I was going to Pick up "Big Love"
But...its 88 Dollars!!!! For 12 Episodes. I could pick up all the Red Dwarf Seasons at Best Buy for that.

Then I started looking around, all HBO Shows are over 60 dollars.

WHY?
THey have no special features and most arent longer than 15 episodes.

Is this thier way of making us pick up HBO?

All HBO shows are that expensive. I think it has something to do with the fact that they don't have commercial sponsors so they need to make the money somewhere. Whereas other shows have been paid for by the commericals, so any DVD sales are just bonus for them.

HBO DVDs are expensive because people pay that much for them. Kinda like how Criterion charges a fortune for their titles. $40 for Robinson Crusoe on Mars? But as long as they sell X number of units at that price point, they'll keep on with that SRP.

last DVD bought - Odd Couple Season 2. Brett Somers acts!

What you dont have the FX Channel on your cable plan? Because that and Xmen 2 plays nonstop.

"Number 23 involves an obsession with the 23 Enigma, an esoteric belief that all incidents and events are directly connected to the number 23." Other than that, I don't know.

I don't care much for Joel Schumacher’s films. Except Falling Down and Lost Boys.

Sometimes...over here...movies without much merit, or substance, are huge hits. Thank you MTV generation. Sometimes explosions and pretty people win out over content, writing and acting ability, especially computer generated explosions and completely impossible stuntwork. Enter Transporter. For further reference, see also: The Fast and the Furious, Too Fast Too Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast and the Furious IV: Put Some Good Looking People in Really Ugly Cars Painted in Rediculous Color Schemes, Add A Fish Out of Water Story Line...ok...rant over. I really hate those movies.

I liked the first transporter movie purely for the action sequences. The car chase in the opening was awesome. And all the hand to hand stuff was all him. No stunt people. He trained with Jet Li. Sure it had plotholes you could drive semi-trucks through (almost litterally). In other words, I watch this movie for the umm...articles.

Man Bites Dog was the last DVD I bought,

It's a quality film way ahead of it's time made in 1992 shown first of all at the Cannes film festival. Man Bites Dog is the Spinal Tap of serial-killer films, posing as a documentary when in fact it's an elaborate and ingenious hoax.

Quality funny blood fest.........

And if I was speaking to a biblical figure, I think Satan is probably more in tune with the producers of the Fast and the Furious franchise. What with owning their souls in exchange for their success and all...

They did really add to the experience, but then again, so did the almost empty theater I was in (the other people there were actually respectful fans instead of the regular children and morons) that cheered at the perfect spots. I just picked up Planet Terror on DVD for $10 at the local rental store, and I decided a while back I can live without all of the trailers except for Machete (which is thankfully on the Planet Terror disc, or so I've read). I wouldn't mind to see Werewolf Women of the SS or any of the other trailers again, but I'll survive just fine without them. I've decided not to buy the inevitable Grindhouse set, either, since Planet Terror was the only one of the two I would watch multiple times. I've lived this long without the ill-released Sin City special edition (which I never thought I could be without after I saw it released), so I think I could pretty much ignore a full Grindhouse release.

I keep hearing the trailers were the best part of the experience - exactly how many were there? Were they 30 second teasers, or full 3 min advertisements?

They weren't, in my opinion. In fact, I didn't even really like a couple of them. They were definitely longer than 30 seconds, but they weren't really long. I'd estimate around one to three minutes, depending on the trailer.

Edit: The trailers weren't the best part, the experience itself was the best part. Of the movies, Planet Terror was vastly superior.

For me, the trailers were just the cherry on top of the blood soaked sundae. Sure, they only accounted for 1% of the screentime, but the fact they were there is what makes the Grindhouse experience. Yeah, the double feature is great in and of itself, but those trailers just add a little bit extra. I suppose it depends on your sense of humor, but "Don't" left me in stitches, and the rest of them were all pretty hysterical.

I agree with your statement here. What I was saying was that I honestly can't understand someone saying they're the best part of the experience. They really help the experience, but I don't think there is a single "best" part, and if there were, it wouldn't be the trailers.

Just bought the box set of 'Band Of Brothers'.

I'd not seen it before but was recommended it by a friend.
It blew me away from start to finish, the pure heroics and guts of these guys is incredible. The bonus DVD shows the remaining members of 'Easy Company' being interviewed, they tell their story from parachuting into Normandy to storming Hitlers secret hide out.

100% recommended everybody watching this.

I couldn't recommend Band of Brothers any more than I have in the past- a truly amazing experience.

My senior year of college we did a show that was the true story of 12 WWII veterans from Iowa. We were lucky enough that 11 of them were still living and they came and told us their stories in person as research for the show. It was phenomenal. Whenever they were in the audience, we brought them on stage at the end of the show and acknowledged them. It was the most moving public experience that I have ever been lucky enough to be a part of. Their stories were all so spectacular to us, and just part of their lives to them. They were true heroes.

Sorry, a little off topic...I guess what I really meant was...Band of Brothers should be a required viewing for history classes across the country...as well as across the pond (don't want to exclude our European friends from the experience).

I'd rather shave my sack than watch that guff again.

It wasn't "movie of the year" or anything, but a fun little film. I liked it because not all flicks have to be the best ever made. I understand where people took issue with changes made from the short story, but you'll have that in every adaptation. Plus even though the source material was creepy as hell, not a lot happens, so they had to add a subplot and shit. Word.

<Edit>
Also...just purchased Live Free or Die Hard. Wow. I can't imagine even considering watching the original theatrical release version. I skipped right to the unrated version and I was very happy with the film. All of the reviews that I read said that John McClane was missing his step, had softened up, not enough language, not enough violence. They fixed all of that :) Hopefully the studio learned a lesson from this debacle of trying to broaden their audience by watering down their film...or as I like to call it, the "Get Shorty/Be Cool Effect".

Disc 2 - Documentary - Dangerous Days: Making of Blade Runner - A feature-length documentary about the film including viewpoints and insights from the cast and crew. Included are details on every stage of production of the film including special effects, casting, and even the film's literary roots and its place in the sci-fi genre.

I scored yesterday/today. A local game store, that also sells used DVD's, had a special... Buy 2 get 2 free.

So I bought

"In Living Color (season 1)" - $19.99
"Old School" - $9.99
"Buffy The Vampire Slayer" (the movie) - $7.99
"Mazes and Monsters" (with Tom Hanks) - $1.99!!!

When I got home yesterday, I noticed that the wrong disc was in Old School, so I called. They said they could replace it, no prob, with a reciept. I go there today, and it turns out that they don't actually have the disc that was supposed to be in it. So they gave me a cash refund.

I bought 1 and got 2 free!!

Still, Mazes and Monsters was a killer find for 2 bucks.

Is it me, or is anyone else pissed that quite a few hi-def movies are still coming letterboxed? Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer letterbox over a traditional full frame, but 16:9 is the perfect marriage. You still get a good portion of the environment surrounding the focal point of the frame, plus you get full utilization of your HD TV's screen.

I deffinitely see where youre coming from. Im not a fan of letterbox. I just recently bought The Fifth Element on blu-ray and would much rather 16:9. Same with the Die Hard I bought. Of course the settings could be wrong on my end. But anywho. The last DVD I bought was Rob Zombies Halloween/Seinfeld Volume 1. I was kind of disappointed wit the Seinfeld order. I mean, it was only $20 but still, I have two seasons there and its like 15 episodes.

It's wonderful. I recommend paying notice to the fact that after the pilot, they do not say Ralph's last name "Hinkley" again until season 2. There are some pretty terrible attempt to dub the places where they originally said it. Classic...classic.

It's probably because it's is a terrible, terrible movie that no one should watch for the sole reason of absolutely destroying the once-held view I had of the show (being that it treated the characters with a certain degree of respect). I will never watch that show or movie again. And I'm half-serious about it.

But, if you like your shows with some moral teaching, magic demonstrations and arts & crafts know how along with some spacey teenagers, then you should buy:

Decided to pick up this rock doc:
http://noted.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/10/31/tompetty_2.jpg

For $30 you get the 4 hour documentary, plus a 2 hour concert film, plus a bonus CD full of rarities from the film. I've only watched the first hour of the doc so far, but Petty has a great story to tell, it's one of the great American music origin stories, made better by the fact that Petty hasn't destroyed his mind with drugs and can remember so many funny little details and anecdotes.

1. Slap Shot - 25th Anniversary Edition
2. Dreamland - Real and "other" versions about Area 51
3. Blade Trinity - Unrated Version
4. Stuck On You
5. Doomsday Gun - A sort of docudrama about a big a**ed Cannon in Iraq
6. Tai Chi: Innerwave - Exercises and meditation

On a different note, High Anxiety and Young Frankenstein were on the tube, back to back today. I do love me a good Brooks flick, and still never get tired of Blazing Saddles.

Well it was used for £2.50 and I had a huge credit note so I got "A Knights tale" which is a little camp but very fun and entertaining.
I also bought
Independance Day: SE
Replaced Burton's Batman with the 2 disc SE
True Lies
Enemy of the State: Unrated

I'm kind of in two minds whether to replace my Region 1 Sin City (recut) with the UK release that contains both cuts of the movie and comes in a much trendier tin case, but then I'd still be stuck with a quasi-obsolete version.

Our BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) give all films either a; U, PG, PG-13, 12, 12a, 15 or 18 certificate.

I was bit surprised that Voyage Home was a 15 certificate, only one away from an 18. I mean it contains no violence, sexual content, language 'double dumb-ass on you'(?) etc. I'm still a bit baffled.
