I have a pretty full summer of shows that I am planning on, I haven't seen a thread dedicated to this, so, share with the QSE crowd a live show that you were lucky enough to catch recently.
Artist, venue, songs, attendance, people you were with, crazy people in the crowd, pics, etc. are all fair game.
To start off:
I just saw Modest Mouse with Band of Horses at Red Rocks. Awesome show, Band of Horses was good, first time seeing them and now a fan, Modest Mouse has yet to disappoint. Halfway through the show, Isaac Brock stops and starts telling a story about how Johnny Marr (I think, it was hard to see) has this amazing guitar pick made from an asteroid that fell in Africa. He goes on to say that the person who initially smuggled the asteroid from Africa is now in prison for exporting national treasures, 80 years and a $5,000 fine. He was bothered by the fact that it was such a huge prison sentence and such a small fine, did they amortize the fine over the length of the stay, did he have to pay it before or after, was there interest, etc.
I look over to my friend and we are both getting a little weirded out, because that pick is worth this guy's life and MM seems a little flippant about the whole thing. Then Brock says something to the effect that, he was kidding about the whole asteroid thing, the pick is really made out of a mammoth tusk. F'n awesome.

Just saw Marilyn Manson and Slayer. Amazingly done. HOT goth girls all over (most with a fat ugly cock-blocking friend). Slayer played better but manson has the people going more crazy surprisingly.

Since I had a gig, I had to give up my free ticket to Ozzfest in San Antonio Saturday. My wife went with some friends. She heard it was a good time. She and two others got escorted out early in the day. Something about passing the dutchie to the left.

I saw Rush last night. Every time I go to one of their shows I'm impressed with the production value. The film snippets (especially the South Park one, of course, which is available on youtube) were nice interludes and comic relief. My only complaint, as always with big shows, is that more than 3/4 of the audience appears to be there to make a social appearance and for the most part just stand or sit there looking bored until the one song they know from the radio gets played. But I had a great time and I guess that's all that matters to me.
I wish some my favorite bands weren't quite so popular so I could go see them in a smallish club atmoshpere. To that end I saw The Young Dubliners (who are no longer young and mostly aren't from Dublin) in a little club up in Park City on Friday and had an amazing time at that show as well.

I saw Rush last night. Every time I go to one of their shows I'm impressed with the production value. No doubt. Always a great show. I'll be in Dallas to see them this weekend. A bit dissappointed with what I've seen of the set list. Not enough pre-Moving Pictures for an old-timer like me. I was happy to see that after the intermission they played quite a few tunes from the new album. Oh, and "Witch Hunt". AWESOME!!! No "Xanadu" or "2112", though. But, I think I'll live through it. ;)

But, I think I'll live through it. ;) You'll just have to suck it up I guess. I didn't check the set list in advance so the set list was full of surprises. Passage To Bangkok was a nice one of those.

Saw Rush Tuesday(my daughter was getting into town last Sat., so we changed venues). Took my son. His first time to see Peart. Very special for a drummer. Light show and sound were spot on. "Natural Science" was probably my fav of the nite. If you get a chance, go see 'em. You won't be disappointed.

Don't have much excitement concert-wise 'round here, but I am going to a Kiss Convention soon. Really looking forward to it since it's my first and Bruce Kulick's going to be there.

I don't know if anyone cares (maybe By-Tor, but that's probably it), but I just got back from my first Kiss Expo, and it was pretty awesome. Bought $40 worth of merch (5 records- Gene, Paul, and Ace solos, Dressed to Kill, and Destroyer, an Ace Frehley Dressed to Kill cartoony statue, a Bruce Kulick CD, and a 4 piece Kiss statue) and got to see Bruce Kulick perform live, plus they had a great band covering some Kiss rarities.

He's my fave member too, but I like quite a bit of their stuff after he left (or got fired, whatever). I've been listening to a shitload of Domino and Unholy since I saw Bruce do them live. I also bought Dressed to Kill just so I could get Love Her All I Can (now one of my favorite songs).

most of my favourite stories with my friends come from really small shows. like ladyhawk, if you haven't heard of them i suggest checking them out. great band from vancouver. but either which way, seeing alot of big name bands have been incredible as well.
i went to sasquatch this year and it was such an overload. call me a big fucking nerd, but the highlight was seeing the presidents of the united states of america... and meeting them. haha, my 90s youth was going apeshit the entire time. otherwise hearing modest mouse play "trailer trash" was definitely another highlight, as well as seeing the cure.
broken social scene. good god, that show was phenomenal. outdoors. huge crowd. and feist played most of the set with them too. she jammed on one of the drum kits and everything!
i had the pleasure of also seeing elton john with my mom! after announcing he hadn't performed this song live in many years he played "someone saved my life tonight", and needless to say it was fantastic! hands down my favourtie part of the show!
i'm sure all the canadians on the forum can agree the tragically hip put on a stellar show. i had the great pleasure of seeing them last year in my relatively small home town. gord downie put down like no one i had seen before. he actually stopped the show and brought some kids to the side of the stage to watch because they were being pushed around alot in the crowd!!
anyways... i should just stop now or i never will, haha.

We were in the pub for the warm up acts so I didn't catch anyone else.
What I did get was PUSA invited up a girl they met in a bar before the show to sing one of the songs for them. They then invited up two people from the front on to the stage to show off the new t-shirts they were wearing from the merch shop and then they invited this couple on stage for a song and the guy proceeds to propose to her.
Not a bad night!

So far this year I have seen Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and Nine Inch Nails. The Pearl Jam concert was one of the best I have ever been to with NIN right behind it. NIN had a great light show and did some instrumentals that I liked. I am going to see NIN again in on the 30th and in Oct I am going to see the Who which I can't wait for.

i'm going to see radiohead in 8 days! it should be a great show, especially since their new album, "in rainbows", is amazing! i didn't dig it at first, but my tattoo artist convinced me to give it another shot. listening to it with headphones is a must!
i also just scored tickets to tv on the radio, as well as iron and wine!

quite similar to when i saw ani difranco. mat good opened for her, and it poured during his whole acoustic set [even during "apparitions". needless to say that was beautiful]. though once ani came on stage, the clouds parted and the sun came out.

Actually...no...that would be coincidental.
...Unless the first song they sang was about hating rainbows and how they'd quit playing if a rainbow had the guts to show it's rotten face. THEN it would be ironic...but only if they kept playing. ;)

so i just woke up after a long night at the radiohead concert.
it started raining right after the liars finished their set, and didn't stop until this morning. i looked like a drowned rat after the show, but it was entirely worth it.
i really was not expecting to hear my favourite song, "talk show host", but they played it early in the set and was the first they kinda jammed out on. they also played almost their entire new album, which i had no complaints about. i really love in rainbows and it quickly became one of my favourite radiohead albums.
some other highlights were when they played "karma police", "just", "planet telex", "exit music for a film" and when they finished with "paranoid android".
tom yorke actually asked the crowd to cheer for which song they'd like to hear more: "idioteque" or "paranoid android"... and it was pretty obvious which song would win.
the lights were fantastic too! they had these long ones that hung down almost like venetian blinds, haha. but they looked great from almost every angle.

i went to a small show this weekend. quite frankly, they're my favourite concerts to attend. they're just way more personal, and i almost always hear a new band i like.
this time my very good friends from alberta [well... including my ex-boyfriend] played a show here in vancouver. it was a gong show and a half. i hadn't heard their set in almost a year, and they've gotten so much better! the band they were touring with were rad as well.

Does stand-up count as a concert? I don't want to start a new thread.
I went to see Doug Stanhope last night. I've been a fan of him for a while, and he did not disappoint. He slayed the whole crowd for 2 hours and 10 minutes, and he managed to alienate a few douche bags too.
He also called his terminally ill mother on stage, which he has been doing every night of his European tour. She's dying of emphysema, and he calls every night to find out if she's dead yet. She was a very funny lady. It's obvious where he got his irreverent attitude from.

Went to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in S.F.'s Golden Gate Park. The highlight for me was Elvis Costello. Here's a little pic of him and a local choir. He had Emmylou Harris up there too for a while. It all sounded great. We saw Iron & Wine just for a few minutes, but could not get close enough to really hear anything. Finally, we hung out a bit and watch Peggy Young hoping that her husband Neil would show up, but alas he never did. However, he will be at Bridge School. That's going to be a good couple days of music.

A have a few gigs in November.
I have Rancid on the 2nd, which should be good, have a photo pass, just need fix my camera. The lense is cracked, after lending it to a friend.
The Eastpack Antitode Tour on the 3rd. Its Flogging Molly, Skindred, Time Again and Street Dogs.
Sham 69 on the 16th, with another photo pass. Been wanting to see them for years. Should be good.
Less Than jake on the 19th, a bit of skanking for my pals birthday.
So come December and Christmas, by the looks of things, I'll be skint.

I went to the Bridge School Benefit concert on Sunday. Really really good on all counts except, as many reviewers have said, the excitement front. Regardless, the performances were flawless and I think that everyone who stuck around till the end would agree, Neil Young honestly and truly stole the show. His cover of The Beatles "A Day In The Life" was commanding.

i saw bob dylan a couple of weeks ago!
sadly, it was in a large arena and it was quite hard to understand him. though... a couple decades of wear and tear on top of his already unique singing probably didn't help either.
he played keyboard for most of it, and it was really great!
1. Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat (Bob on electric guitar)
2. The Times They Are A-Changin’ (Bob on harp)
3. Things Have Changed (Bob on keyboard)
4. Spirit On The Water (Bob on keyboard)
5. The Levee’s Gonna Break (Bob on keyboard)
6. Tangled Up In Blue (Bob on keyboard and harp)
7. Summer Days (Bob on keyboard)
8. Make You Feel My Love
9. It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) (Bob on keyboard)
10. Visions Of Johanna (Bob on keyboard)
11. ‘Til I Fell In Love With You (Bob on harp)
12. Desolation Row (Bob on keyboard)
13. Highway 61 Revisited (Bob on keyboard)
14. Nettie Moore (Bob on keyboard)
15. Thunder On The Mountain (Bob on keyboard)
(encore)
16. Like A Rolling Stone (Bob on keyboard)
17. All Along The Watchtower (Bob on keyboard) (oh... and THAT was a fucking awesome song to end with!)

I went to "Rock Band Live" last night. Normally I wouldn't have even known this show existed, much less gone, but my best friend loves Dashboard Confessional and they were playing this show, so we went.
The show was OK...Dashboard was good as were The Plain White T's...Panic at the Disco sucked...they seem to be one collective bag of douche...
But what really got me was the MC of the evening...he decided to name himself "ReNickulous" And then at one point he decided to explain what his name meant..."My name is Nick and my life is ridiculous" WTF?!?!?!?!? All these girls were screaming for him like he was freakin Elvis or something...
Anyway...just thought I would share that...

They were great. Got on stage to sing 'if the kids are united....'. A band that everyone needs to see live. The energy was immense.
Had Less Than Jake last night too, the place was bouncing. Got to stand on the Less Than Jake merch table and dance. And got free alcohol and shirt off Dave, the Merch guy.
Next gig, UK Subs on the 5th. Great band live. Still got 5 gigs before xmas, so noone in my family is to expect presents.

So, Carnegie Hall lives up to its reputation. Easily the best sounding venue I've been in. The first few strains from Andrew Bird's violin sent shivers through most of the crowd. He also brings to his show a custom set of horn speakers:
http://www.olympic.asso.fr/IMG/jpg/AndrewBird.jpg
I'm not sure what the science is behind these things, but they make a difference, I can assure you. Anyway, the show was great, Bird was clearly psyched to playing Carnegie, and played a mix of songs from old and new, sometimes jamming away with his whole band, sometimes just him and a loop machine. Often in the show, he'd be frantically switching between guitar, violin, xylophone, and headed to other microphones to record whistling or clapping loops. His custom stomp boxes he uses to set up loops and filters is so complex that he plays shows in his socks.
Also pretty amazing was his drummer, Martin Dosh, who played an opening set of his own material. Dosh also works with looping, and sets up some very interesting percussion heavy electronic arrangements, the kind of music that just slowly builds and builds until you find yourself enveloped in an entirely different sonic world. Amazing stuff.

Sounds awesome. Funnily enough, I was at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia last night, where they were advertising for an upcoming NIN/Jane show (despite the fact that it won't be played there).
Anyway, the Animal Collective concert I went to last night was simply mind blowing. Like bathing in soundwaves, it wasn't so much a bunch of songs or even a performance, it was both the band and crowd participating in an experience. Hell, I had my eyes closed for half the concert just so I could fully experience the amazing energy within the music. Also, there were so many joints discretely burning in the crowd that it was kind of impossible to not get a contact high.
Next concert on the schedule, Les Claypool at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, July 17th. I'm extremely pumped for that one.

there are 2 front rows, you are getting drenched in blood or molested by blood.
also, go to a restaurant called "melt" it's 2 blocks from the theater, the food is great and the bar is top notch.

I just realized I saw James Brown in concert. It wasn't a full and proper James Brown concert, it was one of the tribute concerts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_We_Stand:_What_More_Can_I_Give) after 9/11, but exciting nonetheless.

Just got back from the Les Claypool concert. In short: the best freaking concert I have ever seen! The guy is an entertainer with everything he does, from the crazy solos to the masks, even the way he struts and bounces around the stage.

I got to see Les with Prinus on the Antipop tour. It was one of the best live shows ever and I was front row right in front of Mr. Claypool himself. I kind of regret the front row thing, ended up getting crushed most of the night and getting kicked in the back of the head by crowd surfers.

Oddly enough, the venue I was at (Atlantic City) was only half full. I easily walked right to the front and center, so close that good ol' Les was kind enough to acknowledge some of my fanboy screaming and yelling. Of course for the encore, the bastard teased us all by playing a bar each of Jerry Was A Racecar Driver and My Name is Mud, before saying "Uh-oh, I seem to be going backwards in time..." But he wrapped with a killer rendition of D's Diner, so all was forgiven.

The Cure in Houston for the I don't-have-a-clue-how-many-times and it just keeps getting better. Say what you want about their music but you can't deny a band their dues when they sell shows out consistantly throughout their 25+ year career and yet the girls at the shows never seem to age :D
BTW - For those above me there - saw Primus for the second time two years or so ago - so damn good. Les was the guy who inspired me to put down the 6 string and pick up the Bass.

They do tend to put on a extremly long show - yet I'm always saddened when they leave the stage. A highlight for this show for me was that it was my GFs first Cure show even tho she loves the band dearly [She is 8 years younger than I - still legal mind you] and she got truely misty eyed which somehow endeared me more to the girl who doesn't like Chasy Amy or Jersey Girl.

After watching Theory from the lawn, a bunch of us went to the VIP lounge. It cost about $10 extra(some guy was strolling around looking for "cool" people to invite there). I was hanging out with a drummer from one of the second stage bands(forget which one ). He asked if I wanted to go backstage. So, I spent most of Godsmack's set, and half of the Crue's watching from sidestage. Shook hands with the singer and drummer from Godsmack as they exited the stage after their encore. Wow. I'm green with envy.
I saw them the first time back in 2006 and they were a lot smaller. I haven't seen them since they got some radio play so I don't know if they're a different band now, still good music but it always sucks when good bands get pretentious. They were cool when I bought merch from them so, hope is high.

About a year ago I had tickets to see the Dave Matthews Band. But the show was cancelled after the tragic death of a band member.
Earlier this week I had tickets to see them again. Postponed due to a sinus infection or something. I guess what seems like my bad luck is actually much worse luck from the band's point of view. :(

I'm no big fan of Bannon's voice either, but compositionally they're brilliant. I don't mind people slagging off Bannon (I've been known to do so myself, but that's more because he's too much of a PETA freak for PETA -- he left PETA because they "didn't go far enough" or something to that effect ) but people writing off the entire band pisses me off.

I [leagally acquired] that as soon as it was available. It's a damn good album and I put it on par with some of the best prog/psychedelic rock out there. I don't personally feel it's the bands best album (I prefer their heavier stuff: Leviathan and Remission) but it is still extremely awesome. If you like that one you should check out Blood Mountain, it's their last release and in the same vein.

JAG... was an amazing show. I loved it and was very sad to see it go.
STARGATE SG1 ... unfortunately moved to the Space Channel which I dont get so I was sad to see that happen.
The District... was an amazing show until his Assistant died in real life and it just seemed to lose its energy and was finally cancelled.
So what shows would you like to see be resurrected and come back for your enjoyment with new episodes?
Two for two...
I never saw Stargate: The Musical LIVE!
I feel... empty.

I saw Depeche Mode on Thursday.
I was insanely tired and my head was swimming from all the college work I had been doing all week, so I wasn't really in the mood for the gig. They were good, and their live rendition of Enjoy The Silence was amazing (it lasted about 10 minutes and turned into a cool tribal drum-based jam), but I couldn't really get into it.

This makes me so sad to hear, seriously. :(
I saw them once... in Europe... somewhere. I was so fucking high... sometimes I think the whole thing was imagined.
Maybe it was KMFDM that I saw...

It's nothing against the band. I wouldn't have been able to get into it no matter who was performing. I was Totally. Effing. Wiped.
It's not a good state to be in during a gig.

I didn't figure it was the band, I was meaning that more towards that fact that you were so burnt out that you couldn't enjoy it. I know how much you were looking forward to it.

Yeah, it was a shame, but at least I got to see them. C'est la vie.

Tomorrow night. Jonathan Coulton.
Nigga owes me 12 bucks
Lucky, lucky bastard.
He was originally pencilled in for The Button Factory which is a tiny venue but got upgraded to Vicar Street which I'm very excited about.
Was only 19 euros too!
The last time I saw him solo was before The Raconteurs on the Alternative To Love tour. Can't wait!
