View Full Version : Fifth and final set, Henman to serve…

Anyone watching Wimbledon?
So Henman went two sets down against Tursunov, then won the next two, rousing the crowd and planting pleasant little thoughts of, ‘maybe this year…’ as the final set began.
But then he crashes, leaving no other British player in the singles competition.
I guess its down to either Federer or Roddick to challenge for the trophy. Again.
As for the women; I want Hantuchova to win.

Any other predictions?

I thought Mahut would do well after his Queens final, but then crashed in the first round. So I've nothing.
I like seeing guys such as Haas or Nalbandian do well though, so fingers crossed.
As for the ladies... just give me a good grunter :D

Is Nadal knocked out or something? Apart from the opening day, I haven't been able to see any. I will rectify this tomorrow.

yeah, he's still in it.
I've only caught a few games myself. Not sure when he plays next.

Was watching a great game today between Jankovic and Safarova and when it goes to the final set bbc cut the coverage!
Very annoying.

Unfortunately no. The Wimbledon website (www.wimbledon.org) is great for catching up with stuff though.

So after defeating the lovely Hantuchova, Senna Williams falls to Henin.
Henin to win this year?
Aaron

After Venus thrashing Sharapova so easily?
I wouldn't be so certain yet, Henin wasn't that convincing.

I would like to see Henin win. She doesn't seem to get all bratty when she isn't doing as well.

The World Cup has been distracting but now that the games have moved to 3pm at the earliest I can spend the morning of my days off watching Wimbledon :)
COME ON TIM!*
*As always, thanks for that one Bruce

This game is crazy. It's now 33 - 34. Longest match in Wimbledon history.
Whoever wins is going to be too knackered to play their next match!
Antonio_Bay
06-23-2010, 01:12 PM
37 all. I think if a 5th set ever gets to 40 games each, the set should be decided by thumb fight.

46 - 47.
When will it end. When?!!

Never going to end. I swear.

I'm at work so I can only listen on the radio.
The commentators are starting to sound delirious.
Nuts.

Just watching Isner is killing me.
I don't know how Mahut is staying so strong.

58 - 58.
It's like that scene where Red Sonja battles Arnold aaall day and night.

If this is called for the night again, how long will they be able to go tomorrow?

No clue. They're both going to ache tomorrow!
(This is the longest game played in the history of the game!)
We should all guess at the final outcome.
I'll say 61 - 63. To whom, I can't say.

Well, match suspended.
Damn.
Jesus, in that interview Isner was shaking. He's in a very very bad way.

Un-fuckin' believable. My partner here at work told me Isner was supposed to also play a doubles match about 2 hours ago.

Christ. They started playing that last set 7 hours ago... God bless 'em.
Someone will make a film about it someday.

My. God.
Will it ever end? Shouldn't they just quit and walk out into the sunset, holding each other's hand?

I'm watching it.

Both were, more or less at the same time (not against each other, thankfully). Or so it seems.

Nope. It is 65-64 Isner at the moment, Mahmut serves.
I'm going with one of them (or both, even) quitting when they reach 75-75.

66-66 all. Good lord.

06-24-2010, 11:20 AM
Its crazy. I just don't know how either of them are gonna win this.
Isner doesn't look like he has any energy to break Mahut's serve but he's proven a steely mentality to get this far already. One of them must just give up psychologically at some point!

The first set was. Can any Americans answer; are the Williams sisters national treasures?
Last I heard, one of them got fined for swearing or something at a match and the other (or the same one?) was taking heat for wearing what amounted to lingere to a competition...
So... yeah. :p

So... yeah. :p
I'll take that as permission to say that I always root for their opponents. I just tire of them always getting to the final (and well played to them for doing so). But I like the underdog. :)
I honestly don't care. Not a big tennis fan. :o
I prefer to play raquetball.

I've never understood the rules to that. Hit it against the wall and-- that's all I've gathered from the movies. :p
I'm partial to a game to Badminton.
You can hit it off the walls, ceiling as many times as you want, but it can only hit the floor once per volley. Play to fifteen. It's like close-quarters combat married tennis and raquetball is their bastard child :D
