Look at the way videogame systems are heading. All this online gaming bullshit has gotta stop! Eventually, game systems will just be really pointless. Why not just buy a computer? If I wanted online gaming, I'd buy acomputer. I bought my PS2 because I want to sit and hang out with friends and kill people in Timespliters or run over people in Vice City. I don't want to play Socum against some jerk off half way around the world. Online gaming must be stopped, whos with me?

well, im not with you for a number of reasons... I think that online gaming is a great idea.. plus, if it wasnt, then why does the idea sell...

A computer is too expensive just to buy for online gaming... Your game systems are cheaper than computers, and can be just as fun.. Also, you could play with your friends without them having to be present at your house or vice versa.. you have much more freedom that way...

Why fuss over nothing?

While you do raise a good point in a way, I am still stuck in my way of thinking. Why improve on something that is already beautiful. Remember that old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? I think this is the perfect situation for that to be used.

I could not disagree with you more. Online play is an option. If you don't want to play online then you don't have to play online.

The real importance of online gaming is that it leaves the opportunity for LAN, which is the best kind of multiplayer. Just look at Halo, which alone is a slightly above average shooter. I still prefer Perfect Dark or TimeSplitters 2, but Halo's LAN option is a party waiting to happen. Sitting next to your opponents is the only thing that makes gaming social.

What I am against is the do-it-all consoles that they want in the future. DVD players, hard drives, Tivos, mp3 players, etc. I really don't need another DVD player, my computer has a hard drive, and if I want a Tivo, I'll buy one, thank you. Do they really expect everyone to shell out $450 for the next console? I'm with Nintendo and their 'less is more' consoles. GameCube may be slacking on software now but at least it debuted at $200 and quickly dropped to $150. Why pay for all these extra features that we already have?

FYI: I'm working at a summercamp now so I won't be posting all that often for the next month. Don't worry, come August 12th I'll get back into the habit of being an internet junkie.

actually sitting next to each other is a bit dull when you can monitor their movements. I prefer to earn a kill via my talent, like the time I pulled out snipe rifle in UT, zommed in a bit, noticed my friend looking at me down his sniper scope and blam, took my head off. I dont really like multiplayer much since its an excuse to throw away plots in games, but its okay. I prefer games that incorporate both styles of play. I've even heard RE online is getting a single player mode made now

Ech... I can't relate since I'm not a RPG fan. I actually believe that most plots in games are a way to break up monotony in the gameplay design. Just look at Final Fantasy, without a story it would be some walking and navigating through menus. Games that can hold up without a plot need variety and a serious fun factor. That's what makes the Mario series so insanely popular.

As for looking at the same screen, its cheap, yeah, but it really tests your reflexes, since speed will help you while stealth won't. That's the great thing about LAN, seperate screens. We usually use 2 TVs and play team games, 3 on 3.

It all doesn't matter as long as we all remember gaming systems are around for the use of killing all of the people you can find.

I've got a PS2 and an XBOX. No GAYCUBE for me, thank you. I wouldn't piss on one to put out a fire! /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

HERE! HERE!
I'm getting tired of this Online Capability crap! You know they are making a Resident Evil Game that is in total 3D and has 7+ characters you can play as that go through different paths and have their own stories each. Sounds Awesome but you can only play it ONLINE!!!! Thats a horrible idea! Many people online just want to screw the other person. Take for example your partner will say that they cleared one room and its all safe. You go in the room and there are 18 zombies with hords of lickers on the ceilings. See my point!

Not with you bud. Consoles are great because they are designed to play games and not much more. You don't have to worry about having enough ram, inadequate gfx card, installation, spyware or viruses.

There are a few games for the computer that I'd like to try out, however I know I can't because my they won't function on my pc. I'd probably have to tweak everything down and still it would probably lag. On my 360, I know any game I purchase is playable right away without any extra fuss. Besides, Online play is an EXTRA feature that these games offer to give them longevity and also make those 65 bucks worth it. Granted playing with some people can be very annoying, especially when they are little kids screaming into the mic with one sole purpose: to drive you nuts. Luckily there is a Mute feature.

Ultimately, online play is a cool bonus to have and you don't have to indulge unless that's your thing. I personally enjoy battling humans to computers as humans can be very cunning and unpredictable offering more interesting experiences.

Pssst... Just a heads up, hyphnip hasn't been around in four years...

Couldn't you find an older topic to reply to?

Competitive online play still doesn't work for me either. There's always some insecure 15 year-old with more time and determination than brains who kicks my ass and then tells me about it with all the social grace of a very drunk hillbilly orangutan.

My fragile little ego just can't handle it.

That seems to be what's happened to me. I'm setting up an account and all it took was someone coming over with his laptop one starry starry night.
