Please say someone else saw this article. It ran in the New York Time on the 15th (though I bet it's been printed elsewhere since). A monkey in a North Carolina laboratory used it's brain to *think* about walking --- and a robot on a treadmill in Japan began to walk. O__O

The article goes into detail about how this was achieved, but clearly it's the first step towards cyborg mech-legs for the immobilized. If you can think it, you can do it. Or at least chimps can. HOLEEE SHEET.

Here is the link to the NYT online article. It's not the same as the printed one, but it is just as amazing. Check out the graphics and video.

Don't you mean it's the first step towards this?

Do we really want to build robots that monkeys can control with their thoughts? This is like, two different sci-fi apocalypses combined.

Planet of the Apeinators?
or
Planet of the Terminapes?

Our only real hope is that the robots turn on the monkeys and they wipe each other out in a big war leaving us to pick up the pieces.

You mean metaphorical pieces right? Because I'm damned if I'm spending time picking up robo-bits and monkey pieces.

How else do you expect to build a race of cyborg-monkeys to serve as our slaves in the new world?

Thats just asking for trouble amigo, think about "ghosts in the machine".

That plan would just bite you in the ass.

The real question is, who flung the poo?

I think that's like step 27 in Leonardo Leonardo's plan to take over the world.

How's that for an obscure reference?

It depends if they are Apeinators or Terminapes, I think that computers could find a way to fling poo easy enough but the only by-product of computers is heat. Imagine monkeys trying to throw lumps of waste heat across a room, they got problems there I tell's ya.

Heaps of poo get burned everyday.

"Terminape, terminape, terrrrrminape. Say terminape."

"Terminape."

"Terminape. Sounds funny."

"Yeah, it does."

More like MASTERS... I've read about chimp attacks. Vicious little critters. I can only imagine if they had bulletproof (suddenly "bulletproof"..? why not!) exoskeletons. There would be no stopping them.
