View Full Version : Take the Runningbacks to the Stands and slap they Mommas!
It begins tonight, the greatest time of year. College Football Season. the slates are clean, everyone is undefeated, until tomorrow that is, when either the Bayou Beagles of Louisiana State or the snarling Bulldawgs from the aptly named Starkville will have finished a hard fought contest. LSU is looking to win the mythical national championship this year, but can Sly Croom do what he's done to both Florida and Alabama in past years and upset a much higher ranked team? We'll find out at 7 pm Central tonight.
Leonard's Loser: Mississippi State

The wife and I decided to skip the first UT home game($65 a ticket a bit steep ), even though the daughter will be "crossing the T" in the "Script Texas" part of the halftime show  . So, a buddy of mine invites me to the Baylor/TCU game Saturday(still $50 a ticket, but just me going). My wife's Dad calls today and tells her he'll buy her and her brother tix to the Longhorn opener. I'm travelling the wrong way on I-35 this Saturday.:( But the game shouldn't be near the bloodletting that Arkansas State will get from the Horns.
I surprised at the trouble Guy Morris is having fielding a good team at Baylor. He did such a good job at Kentucky, and the talent is better in Texas...
I'll be in Tuscaloosa for the season opener ($40). I hope UA doesn't get wind of what Texas is charging for tickets or it will price me out of going.

I know I've been living in Tennessee too long when on vacation in Ely, Minnesota, my mother pointed out someone wearing what she thought was a University of Tennessee hat and said, "Hey, there's someone from your neck of the woods."
However I could tell by just by the darker, burnt orange color that it was a Long Horns hat.
And being the instigator I am, it was all I could do to not shout, "Gig 'em Aggies!"

That was one of the best games ever. Of course, if it happened to Carolina, it would be one of the worst games ever.
Listening to the radio broadcasters calling the final play is great. That radio call almost up there with Bobby Thompson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World."

I totally thought the Dawgs were going to beat those Cocks, too. The Old Ball Coach had his Cocks holding firm.
I feel for Michigan fans. I've been there, all to often in fact. Michigan fans are going to start hearing about how shitty their team is now, and how washed up they are. When wagon will get appreciably lighter now with all the fairweather fans jumping off it. Expect Michigan to start to be looked at like dog crap on the bottom of an expensive shoe until the coaching search starts in earnest. (and even then it will be catagorized as a shitty job that no-one in their right mind would want)
As far as Notre Dame goes, It's always good to see them lose. How is that Multi Million Dollar contract for a first time head coach working out?

I'm not surprised the Cocks won, nor was I surprised it was a close game. Georgia is always a little over rated. And except for last year being 18-0 for UGA, the USC/Georgia game is always a 9-6 slugfest.
With the Cocks ranked 17th in one poll, I'm afraid they're the ones who are overrated now, and I want to pretend that we aren't playing LSU in two weeks.
Am I just learning after all these years that you are a South Carolina Man?
well then

I do think that 17 is a little too high for USC, but that will all even out in the end.
I forgot to mention it in my first post, but it was fun to watch Auburn melt down to South Florida on Saturday, even with 5 turnovers they should have won that game. That kicker for USF couldn't hit one to save his life, until it counted, anyway.

Huh-huh-huh.
Just getting my voice back from what has to be the greatest weekend ever.
To recap:
http://tidedruid.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/tubby-croom.jpg
Auburn loses to Mississippi State's third string QB. Brandon Cox clearly throws a great pass, as long as you're a defensive back or Safety.
http://www.gump4heisman.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/09/11/superbad_ndmich.jpg
the Superbad Bowl goes to the Wolverines, in a landslide. My hate for Notre Dame runs deep, so it's always good to see them humilitated. I'll bet the powers at the school are thinking twice about giving a "lifetime" contract to a guy with no previous head coaching experence. Hey Charlie, quite promoting books during the summer and try recruiting a little bit.
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w52/mikerrie/PhilGIvesBirth.jpg
I didn't get to see any of this game, but Florida must have murdered Tennessee this weekend. Tim "the Baby Rhino" Tebow looks like the real deal. Glad we don't play them this year.
http://i9.tinypic.com/4lj3ki8.jpg
The Alabama/Arkansas game this past weekend was one of the greatest games i've ever seen in person, up there with Alabama/Georgia in 1994.
Bama comes out and thru luck and good D forces some Hog turnovers, and the Tide is up 21 to nothing before you know it. Things settle down for a little while and Alabama takes a 31 to 10 lead into the half.
Turnovers in the 3rd Quarter get Arkansas back into the game, and on the back of the best running back i've ever seen take a 38 to 34 lead with 5 or so left in the game.
A few words about Darrin McFadden. This is the best Runningback i've ever seen in person. I'm too young to remember Bo Jackson and Hershel Walker, but i've seen Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams and Shaun Alexander, and McFadden has them all beat. The guy gets stronger as the game goes on. It's like he's got on some D&D Armour on instead of Shoulderpads, that pull stamina away from his attackers and an it to his own.
http://www.tidesports.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Site=TL&Date=20070915&Category=TSFOOTBALL&ArtNo=915012&Ref=PH&Params=Itemnr=12
With 4 minutes left, Saban elects to kick a fieldgoal after consulting with his Defense and getting assurances that they will do something that they haven't done in the entire second half, and that's hold the Hog's to 3 and out. Everyone in the stands thought he was a crazy, play for the tie, but The D came thru, and Alabama drove the field with just over a minute left. With 14 seconds on the clock, John Parker Wilson (you may remember his brother and the QB from the MTV show "2-a-Days") hit Matt Caddell in the the endzone for the goahead score.
I must have hugged every single person with in 3 row radius. It was a great day, capped off by a glorious night. I'm still a little horse.

Good gravy, what a bloodbath in the Top 10 this week. I went to the UT vs. Kansas State game this weekend. They should have never let this guy go back into the game after he got his bell rung.

He was throwing up(the ball for grabs and, his guts) in the 4th quarter. I don't think the kid could see straight. Ugly. :(
I got so drunk that i blacked out after the Alabama loss. I woke up Sunday morning to find a pile of debris in front of the TV where apparently i thru a bunch of stuff when Auburn kicked that fieldgoal to beat Florida. I've been hungover for like two days now.

The wife and I decided(a little late) that we should have gone to this one since it will be the last one at the Cotton Bowl, if I'm not mistaken. I don't think I would have cared for getting through Fair Park today, but once in the seats, I would have loved it. Even if the Horns get pummeled. :(

I was happy to see my Illini bitch slap #5 ranked Wisconsin yesterday. It allowed me to do a little shit talking until tonight when the Bear Packer game may take away all of my mirth.
Especially since my dear Chicago Cubs have fallen apart at the seams.
I will say that there were some VERY angry Texas fans around us last night. Angry to the point that they were fights all night at the bar my friend owns. I didn't dodge the bullet as well as I planned by staying in Fort Worth.

Ummm, Yummy. Your tears taste delicious.
Alabama 41, Tennessee 17 in the most complete game Bama's put together to date. Next up LSU. And speaking of LSU, the Hat is luckier than a 2 peckered billygoat. Throwing that touchdown pass with 8 sec left when you could have gone for the safer fieldgoal shows that man has stones of iron.
