I don't think theres a place to talk about upcoming films which don't yet deserve their own threads, or to post little nuggets of general info in so here it is.

New pic of the Hulk:

Burton to make Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117976106.html?categoryid=13&cs=1). - I think this a perfect match with hopefully another great Elfman score.

And also; McG confirmed as director of T4 - wow, does this news suck. Why don't they go the whole hog and have Paul W S Anderson script it and Uwe Boll Exec Produce?

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! I had a huge long post written for this thread and I friggin' timed out while I was writing it and lost the entire thing when I tried to post it.

Nutshell...

Book was better than movies, but I liked the original movie better than the new one even though it is closer to the book. I believe I read somewhere that Dahl didn't even intend for the book to be a children's book.

Another Roald Dahl book I enjoyed was "My Uncle Oswald"; definitely not a children's book.

Common references between both books; snozzberries. In "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" they are a fruit flavor on lickable wallpaper. In "My Uncle Oswald" it is a slang term for the male genetalia. So, were they licking "dicks and balls" when they were licking the wallpaper?

Yeah, I heard that.
It's the most perfect casting combined with the most wretched director...it could go either way now. The rumour floating around is that Bale is trying to get McG taken off the project. I hope that a) the rumour is true, and b) he succeeds.

I prefer the original movie, it had memroable, likeable songs. Depp isn't a patch on Wilder and comes across more like Michael Jackson. Also in terms of child actors, the 70's kids seemed better, with the exception of the violets who seemed about the same.

Also dark Alice in Wonderland........ isn't that just kind of like the videogame: American McGee's Alice

Antonio_Bay

His much better at being an asshole in his movies, like in Mallrats or even My Names Earl is better than that shit.

A geneticist creates a virus that wipes out the entire human race and leaves him as the last man alive. Then these albino vampire-mutants show up- remnants of the human race. Of course, they're out to kill the last man standing, and he's trying desperately to cure them (since it was his virus that created them in the first place.) They call him Legend, almost like a boogey man, a near invincible killer of mutants.

I'm glad they've got Burton to do Alice, it's his kind of movie.
I have heard he wants to base the look of the movie on the American Mcgee video game.
I really hope it doesn't ruin it in the same way he did with Michael Jackson & The Chocolate Factory.
I am a bit dubious about Sarah Michelle Gellar being Alice the Playing Card Slayer.
I want creepy, dark & very gothic! thats what Burton does best!

Crap on a crap cracker! Starship troopers 3?!?!? I'll admit I was skeptical when I first read it. ST 2 was like a smack in the face with a steaming fresh bag of cow feces. But, after seeing the trailer, it looks like a return to that action movie that never takes itself seriously and ridicules the war machine. With a couple of returning characters I'll see it at least once. Maybe even buy a copy when it comes out for old times sake.

I heard yesterday they're remaking Red Dawn.
I just came here to post a new thread entitled "JK is gonna kill some body"

Screenwriter Carl Ellsworth has been hired to rewrite MGM's Red Dawn, the ultimate homeland invasion story about a new generation of besieged high schoolers. Dan Bradley, a second unit director and/or stunt coordinator on The Bourne Ultimatum, Spider-Man 3 and the forthcoming Quantum of Solace, will move into the director's chair for the update. Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson will produce. Ellsworth will be working from a story written by Jeremy Passmore. Vincent Newman (A Man Apart) is also acting in a producer capacity.
"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," says Ellsworth, "As 'Red Dawn' scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

Jen moved my ammo- everyone is safe. Until I find it again.

Red Dawn was THE movie of my childhood. Me and my buddy Jason Holt ran around the countryside with strips of fabric tied around our heads, toy rifles in hand, shouting "WOLVERINES!" and 'shooting' everything in sight.

And RoboCop... NOBODY will be able to replicate what Paul Verhoeven did. And any attempt at imitation... RoboCop 3.

Some movies would benefit from a reboot- like Disney's The Black Hole, a better, truer vision of The Running Man. But Red Dawn and RoboCop? No.

Dude. You seem like a good kid, young, but harmless enough, so I'm going to point out a few things that might help you fit in around here.
Grammar, punctuation, and spelling are held at a premium around these parts. Put a little effort in to these things. It will not only improve your skills of communication as a whole, but also garner you some respect among the regulars.
Lurk around a bit; just to see how things work. You'll be more comfortable if you understand the etiquette, and the way our little corner of the "world" operates. We're a pretty tight bunch around here, but we're not against welcoming new folks into the fold, as long as they refrain from the douchebaggery and attempt to bring intelligent communication skills to the table.

What is this I hear about the Discworld films? I adore the Terry Pratchett books, I just need to get Making Money to fulfill my literary destiny.

The good boys at Cabin Fever have spoken ill of the movies. Are they that bad? I always thought they could make fantastic movies but I guess a large budget would be called for, and a brilliant director to get the timing juuuust right.

They are making a Terry Brooks novel into a movie, the whole sword of shanarra trilogy, which Im hopin someone has read on this thread lets hope it stays faithful to the novel, and as for the Druid, I hope they get someone decent to play him, there are few ppl who have the kinda prescence necessary to pull off the roll but there is at least one I can think of...He may be a lil old, but Jeremy Irons...

So,

Depp has signed on for a fourth Pirate movie. Anyone excited?

He's also been confirmed as the Mad Hatter in Burton's Alice movie (which I can't wait for.)

A prequel to I Am Legend and has been confirmed.

And rumors are abound that Shane Black is writing a 5th Lethal Weapon movie.

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the music thread...but its Batman related so I figured I'd do it here.

In the song Batdance, at one point Prince says, "Hey Duckie, lets stick the seven inch in the computer" and then there's some weird laughter.

Now, I always thought he said, "Hey Jackie" not "Hey Duckie" but never the less, I have no idea what this part of the song means.

When I realized Howard was playing Rhody, I kinda pondered if I'd really buy him donning the War Machine gear in a later movie, but I didn't think he'd be completely wrong for the role. That said, Cheadle is one of those actors that automatically raises my interest in seeing a movie.

Nolan talks third Batman:
'Well ... let me think how to put this. There are two things to be said. One is the emphasis on story. What’s the story? Is there a story that’s going to keep me emotionally invested for the couple of years that it will take to make another one? That’s the overriding question. On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: How many good third movies in a franchise can people name? [Laughs.] At the same time, in taking on the second one, we had the challenge of trying to make a great second movie, and there haven't been too many of those either. It’s all about the story really. If the story is there, everything is possible. I hope that was a suitably slippery answer.'

Here's a question: How the hell does Gandalf get his staff back after he escapes on the eagle's back in Fellowship of the Ring? It clearly wasn't with him when he busted out, yet when he gets to Rivendell he's got it.

There is a large bearded man flying away from a tower that has no apparent access on a ginormous eagle and you question how he got his staff?

My suspension of belief goes only so far! There are few things I can find wrong with those movies, but that is one of the things that bothers me whenever I watch them (which is often, I've watched one and two today).

well, I don't remember all the details, its been a few years since I read them all, but lets just say Gwaihir grabbed that too when he was taking Gandalf.

His staff was between his legs, never left, and that was always where the magic happened.

So because a movie is fantasy I can't ask a question about something that appears to be a goof or plot hole? Gee, thanks guys.

Anyways, according to the 'goofs' section on IMDB, it's a different staff when he has it back later.

No. If the solution to the problem can also be explained by fantasy. He's magic. Magicians pull things from thin air. Ta da!

Am I the only one that thinks Star Trek is going to suck? Put aside the fact that some of the movies have been truly wretched (looking at you Undiscovered Country). But just look at who is making it ...

You've got a director who has one directorial credit to his name ... Mission Impossible 3. And his astounding writing credits include Gone Fishin', MI3, Armageddon , and Joy Ride.

Then you have the writing team, who along with Abrams wrote MI3, and by themselves wrote The Legend of Zorro, Transformers, and The Island (which was a complete ripoff of Parts: The Clonus Horror ... cunts).

Yeah yeah yeah they all worked on Alias and Abrams has Lost to his credit .... but that isn't exactly a strong pedigree. Am I alone in thinking this is going to bite a huge amount of cock? I hope not.

Aaron

A lot of waffle

Dude, say what you like about the flick, to suggest that Abrams is a rookie is just plain stupid

Blast Thickneck
04-22-2009, 05:23 PM
I'm not saying he's a rookie, he's written and produced a ton of movies. Most of which sucked, I was just pointing out that the one directorial role he has had happened to be with the same writing team who wrote Star Trek, and is there a single person alive who thought MI3 was good, or even comprehensible?

His TV work has been stellar, but it hasn't translated to movies thus far. I am not confident at all. Just having a good brand doesn't mean it's idiot proof (see: Transformers, Crystal Skull, etc)

edit: though to his credit, at least it wasn't as bad as Woo's effort at the series.

A lot.
And Mission Impossible films are SUPPOSED to be very complicated as the original series was the exact same way. Stop paying attention and you lost the whole show.

Well it's no Final Frontier as far as bad movies go, but man that movie is painful to watch in my opinion. I actually watched it again recently and couldn't get past the age and Kim Cattrall.

Maybe I'm wrong on MI3 (I seem to remember people hating that movie, but perhaps I'm misremembering), but I still just am not confident. At least it isn't Michael Bay, I guess.

edit: I'm really more worried about the writers than Abrams. He can make it look pretty, but a shitty script is a shitty script. Maybe I'm just bitter about the Clonus ripoff, that movie is groundbreaking, but I don't trust these guys to not shit on another successful brand.

I wish they'd do a movie based on the Bad Blood comic. One of the coolest aspects of the Predator universe is their morals, and one Predator hunting a rogue is pretty badass.

Just saw The Spirit. I never read or even heard of the comic prior to this movie so I have no idea what it was about. The movie however, was pretty crappy. I liked the cinematography and certain scenes but not much more than that. The plot was pretty lame. Sam Jackson was the wrong choice. I like him as an actor but I hate how he keeps popping up in comic book movies. I did not enjoy his performance in the slightest. The conversations and fight scenes between him and the Spirit were dull and very corny. The ladies are gorgeous, especially the lovely Eva Mendez but the film just didn't feel like it had any real substance to it. Sin City is superior.
