View Full Version : Goodbye Great Pumpkin

I'm 33, and I've just realized that this is the first year of my life in which I don't feel like I'm missing the MASH season finale just because I'm not dressing up for halloween and going out to a bar. I don't need all of the digits from one hand to count the times I have dressed up since childhood, but I know the times I have, it's been sort of an empty experience. Possibly because my costumes were lame, and brought random moments of delight, hilarity and/or confusion to the other drunks. Possibly because costumes are generally hot and sweaty, or uncomfortable in another way because they are foreign objects on your body, not like what your body is used to having on it. And I never went in for the slutty nurse/housekeeper/waitress/insert any profession here that has always plagued the ladies' costume racks, but it occurs to me now that would have solved the first problem, if not the second.
Anyway, its Halloween, and I just realized I'm over it. I even noticed last night that the Great Pumpkin was going to be on, and I had plenty of time to get to my tv before it came on, not to mention the time to spare, and it didn't even really occur to me to make the effort.
So what do you suppose. The lamentable encroaching cynicism of experience coupled with an increased inability to find the joy, or an empowering moment of personal growth that has taught me to feel comfortable casting off the pressures of conformity?
Just a random holiday thought, and a new forum full of strangers I feel to urge to tell it to.
My feelings? Apathy.
I barely have the will/desire to click "submit"...

Two certainties of life have struck me:
- when veiled sarcasm is your communication tool of choice, you need more than just a dog around the house, and
- talking ennui with Eeyores will probably get you nowhere
Emoticon ... wait for it ... ;)

Halloween is a nuisance over here. Luckily, last year it rained so not many yobs ventured out. Just three this year at the moment, so all good so far.

Wow, I'm glad I don't have such a strong sense of nostalgia about Halloween. Then again, I never did care for the costuming up and prancing about thing. Which is good for me I guess, because instead of spending Halloween feeling like this:

I end up spending Halloween laughing at other people's misery.

It's so much better that way.

Never mind. It's TooLowForZero's sister. Or, just his not-so-bull-dyke self. Did she call you a jackass, and tell you to quit fuckin' Fido?

I was just voicing my opinion towards Halloween (and pretty much everything else) these days -sans sarcasm- and she said something about kicking puppies or mule-fucking. I dunno. I didn't dwell on it too much as I am feeling quite lazy, depressed, and as I said before, apathetic.

Far be it from me to dog out someone for being someone else(oh..my first times here  ), but, Ms. Posture has the same thought process and writing styles as Zero. I sound like the same guys that called me out as Darth Jaundice. Forgive me, if I'm wrong. Screw you, if I'm right.

Man, don't I wish! I don't start my vacation until the 16th and she doesn't get one until the 24th. I'm planning a road trip sometime in the spring (gonna try to ride the bike back to Texas... maybe)
As far as Posture is concerned? I wish we could still see the IP...
Is it bad that I'm ignoring the little gobblins and ghouls knocking on my door?
I never turned the porch light on. You'd think they'd get the hint...

Man, I used to live in San Marcos- spent a lot of time 'round those parts growing up. Used to do a lot of hunting further out towards Rocksprings, lot of tubing in Concan. LOT of drinking in Austin. I would absolutely meet you for a beer.

Jen can hand out candy when she gets home. I'm on the last day of a lame-ass vacation.

I was pretending to be Hugh Hefner all weekend, but without the hot playmates, the giant mansion, and tons of money. Basically it was just me in my pajamas...

Oops! I wrote something that pissed someone off, or you think I am someone else who you don't like much posing. I guess if you need me to prove I'm not the dude you don't like, I can, but I don't really see the point as I think I am now a new dudette that you don't seem to care for very much either.
Amyway, I'm just this girl who recently started listening to smodcasts at work, and who logged on to this website and apparently made the regulars mad. No offense meant with the eyeore comment, I just meant ... I don't know what I meant. I guess I meant that sad sh**heads like me should probably talk to people who dress up like care bears and rainbows for halloween if I want to rediscover the childlike wonder of the holiday, but I wasn't trying to insult you.
So ... this has been really fun.

If you don't mind going a little bit out of your way (http://www.communitywalk.com/birmingham_whataburger_locations/map/7364#0003;Fa) you could get your Whataburger fix before you hit the great state of Texas....

So ... this has been really fun.Sorry, ma'am. I was just a little pissy that I couldn't fit into my Pink Power Ranger costume this year. Stick around, and see how it goes. ;)

This thread wins the downer award, hands, er...down.
My Halloween was fun.
I got to watch some cool movies, got drunk on cheap plonk and fell asleep on the floor of my friend's apartment listening to Radiohead.
It could be worse. :D

Halloween in Hong Kong is actually alright. We go to a neighborhood that is all set up for trickertreat called headland drive in Discovery Bay. They host a big party with a play for the kids in a big plaza area. Adults can grab a beverage, hang out with their friends and watch the kids have a good time. Adults don't necessary wear a costume but, no one is bothered either way. It's an excuse for a pretty damn good block party of sorts. After 9 p.m. local bands start to play.

Let me know before you go, and we'll meet for a Hamburger.
