Ken P. D. Snyde-Cast 121: Can You Hear Me Now?
Ken & Dana return with a wee bit of a diatribe against the cell phone industry, then wonder if you can be too thin for Broadway, before contemplating the importance of kazoos in live performance.

These things are $5 USD in Hong Kong stationary/useless crap stores. There are pee and poo cell phone tassles, stationary, bathroom stickers, erasers, etc. Asia loves making body waste into fun......*sigh*
Just listened to #121 only to see #122 pop up!
"hey its skipper, i'm looking for little buddy." - Dana, cast #121, destoyer of childhood memories of Gilligan's Island. :)
Food, every time dana and ken talk about food; I start drooling. sounds like they hit some great eateries! And the added touch of relentlessly devolving arguments is the icing on the cake............*sigh*!
listening to #122 now; with skepticism. I somehow don't believe either one of them could do turkey justice. No offense meant but, Turkey is easily done wrong. Even when brined.

Weird. Kind of annoying when that kind of stuff comes up. I'm actually convinced that Apple has something against countries that aren't the US or Canada. x_x
P.S.: Not trying to sound like my usual whore-ish self... but does Hong Kong carry The Swimcast?
Ken singing love boat was excellent! That cast had more information about the love boat than I ever knew. Charlies Angels crossover?
Alas, "The item you've requested is not currently available in the Hong Kong store." No swimcast joy either.
another issue I have unfortunately is with the page design for the podcasts om FRED.
for some reason, the add placed between the "Content Warning" notice and the MP3's always locks my view from getting past it. (at least I think that is what the issue is). I can never scroll down to the embedded player to select it. i have to pull the page into Word edit and then select the MP3 download. very weird. My guess is my work computer is somehow not on some latest version of IE and is running into problems. (we're running version 6.0.29 SP2)

I loved this one. Dana was relentless. My favorite one of late!
Ken, you are the fun whacky Uncle. I salute you sir. I laughed and laughed and laughed during your regalling of the mishaps of being Santa.
Tokyo Disney is great. Japanese speaking Disney characters Dana will love. He should go in the summer for DisneySea part as well.
If he wants to hit both of them, (ie LAX-HKG-TKO-LAX route and catch Hong Kong Disney) I can tour him around Hong Kong Disney. I live right near it and go all the time. Pretty much have a fool proof way of sneaking in beer. But, Tokyo Disney is the must. It is bigger and more established. The only advantage to Hong Kong Disney is its less crowded.
Plus, I'd recommend he jump on the fast train and scoot over to Kyoto while in Japan. very cool old city that survived the WWII bombings. And the beer is excellent! he will fall in love with it.

On the subject of the fastfood chat... when I worked at McDonalds back when I was fresh out of high school I would chat with the customers at the window while we both waited for the slow people making the food. I rarely asked them to pull up. This did lead to a creepy guy coming through the drive threw a little too often for my taste, but still, I always felt it was wrong to have to ask them to pull up.

I think "marked as spam" is Ken's polite way of saying he didn't bother reading it. I had a really nice (rather flattering) e-mail to Ken after our first encounter at New York Comic-Con a few years back and I was disappointed that it was never read.

wow, nostalgic cast for 138. I was having candy flashbacks. one they failed to mention; hubba bubba original flavour. it was insanely good. and for a while it was hard to find instead there was all this bubbalicous crap. inferior gum in my mind. I cannot believe Dana mentioned Tangy Taffy! I also use to go crazy for it and it was my number one favorite too! When it disapeared I went everywhere looking for it. never to be found. was really disappointing as a kid. Their Cherry and Grape flavour was magic. never ever found a substitute for it.
I agree with Ken 100%; black liqourice is repulsive. I hated the crap and hate sambucca/Jager because they use that flavour (anise).
Loved caramel and 10,000 grand bars too(the braided caramel bar Dana was talking about). Plus Sugar Daddy's. The stuff Dana like (and myself) I found less people liked. I'd never have to compete for the candy I bought. My brother was a chocolate junky.
The bathroom debat was hilarious. No peeking! Dana should try living in Asia for a while, people will indeed look in just to see who's there if there is a gap. hang the shirt.

Please can we have the podcast dry because the Jeepers Creepers mix is starting to make me crazy, it becomes subliminal sometimes but often starts to grate. I understand it's really tough to make a background mix each week and Ken already has to do ones for Smodcast so if it's dry we can play our own music underneath and not go mad from extreme muzak repetition :D This has probably come up a lot but it bears repeating

Really? I think I have to echo what others have said and say that if you don't like it, then don't listen. There are plenty of podcasts out there that have background music (some worse than others.)
Personally, the background music on the Snydecast is non-intrusive to me and actually helps with the times where there's a long unnecessary pause.
Honestly, in the last 3 years you're the first person i'm aware of who finds this an issue. I have to wonder if you're the same type of person who would listen to two eps of a podcast and then 1-star rate it on iTunes.
I really wish more podcasts (my own included) would do background music, but my music tastes would probably annoy some people... Plume is a professional at this stuff and picked a rather neutral music selection that blends into the podcast, and I think it works well.

Well, that's not fair :( I'm not that sort of person at all. I love and contribute to Snydecast, Cabin Fever, Smodcast, Weekend Justice and related specials, I've been listening for years and have expanded my listening across the recommended podcasts. I'm only giving some constructive criticism, perhaps my tone was off?
Sorry to bring it up. I'm really sad now, I'll leave.

There's no need to leave dude. We can sometimes come across as a bit snippy to outsiders around here because we're fairly close-knit. As such, when someone new comes around and is seen to be critical (and I understand that you didn't intend to be mean about it or anything), we get our backs up a little. Apologies.
But maybe you should get a few more posts under your belt before you start telling us to paint the walls, get new carpet etc. ;)

Have you ever tried this? It's a lot of work and some people hate it. It's not worth the time and effort. In the case of Snyde, it is a loop that he just slaps on there, but I imagine Smod takes a lot more time.

OK Ken, Let me get this straight. You have the chance to go see Dana play Max Bialystok live and have been offered to be put up in a hotel by the man himself, but you won't do it because of a 5 hour drive????
Damn it, man! Do it! It's The Producers, and did I forget to mention that Dana is playing Max Bialystok? AND he's your friend to boot. I'd consider sacrificing a nut to to see that kind of awesome. I wouldn't really give up a nad, but maybe contemplate it for a second. Do it for me Ken, do it... for me.

Agreed. It certainly isn't anything personal. As Enzeru said, it's rather odd for a n00b to these boards to be making requests on random things. I'm sure you love and appreciate podcasts... but there are some out there who for some reason don't (and rate 1-star on iTunes. x_x)

Thank you Ken! Wasn't sure you'd be able to scrounge up that one in karaoke form! Excellent!! You're all heart!
I can't help it; the food episodes are my favorite.
A. because Ken and Dana definitely have different tasts in food.
B. because they are critiquing such a wide variation. It's not all fancy pants resaurants. the range goes from fast food to fancy and everything inbetween including home cooking.
I'm now thoroughly disappointed in all my possible lunch selections today after hearing #148.
In and out burger..........I have to agree with Dana! I also love the place. When I'm in LA; its a requirement. I've even made a date with one of the flight attendants from my flight (cathay pacific) to In and out burger. She'd flown to LA for 5 years and never been to one. for shame! I might have wrecked the date by ordering a triple/triple with chillies and an extra large shake. *sigh*
Ken, you must understand. Burgers can be done so sooo wrong. Worse than anything you'd tried in the USA. If you walked into the Fatburger here in Hong Kong; you would throw the burger they gave you onto the ground and stomp on it. I have been to a dozen burger joints in Hong Kong and none of them come close to In and Out Burger's quality standards. In and out burger's freshness is therefore foundationary to the rock solid burger standard. It is the ruler by which all places are measured in my book.
Poutine. Cheese curd and gravy on fries. Trust me; excellent! It is very, very good. Buddy of mine from Quebec runs a restaurant here called the "Cul-du-Sac" and serves Poutine. It is the best drunk food ever.
I'm with Dana on Tacos. Dammit to hell I miss hardshell Tacos!! Every friggin mex restaurant in Hong Kong are all soft shell or fajita style but not solid tacos. Aaaagh! Damn them!
There are no double downs in Hong Kong KFC's. I checked. I'll have to wait for Dragoncon and lunch with Phitzy to try one.........and gravy mash potatoes.

Fantastic to hear you guys bantering again!
Not to get ahead of things but: Agree with Ken, next year up to the hotel roof area with drinks is probably a nice alternative to the bar in the lobby or the mayhem that was Trader Vic's on an evening. Arguably those venues are fun, but not conversation supportive. Sitting in the lobby bar with a few folks trying to listen and talk was not an easy feat. Maybe there could be an unannounced KenPDSnydecast/FRED social? Aaron? Care to boss some us around one evening to get it supplied? I'd definitely bring a couple softcoolers (Phitzy would help me carry I'm sure) with various beverages for all. Not just booze. (but probably mostly booze) I say "unannounced" as I think Dana's fans would flood the venue. The panels Dana hosted had lines wrapped around all hell and creation.
Again, great to hear you guys again.

Yeah, most restaurants here in hong kong have lazy susan's.
The literal translation in both Cantonese and Mandarin is "dinner table turntable" or "round turntable". They are a must for the larger tables (+10 people) as you are sharing dishes and tea. I actually didn't know they were called lazy susans back in the US.

And, although I would like to agree with Dana on the great steak debate................... I live in Asia. I have had a baaaaaaaaaad steak. In particular at a Hong Kong restaurant called "Steak Expert". Calling them Steak Expert is like calling my pet turtle a rocket propelled jelly fish. Rotten meat covered in half assed pepper sauce. One bite and I walked up to their waiter, told him it was rotten, got into a 30 minute debate about the refund and then called the health and safety board on them. You wouldn't have made a 5 hour flight after that meal or anything more than a 50 second walk to the bathroom for that matter. Puke then the shits. Then repeat every 20 minutes like the hills are alive with the sound of misery and sausage gravy. Any food can lay you low with the right bacteria.

Ken & Dana return with a conversation that focuses largely on soup. Or a stew. We're not really sure.

If you guys are going to talk recipes maybe I should send in a couple :D
ha, you destroyed "Cheers!" Is nothing sacred! Ha! Ha! ha! Thanks for that Ken. I do enjoy the Crapaoke.
Thanksgiving......I mostly spend it with friends/neighbors or visiting military. It's really difficult to fly back during Thanksgiving. Sounds like Dana's "family thanksgiving special" is a tragedy and he's better off just sticking around the homestead and having a few friends over.
"Sweety" is from Duxbury!? My old rivals aarrgh (I'm from Plymouth)! Nice place indeed. I'd go fishing with my father there all the time.

Moroccan chick pea stew sounds good! Right on Dana! I'm up for making Moroccan stew now. Especially as the weather is getting cooler. Man, I love it when you guys talk about food. Kinda gets me psych to hit the kitchen/restaurants.
And I love spinach. Especially steamed then mixed with sea salt, chopped raw garlic and sesame oil. damn good.
I'm sure Dana's niece having him as a tour guide is hilarious. Actually Hong Kong Disney seems to be built more for younger kids that older ones. Space mountain is the only adult ride in Hong Kong disney. The rest are all slow rides or shows.

Ken P. D. Snydecast 160: Scratch Fever
Ken & Dana return with a rant about poor driving skills, mixed with a rant about poor parking skills. Basically, nobody should be allowed to drive, ever.

Great show again! I also had my car dented in a parking lot. The driver took off without leaving a note. I can feel Dana's pain...
With Ken heading out to see Dana soon, will there be a special show in the future?

sympathize with the "Blah, Blah, Blah! Oh listen to me phone call!" crap. That is maddening to a fault.

It would be interesting to hear Dana's take on Tokyo Disney (in comparison to Florida and California) How many Disneylands have you guys made it to so far? Either of you make it to EuroDisney yet?

I totally called Chicken in a Biscuit as your favorite cracker right before you said it. What cracked me up is the fact that I'm not the only one who loves CIAB, but never really buys them, or wants to eat them. I chalk it up to nostalgia more so than taste.
Oh, Happy Birthday, Snydecast! :)

I think it will be back sometime. I might be mistaken, but I think Dana is still busy with theatre productions.

That's the rumour mill. I had some walk time with Ken in the hallways of D*Con between gigs and there was an alludation to that effect. Sounds like Dana's got his fingers in a few places. I think he's voicing/working for about 5 TV series now. Still needs to get his darn "eyeofthesnyder.com" site up and running.
