You're the mean lady from Dragon*Con last year, aren't you.

Battleground
01-21-2010, 12:33 PM
Haha, no. I didn't go to Dragon*Con last year. I'm more of an Anime Weekend Atlanta girl. I am starting to get a little old for AWA though and the young fangirls have been getting on my nerves over the past couple of years.

The one year I went to DC I was approached by a lot of creepy old guys and I wasn't even in a costume!

I got to hang out with Terry Gilliam, Dana Snyder, Neil Innes, Jackson Publick, Doc Hammer and Adam Savage. Wouldn't you?

Besides, I get my fair share of weirdos trying to sex me at it too. Just ask Zac and the guys about my Atlanta stalker.

Maybe it's because of Brian's dimples.

By the way, this has confused me. Do my dimples not count?

Battleground
01-21-2010, 12:54 PM
That's just because of your accent. It doesn't count :p

You have dimples? I never noticed before.

Oh btw, one of the forementioned blondes' last name was Poole, though his family is of English decent. Still, kinda freaky.

<3

There's no worse feeling then when I walk into an arcade, see a HotD2 "box", and realize after 10 seconds of playing it that either the gun triggers are shot (hehehe) or the guns don't work at all.

Yeah that is a massive let down, I lost 2$ on one once (both players cause I wanted to be ash.... haha) to only find out that the cabinet was screwed :( I didn't even get a refund I got prize tokens........ I'm glad "Tilt Arcades" has gone away

I have all the stuff for a MaME cabinet jigged and ready.. I'm just having issues "legally acquiring" arcade dumps other than neo geo or classic gaming. Granted I wouldn't be totally upset with them there just isn't much that uses light guns that I can get ahold of. I might have to shill out for licensing to get a rom dump or a board from some where.

And the Six Nations starts on February 6th. I can't feckin' wait!

Ha, nice article, and so current:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3/phitdemon/Picture5-6.png

There's been plenty of broken necks/backs etc in rugby through the years, and let's not forget what two New Zealand scumbags did to Brian O'Driscoll (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsXJyDHFKn0).
Hee! Hee! Hee! Hey, everyone who played that year is now dead!

Not a Kiwi fan for rudgy. they're too full of themselves in rugby (although I have to go to auckland next month so I'll hold my tongue). Six nations is pretty well broadcasted here (there is a decent population of brits, scots, welsh and the occassional irish/french which helps keep the games on the tele). But, mostly 7 aside is really popular here. And some Australian rules football.

I got to hang out with Terry Gilliam, Dana Snyder, Neil Innes, Jackson Publick, Doc Hammer and Adam Savage. Wouldn't you?

Matt Groening has writing credit on about a half dozen Simpsons episodes, but for the most part you're right, Brian, for someone credited with "creating" a show he had incredibly little to do with what it was about and little influence over what it would become. I really loved John Ortved's book on the history of the show and highly recommend it even for those who aren't big fans of The Simpsons. In it he talks about how a large part of the animosity between James L. Brooks and Matt Groening stems from all the praise and credit Groening received in the early years for having done almost nothing.

Great show, guys.

I totally forgot to answer this from a few weeks back on Cabin Fever (and by that I mean December);

The Bugle is still going, just past it's 100th episode and has been getting funnier and funnier in my opinion. Fitzy was the one who got me in to it in the first place.

I also listen to the daily BBC Radio Sheffield podcast for their breakfast show hosted by Toby Foster - best known as the drummer of the band in Phoenix Nights. Got in to that simply because it lasts about my walk to the train station and I have always found him amusing.

Last is Innapropriate Behaviour, which I believe Louise listens too also, which is about as close to 'Cabin Fever but English' I think you could get.

So that is the 3 English podcasts I listen to.

just finished listening to the cast and it's awesome! I really loved the discussion.

My only comment would be that for the people I know, The Killers peaked with Hot Fuzz and their other albums sucked.

I read an interview with them when their 2nd album came out and they were talking about how they had never listened to a lot of Rock and Roll before recording Hot Fuzz, and then they went out and listened to BRuce Springsteen and some other people and were totally amazed by it and how it really influenced their 2nd album, and that Springsteen's Nebraska album shoudl be required listening for everyone.

That tells you everything you need to know about them. Hack band with a few good songs. Kinda glad they are hanging up their spurs, so to speak.

I know this discussion is dead, but those are two of my three favorite. I'd replace batman with "Along Came A Spider", the one mostly about Spiderman (weird huh?) Opening song is fantastic, and it has my favorite throw-away joke, about whether or not its racist to discriminate against people in wheelchairs. Aaron goes, "Are people in wheelchairs a race? You can race em!" It's immediately passed over, but it makes me laugh every time.

I wouldn't be as harsh as that.

Flowers grew up listening to The Pet Shop Boys. Rock wasn't his thing. That's what made the first album so good, it's because it wasn't TRYING to be a rock album. There were no cliches.
That's why, I think, the later albums were so bad. Trying to be stadium rock too much. It was lame.

....I loved the hell out of the latest ep!

It took 3 sittings (well, a walk, a train journey, and working) to finish it then as I sat on the train home this evening I get my wee shout out!

C'mere you big softy

*hug*

The 2 and a half hours had me rivitted. Both of you were speaking of something that, at the end of the day over 10 years, is deeply personal. It's wasn't reeking of jokes every other minute (although there were some superbly funny moments in it) but it said a lot about the two of you in ways that couldn't normally be put accross. I enjoyed the hell out of it and actually feel I know you both a bit better now because of it!

And now on to what you will all most likely shame me for;

I fucking adore Sum 41.

Firstly puggso_32 -> their drummer goes by the name Stevo 32. My actual nickname is just Puggs, when I first needed an email address this came to mind and I have used it ever since.

Sum 41 for me were/are 'that band'. And I think everyone has it. Not the first band you see live but the first band you see live were you walk away and think the gig changed you in a way.

My gigs before that were bands I had a passing interest in, Sum 41 were the first one I saw where I knew just about every song and felt like I connected with them on stage. This has been a very rare thing me with (the other main ones being Dropkick Murphys and Simple Plan - I know I know, but I can't help it!).

I think when something like that happens you lean more to liking a bands later recordings than soemone who is just a passing fan and can take or leave them. The band went with me through my teens and they seem to have changed every time roughly when I have. I will still go see them live whenever they come to Glasgow and appreciate the music. It's just something I can't shake.

And that's why Bryan's mate should have no shame over liking them!

I assume everyone has a band like that.

Aaron, after listening to episode 85, I think very much that you'd enjoy Kevin Devine. Apart from him being the nicest dude I've ever met; all of his gigs (that I've seen him at) have felt like a living room show and he has a very Brendan Benson-y feel to him without being an addict (anymore).

I'm sure Rawlings has told you about him, but he's worth a go.

Brian, I love Scott Matthews, but obviously not as much as you. The description of his voice was perfect...I had always tried to place it and that was great.

That's something we can't help unfortunately. I had the same issues with listening to Bagged & Boarded's Stand By Me track, and every Rifftrax that for that matter. It's due to the whole NTSC/PAL problem, and it's unavoidable. It doesn't bother me too much though.

Hot Hot Heat - Make Up the Breakdown

Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way
Daft Punk - Discovery
Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche
Radiohead - Kid A
Scott Matthews - Passing Stranger

Aaron
The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers
Feeder - Echo Park
Common - Be
Kanye West - College Dropout
Snow Patrol - Final Straw

Yeah, I'm quite obsessed at this point. I finally remembered what my other previous favourite album had been between Air -Moon Safari and Passing Stranger (that sounds ridiculous, admittedly), it was Jeff Buckley - Grace.

Has anyone compiled a list of the top tens? I listen when I'm away from the computer and wanted to check out some of the albums on Rhapsody.
Here's mine:

1. Scott Matthews - Passing Stranger (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=9274831) (Try not to fall in love with this song. It's impossible)
2. Radiohead - Kid A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrpGhEVyrk0)
3. Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGtwRRzZY6c)
4. Daft Punk - Discovery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L05mrF1my4)
5. Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPTBq18shxo)
6. The Strokes - Is This It (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrMPUlJxmt8)
7. Badly Drawn Boy - The Hour of Bewilderbeast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAtcJ954TjQ)
8. Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjI9WLG7Gr0)
9. N*E*R*D - In Search Of (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRGcDO-U8Nc)
10. Hot Hot Heat - Make Up The Breakdown (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13AUsPMg3GQ)

I was disgusted to forget my second favourite album of the decade, Bloc Party - Silent Alarm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R6S5CJWlco), but my brain was being an idiot.

By the way, I discovered Chromeo late in '09 and played some albums when some friends were over and about 5 tracks in they all started giving me a hard time about it. Screw em! Good band and I'm glad to hear Cabin Fever agrees with me.

I hate to be that asshole that goes onto a message board just to talk about a problem downloading a podcast but I have a problem downloading the podcast. Is anyone else not getting any automatic downloads of Cabin Fever after 84? 85 and today's 86 is not downloading even though it is on the iTunes page even unsubscribing and resubscribing doesn't help. Oh well I'll do a manual download of both episodes hopefully automatic downloads will resume by next week.

I got auto download for 85, but 86 isn't downloading. 85 also didn't have a release date on the cast information, it might just be problems with the url switchover from quick stop.

“Yeah, I know. I work for this company too.” When I saw Avatar, I was kinda thinking the same thing too. “Hey, I’m a scientist; don’t talk down to me you corporate asswhore!”

The story line was utter crap. None of the dialogue interested me at all. But, like Transformers, I never noticed the story. I mean seriously; when something is that pretty, you just don't care if it has brains. And thats how men and women think.

Aaron had “Vile Hatred” for Fantasia. It never dawned on me but, I am glad I was spared seeing it as a child.

I'm pretty sure I was talking about Grindin' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qimhk5OjeQQ). It's a disgustingly good track, and the album, Lord Willin' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Willin'), is pretty much flawless.

“Yeah, I know. I work for this company too.” When I saw Avatar, I was kinda thinking the same thing too. “Hey, I’m a scientist; don’t talk down to me you corporate asswhore!”.
And then her next line could have been along the lines of, "You'd swear we were in a movie or something". It was the worst example of clunky exposition that I've heard in quite a while.

The story line was utter crap. None of the dialogue interested me at all. But, like Transformers, I never noticed the story. I mean seriously; when something is that pretty, you just don't care if it has brains. And thats how men and women think..
The difference for me would be that Avatar had a simplistic plot, which played out quite well for my money, whereas Transformers had no plot.

Aaron had “Vile Hatred” for Fantasia. It never dawned on me but, I am glad I was spared seeing it as a child..
In its defence, The Sorcerer's Apprentice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2Rfriax4DY) is pretty cool, and Fantasia in general is awesome if you're watching it for the animation/music. It's just the worst possible movie you could show to a child.

I totally agree with Phitzy; Monsters Inc. was robbed by Shrek. It was way better a movie.

I'll field this one, Brian.

*elbows Phitzy roughly aside*

It used to be the case that the numbers million, billion, trillion etc. each being bigger than the last by a factor of 1000 was purely an American convention. Outside America, it was factors of a million; a billion was a million millions, a trillion was a million billions etc. So what was referred to as a billion outside America was called a trillion in the US.

This could have led to confusion in certain areas, particularly finance, so the American convention was gradually adopted everywhere else. In the UK, you still get some fusty old codgers who refuse to say 'billion' for a thousand million,

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/files/2007/Sir_Patrick_Moore.jpg

but the majority of people accept the 'new' way.

EDIT: Also, I second Bop's question.

No its the American way to put profit before people, the idea that we should treat our own people with common decency and not leave them to die is communist.

Please tell me that is sarcasm, and if so bravo!

I can tell you from personal experience: the communist way, at least the Chinese communist way, is to have such a surplus of people as to devalue their life to not being a concern when they do die. communism in china places absolutely no value on human life.

Cabin Fever 87: To Kill A Leprechaun

This week, Brian and Aaron are joined by the puppet master Ken Plume. He manages to pull the strings and direct conversation through fairy museums, movies, and harmonica dueling. Music is provided by the sexiest band on earth, Le Sexoflex, and the most illegal Los Fahina.

Hate to complain, but the episodes still aren't downloading on Itunes properly. I've unsubscribed and resubscribed several times and I to do seems to fix the problem. For some reason the new episodes are ending up at the bottom of the list (because the release date is missing) and Itunes doesn't register that they're new episodes.

Aaron
02-20-2010, 06:06 AM
Very rarely has iTunes ever downloaded on the same day we put it up and that's the same for Mars Needs and ChuckVsMal. If you wait or day or two they start downloading then (that's how it's always happened for me).

JasterIsFett
02-20-2010, 12:23 PM
Its not that we can't download them, its just that the podcast isn't showing when the release date is, so its not auto-downloading when we refresh the iTunes screen.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/JasterIsFett/releasedate.jpg

See, no release date. I just thought something was going on with how the podcasts were being uploaded, if it just takes a day or so to fully update all the info, then I'll just wait.

Its just that this is the first time that this has happened.

Yeah, I think that's the bit that worries me.

That's understandable. Hospital bills can be a b#tch and a half.

That is not entirely true, you are correct that in most cases the bill comes after the procedure, however some procedure are long (chemo) and would require payment throughout.

This is true. I was just thinking about something more immediate like a car accident or something. Slow, painful death doesn't count in an example as vague and broad as mine.

For the most part however people get the medical treatment and then go bankrupt and loose their homes trying to pay for it later on.

Yep. Depending on the ailment, medical bills can ruin people if their income isn't big enough for it.

I couldn't agree more.

Eh, I'll buy him a beer, we'll have a lively debate, and both people will walk away with their minds unchanged. It's the American way! :D

And at least a lot of face-palming from one side as to why the other can't understand it!

...maybe both.

hmmm Plumey on the Fever. Hey O! He's almost as famous as Boy George! Hooray!

Well, looks like I'll be skipping "Invictus" sounds craptastic. Damn you Hollywood.

Note: There is a distinct possibility Doc Hammer has a restraining order for at least two individuals on this Cabin Fever (Aaron take a step back).

I've got to say, not seeing this Irish twin tard pop group yet in asia (what was the name "jedward"?). We've been spared. But not by much. There's worse here.

"I'm right here Aaron, right here." Oh, Phitzy you slay me!

And wow, an actual Leprechaun museum; oh my! Lepre-corn dogs! I agree with Ken, Phitzy should apply for the job just to see what's at the end of the rainbow! What's the worst that could happen?

You definitely should find that leprechaun cam and take a dump in front of it dressed like a leprechaun. Or, Ken's outstanding idea of having a drunken leprechaun brawl (possibly with some WWF moves?). That would be real magic!

The movie "The Wraith" was cheap surplus time killing for HBO back when thin ties were cool. Classic B rate movie derelict! But, it did give us the outstanding line: "Cold in his own sauce!"

The harmonicas were a nice touch. And by nice touch I mean "craaahp!"

were you guys watching TV? zzzzzzzzzzzz! Off to the Leprechaun Museum for both you!

And WTF is Sexoflex? Nevermind, I shouldn't ask. Horrid.

So, let me get this straight, Ken has potentially pissed off Lou Ferrigno last year and this year he's crappin on Zac? And from oh such a lofty height! He's going to get his ass kicked by some sort of amalgamation of this:

And disdain will not protect him (nor will Doc Hammer). Dana is definitely a safer 'heavy' choice.......*sigh*. Vaudevillian Showtunes apparently sooth the savage beasts.

Razorback has a podcast???? how how very very wrong. the man's written word is pungent enough. I have printed out his avatar at least once and placed it in the one of urinals in my office. I now hate Calvin because of him. :(

Thanks again for the podcasts gents!

You know, I've never had a corn-dog. You can't get them here.

I can't in good concious recommend going out of your way to get one when you are on your next visit state-side. I'm sure Plumey will have better fare. But green corn dogs called "Leprecorns" probably could market well from now up to the 17th this month in the US (you guys don't celebrate St. Patrick's I assume).
