were digitally inserted into the broadcast. Wonder what else they digitally inserted...badoomba-tsh! Seriously, why the hell would they do that? Does this give everyone an excuse to Pixar up their opening ceremony? What utter bullshit.

$50 bucks says there will be more. A lot more. In all categories. Down the line, we'll see some scandals come out of this Olympics. From money pitched at third world countries with judges in their atheletes events to releasing mosqitoes with all sorts of diseases onto potential athelete rivals (from places like malaysia and indonesia where no one could care much less figure it out). Trust me when I say this: tip of the iceberg. And I should know, I've lived in China for the last 12 years (yes, hong kong is a part of china with 99.998% of its population chinese). Don't I know it. As a telecommunications Engineer in China, I'm privy to what they screen and how they search. In fact, we shut down one of their gateways once way back in 98' due to lack of payment. that was ugly. Some Government company thought they could utilize bandwidth for free because they were China. We kept their equipment (about 2 million USD worth) until they paid the bill. ooh boy. thank god my company has changed names 3 times since then.

China's awesome wome....wome.....girls gymnastics team takes group gold. They didn't even have to lean over on the podium to receive their medals. What an advantage being 3'5" and only 14...I mean 16 years old.
