View Full Version : What the Wild Things Ride
My First Bike...
Bought it yesterday...
1987 Suzuki LS650 Savage...
Among enthusiasts it's called a Thumper.
According to my mother, the gas tank will explode and my tallywacker will be blown off and she'll never get any grandkids out of me...
At least I'll look good right before it happens.

Yeah, I'm a wimp; I kind of think along the same lines when it comes to motorcycles, except I think more of a) losing limbs b) being crippled. Just remember to wear a helmet and don’t do any GhostRider-esque stunts. ;)
Looks real pwetty, though. And complement whichever neighbour that house belongs to in the first picture. Looks lovely.

A true classic mate, bet that attracts the ladies...
Not quite so much as my first ride though, this is the shit!

I was the talk of the town, the monkeys nuts. Free as a bird when I first straddled one of these bad boys.

As soon as I get the carburetor back on, change the oil and spark plug, and find a decent pair of pants...

Hell yeah! I'd put on my denim jacket, stick a stalk of grass in my mouth and disappear...

I never realised what a crappy driver I was till I got my first bike, after having it for the last 4 years, I highly reccomend you:
- Spend lots of money on a good, comfortable, stylish helmet (one you don't have an excuse not to wear).
- Same with a leather riding jacket, one that fits a little snug if it has body armor/back slider. Get some good riding gloves and never ride without some tough shoes.
Everything you get pissed at dumb drivers for doing, expect 10 times the frequency on a bike. Travel in the fast lane, go slightly faster than traffic (so people don't sneak up on you), always give yourself a way out, and be predictable.
Have fun!!!

Obviously you need to put a mate's soul in your throttle rocket wear a blue jump suit and be an ex astronaut with a penchant for mechanical limbs. I've heard it sends the ladies into a raging gaggle of sodden panties.
Or cover the tank in fake fur ala

Well, SNAFU is in full effect- the bike has a salvage title- no big deal. It got left outside in a hail storm- whoopee. But the guy I bought it from gave me the old title that he thought he had lost instead of the new title which supercedes the old title. I'm crossing my fingers though, because I think the new title does not have SALVAGE anywhere on it and I don't have to fuck around with having a state DMV inspector come out to the house and take 118 of my dollars just to look at the bike. The dude's mailing it tomorrow morning, certified mail.
Also, the petcock valve (he said 'cock') had a vacuum controlled off position. Guess what? The vacuum controlled off position didn't work. The crankcase filled up with gas...
Fabulous.
Fortunately, I'm twice the MacGyver Richard Dean Anderson could ever hope to be. After a spot of JB Weld, a piece of a 10-24 bolt, a few minutes with a Dremel, and some black silicone RTV, I now have a manual petcock...
The only reason I'm even mentioning any of this is because I just wanted to say 'petcock."
Petcock.
Peht Caaaahhhk.
petcock.:D

Main Entry: pet·cock Pronunciation: \ˈpet-ˌkäk\ Function: noun Etymology: pet- (perhaps from petty) + cock Date: circa 1864
: a small cock, faucet, or valve for releasing a gas (as air) or draining
My petcock is still leaky, but at least it's not flooding the crank... case. :D
I actually rode it today! New battery (the RIGHT battery) was all it needed to fire up...
Sounds like a Harley.
The neighbors are gonna love me...

If I never ride the damn thing, I'll at least be able to sit Jen on it and take pictures...

And here's how I may paint it someday...
http://home.comcast.net/~joehulon/texas_scooter.jpg
crimson leather saddle, Texas flag on the gas tank under a black wash, wrap the header. Not pictured are the drag bars (short, straight across handle bars) the bobbed rear fender and twin headlights I want to install.
All the money I'm going to save on gas will more than likely go right in to cosmetics and performance...

I know I am :DWhy don't the 2 of you try to make it to Texas for Thanksgiving? I promise I won't fondle Jen unless you ask me to. Promise.
If I'd have won the holiday lottery at work, you bet your ass we'd be on our way! I am planning a trip or two 'round Christmas- literally. The week before and the week after! (Didn't win that holiday, either...)
