Spoiler Alerts.
Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoiler_%28media%29
The term spoiler is often associated with specialist internet sites and in newsgroup postings. Usually, the spoiling information is preceded by a warning ('SPOILER!'), or the spoiler itself has to be highlighted before it can be visibly read on the web page by those keen for details and not fazed at the thought of such potentially plot-revealing information. Occasionally, these warnings are omitted, accidentally or deliberately (see below), and some unwitting readers have had films, books, television programmes and other works that they were looking forward to experiencing spoiled.

So lets set some ground Rules I think most are common sense

1.Dont post the Spoiler in the Title of the Thread (like "Harry Potter Dies!")
2. Alert People that a SPOILER is coming up, in the thread title, in the body of the post and always before the spoiler.
3. Put a Spoiler Alert on anything that has just been released, about to be released, or gives away information about the movie (even a trailer for a movie could be considered a spoiler if it gives away alot)
4. If its a TV show and they have photos or videos from an upcoming season (like on Jay Leno he will show a clip from a coming episode for the new season) and the season has not started yet, thats a spoiler even if it gives away little or you gain any NEW unconfirmed information)
5. (I leave it up to the next poster)

Larry Wachowski is now Lana Wachowski. Not really a spoiler, but it was on my mind.

I'm sure the veterans on the board know about the "Spoiler" courtesy.

There was really no need to post this.

So if we comment on the commerical for a show coming up the following week, is that a spoiler? I'm all for marking stuff that is new not widely released information and clips as spoilers, but if it's airing on TV including the clips shown on talk shows, I don't think that should be considered spoilers. I think that is going a bit overboard. If you are that paranoid, then you shouldn't even go in a thread called that.

Lets say someone is supposed to die on Lost but we arent sure who. Then JJ Abrams is on Leno. JJ shows a clip from the next episode of lost. The clip he shows has everyone BUT the FAT GUY. THEN you post a thread with the JJ Jay Interview on youtube because he mentions Cloverfield in the interview, you should post a SPOILER Alert and mention that thier are Lost Spoilers.

I've had problems or seen problems on other boards (and this one) when it comes to spoilers. I say we should have some ground rules. Or if you can find a website that gives us a good break down then post that. I looked I couldnt find it, so I tried to make my own.

The JJ example is a pretty poor one because they would never do something like that. Lost is so over cautious about that it's rediculous. These are the people that did an interview with TV Guide talking about how important a character was going to be in season 2 just so when they they died season one it would be more dramatic.

No, but it seems that "vets" are the only ones posting daily. And that makes about 99.9 percent of QSE's population.

I have you back on spoilers in general. I just think that you are being a bit hypercritical on what is and isn't a spoiler. What I posted in the office thread was a teaser from the show. It wasn't leaked footage by anymeans. If they are promoting it as such, I can't see how that is a spoiler. Spoilers are inside information from people who are in the know. How can it be a spoiler if NBC is airing on the internet and on TV? I don't think commericals are spoilers.

I think a better discussion is how to mark spoilers. Should there be space between the word spoiler and the actual spoiler? Should it be all caps? In bold? Should it be marked when it starts and stops?

I think this is a good idea, now when someone posts a spoiler we can slap the nose of that person in this thread.

As in FFVII *spoiler* - Aeris Dies, killed by Sephiroth

If it does not want to be know by the person reading they can obviously skip the information.

If this is in response to what Fanny posted in the office thread, your out of your freaking mind.

How can an officially released trailer or commercial be considered spoiling anything? 20 seconds into that clip you could tell it was new; why would you continue to watch if you didn't want any new info?

Better not watch the season premiere, it might have some more spoilers for you. ;)

Definitely. I was reading The Office thread before this and mark just ruined BSG for me, just as I had gotten hold of season 3 too.

Well I saw a commerical on Sci Fi Channel that said the same thing, but that doesnt count as a Spoiler, so.....
