Hey all-

Anyone using XP out there?

Anyone experienced those ads they send you whenever you are connected to the Internet? Sometimes you'll have a few dozen if you've accidentally left your connection to the Web active? /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

Anyone else, like me, play games online? Anyone been disconnected from their game when the computer switches out to display these ads? Anyone lost points or rating because of it? /forums/images/icons/ooo.gif

Ever wanted to reach over the Interned and strangle the little f*cks who program those ads? /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Well, this is the solution. This guy (http://www.updatexp.com/messenger_service_spam.html) has done everyone a great public service, although I wouldn't recommend doing what he suggests at work. It might screw your (work) computer up. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

We owe this man a debt of gratitude- he's doing free what the software companies are charging 25 bucks for.

Check it out- I hope it helps. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

You can also buy a Firewall Router. That took care of our problem! :-)

only problem I have with XP is my monitor sometimes will go off and the monitor light will flash as if its on with no power to the PC's graphic card, I thought it might be overheating but oonce it crashed a minute after booting up (and had been off all night. Only way I can fix it is turning off power and this causes things like downloads and the such to vanish since they were being written.

My modem has a built in firewall. Good for stopping these spam messages, bad for internet usage(hosting games is hell).

Good god, I hate those things. Sometimes my wife will close the browser and walk away from the computer. I'll show up three hours later and have to close 25 pop-up windows before I can do anything else. I'll check out your link, and thanks in advance if the solution works!

Wow! Just clicking on one thing stopped all of those stupid messages. Thanks for the info. I wouldn't recommend that fix for anyone who is on a network, but if you just have one computer hooked to the internet, it is good.
