Just listened to it this afternoon. It was just decent until they started talking about letting a gay bar rent Wolfy. After that it was awesome. Also, the oriental/asian conversation was pretty good.

Didn't like number 2 all that much. I would rather they didn't include the sound effects and voice clips. Anyway, I'm still looking forward to next week's SModcast.

I love the SModcasts..granted they aren't rolling on the floor laughing funny all the way through..but they are enough to make me giggle, smile, and laugh out loud..for me that is enough. There isn't much good humor left in the movies or anywhere else in entertainment these days..because of that, I am thankful for Kevin Smith and his posse...

when the casts aren't ROFLMAO funny they are intellectual and interesting to listen to...I enjoy listening to the SMopinions...:D

Indeed they were, I think SModcast 12 was the comedown episode. It did however contain the great line 'One cock in the mouth shy of being gay' which I for one will be putting up there in my top ten insults to use list.

Yea I wanna see Walts video too.

But someone tell Walt that his logic is whacked on being no Loch Ness ... new species of animals are found every year... and there always will be. ... but Walt said that being 2007 it would have been found by now.. however, he said earlier that he thoughts Rods were a new species discovered yet. So why cant Loch Ness Monster be a species not identified yet ? rofl

Near the end of one Smodcast, I can't recall which, when Kevin and Scott were talking about a species that overthrew the human race, I thought of Day of the Tentacle, that Lucas Arts game. I couldn’t believe Kevin didn’t pick up on it, being the George Lucas fan that he is. Maybe he’s not into computer games. Anyway, there’s my two cents. Thanks.

P.S. - Smodcast is the funniest bullshitting around I've ever heard

My primary form of entertainment (at least in the daytime) is podcasts. I was a little worried that this one was going to suck based on the first two. But like anything else, with practice, it's gotten so much better. I love this cast. It's always interesting, and usually pretty damn funny. What else can you ask for?

dtcb
06-27-2007, 09:43 AM
I was also into the whole wacky conversation on loch ness, big foot and UFO/rods. I kinda disagree with Walt on the whole new species thing for 'rods'. If these rods were bugs zooming around, eventually we would have a carcass. Just like loch nessy isn't real because at least one of them should have gone turd-float by now or washed up on shore (they can't all sink).

Still, at least Walt has a theory that's original. I have no effin' clue what rods are.

If those guys are into flea markets, they should come over to hong kong and go down some of street markets (and not the usual tourist markets). Tons of goofy crap being sold. Everything from Lego knockoffs to speaker cable to hooker lingerie.

It's good to hear Jason Mewes is getting roles in films and he's doing well.

I hope they can keep the SModcasts rollin'. They are sheer entertainment.

Anyone notice the tension when it came to Kevin's Mother? Mrs. Smith seems not to like her.
Also the whole relgion thing is alittle hashed out. The whole "Do you own slaves" just isnt a good argument in a serious conversation, then again I doubt most old people really want to talk about it.

Hey All,

Just got finished listening to Lynching Vixen. The podcast was hilarious as per usual.

I remember watching that particular Christmas special. I had totally forgotten about the fact that both the heat and cold miser used to scare the shit out of me. I had nightmares about them for like a week, especially when all those little mini misers pop out and dance with with them. Bumbles the abominable snow man used to get to me as well. Call me a pussy, but that stuff was pretty surreal and creepy.

BTW does anyone know if "Race for Your Life Charlie Brown" is available? I could not find it on Netflix and usually they have got just about everything. I remember watching that on HBO when I was little and wanted to try to get it for my son.

First off, SModcast is awesome. I've gone from casual fan of Mr. Smith himself (I've always been a big Clerks/Clerks 2 fan) to hardcore fan of the whole SModcast posse almost overnight (I've gone through every episode in the space of about three days).

Anyhow, I'm posting with a request. OK, really I'm just begging: A good deal of the music on the cast is easily recognizable but there are a few songs that I would LOVE to find, I'm just not familiar with them (obscure 80's favorites of Kevin's?). I know SModcast is free and it's hard to ask anyone to do more work for no money but, is there any chance of getting a song list tacked onto the info about the new shows? It would make my day, and I'm venturing to guess there might be others similarly interested?

Thanks so much for doing the podcast, they've contributed to three of the best days at work in recent memory, and I'm looking forward to the new episodes.

I downloaded them all and listened to everyone coming and going to work. I've listened to all of them in 2 weeks. It lasts almost to the minute the entire train ride I have to take. Its better than a book. My only problem is I am trying so hard not to laugh (and failing) people look at me like I'm nuts.

I really enjoy them. I like that they have been mixed up alittle over the last few episodes, but Mosier is still great.

Mrs Smith is starting to warm up to me. Before she was just sorta Meh. I didnt like her, but I didnt hate her.

I still laugh about the whole Prime Minster of Canada thing. Its kinda sad that the home of the smodcast has sooooooo little conversation about it.

Mos will be back in 2 weeks... A brand new guest co-host makes his SMod debut this coming Monday.

As for the music, while I won't post a full list, if there're any tracks that are nagging at your subconscious, feel free to ask me and I'll let you know what they are (since I'm the one that does the song selection).

Latest Smodcast discusses scorpions and spiders.....and the horrors of a brown recluse spider bite. Never had to misfortune to encounter one but, have seen a funnel web spider in my buddies bathroom down in Australia (North of Sydney, North Ryde). The damn thing came at me!! Like it had a shot at taking me down. Front legs up....scooting at me. I friggin' jumped back and slammed the door in it's face only to see it scoot under the door. I had to boogy down the hall a few feet before it lost me. Frig-a-dig! My buddy said it was probably hiding under the toilet lid. The toilet lid!! Waiting to bite you on your ass....or worse! Talk about the freak out shivers.

I don't normally kill spiders (because they are natural pest control) but, I took it personal and cranked it with a shovel from the yard. I literally walked out of the house, onto the back deck where everyone was hanging out, grabbed the shovel next to the deck, and brought it in to bash the crap out of this spider. 2 to 3 hits until it was woodstain.

I stayed up all night after that. I was staying over at his house (too far from the hotel back in Sydney and we were all drinking). I couldn't sleep with my imagination going a mile a minute. I was seeing the creepy crawly things everywhere.

And these guys live in suburbia with this happening! Nope, not moving to Australia any time soon unless I'm in a vacuum sealed Howard Hughes apartment.

As a trained entomologist (I've got a Bachelors in Entomology from the University of Massachusetts and worked on Mosquitoes for my PhD in Genetics) I think spiders on the whole get a bad rap.

Most actual spider bites are very infrequent and many times bites or skin problems are blamed on spiders, but not really from a spider. I am not entirely convinced that that abscess that that guy had was directly due to the spider bite. It looks more like a bacterial infection to me.

If you get some sort of an insect or spider bite make sure you wash it and treat it with antibiotic ointment and it will never get to the point where that guys face was. If it does start to swell, go to the doctor they will take care of it. It does not have to be that bad.

Also there are some misconceptions out there as to the type of spider that is doing this. The true "Hobo" spiders are different from the Brown Recluse. Brown recluse bites are actually much worse than what that guy had. The toxin they inject slowly causes your tissue around the bite area to die, resulting in some really awful lesions as seen in the following link (warning not for the sqeamish). However their bites are very infrequent and are usually because they are being threatened.

http://www.keypointgraphics.com/images/brown_recluse_spider_bite_Day10.jpg
(Sorry about the broken link the first time, it should be working now.)

Now! If you really want a spider to worry about check this bad larry out! One of my own creations

I think spiders do alright; besides being creepy and damn eagghhh! Eight legs and beedy bundles of eyes. Frig-a-din Yaaaayaa!

Never mind; I'm Arachnaphobic. I do the heebee jeebee bugaloo every time I see the movie Arachnaphobia. Especially when that huge queen spider chomps down on that dude's inner thigh while he's in bed.....Worst Spider Episode, Ever!

Now Cockroaches and Mosquitoes, Circle of Life be damned, they have no friggin rights to existence. "I shtomp on dem! Ya!" And unfortunately, there is plenty of both in hong kong.

I've entered the SMODcast contest. And now have no idea what I would do with that Mary Jane statue if I won. I'll be proud to have won it, knowing where it came from; and refuse not to place it somewhere prominant. But, it will be the most ackward conversation piece on display. The statue is kind of like the leg lamp in the movie "A Christmas Story."

Honestly, where would you place a little statue of a hot woman daisy-duking "new school" style with a thong? And bent over laundry no less?

Hmmmmm?

I guess you could say I'm a bit more fortunate if I do win as these type of statues are quite common in Asia. Lots of Sailor Moon statues with scant clothes and impossible anatomy in stationary and toy shops on the streets (what's with the friggin big eyes?).

So, with it visible in the surrounding culture; maybe I can get away with it on my desk? And in all honesty, it would reduce stress levels better than a chia pet or some crappy motivational poster.

The Mary Jane statue certainly is less Nerd-en-freuden than the robot warrior thingies most guys have but, just one step removed from a playboy poster and some form of sexual harassment I'm sure.

The guys in our Australia office have a poster of Wonder Woman on the wall in a high visibility spot and nobody seems to be concerned. Then again: a. It is Wonder Woman. b. she isn't bent over the wash in a thong and smiling like a cougar: "come get some!"

What do you guys think? What would you do with Mary Jane......?

Pretty good Podcast, Mosier is getting better at it me thinks.
Pixar Pete! Lol! Classic

Kevin Tends to repeat himself, heard the Scottland story twice before?

But the Mos' makes me chuckle.

A live call in show would be too much like the Q & A's and I think would sorta steer out of control. Sometimes when watching Kevin answer questions you just want to scream when they ask "Jay and Bob this....: or "Drugs that". The 15-20 year old Stoner crowd shouldnt be let near the mic.

Why not just take well written emails and read and answer them on Smodcast?

Or I dont know, get like 10 people he knows and have them go around the room.

I wanna see Smodcast with Video, I dont care if its just two dudes sitting, I think it would be a good use of my video ipod (that is unless, Keven and Crew all nude then I'll pass)

Mosier: "Are we out of site of civilization?!" "Anyone want to see a Faggus?" Hilarious! The banter kills me.

Yeah, I think it would suck if a SMODCast open-call evening was met with lame ass troglodyte queries and statements. I am truly impressed by Kevin's devotion to the fans but, ironically folks standing up to talk to him tend to be donks. I have only seen a few questions that were worth a damn.

But, I have faith too. I believe he'd probably get something set up with 'net queries and screen out the dregs. Probably have one of his almighty webmasters on quickstop or view askew to moderate (or even be there to verbally narrate queries for kicks).

It would be great if he could get a roundtable like he has done for commentary tracks but, .....it might be harder to contain, as the banter would be flying.

Whatever the case, I'm totally sold on SMODCast.

I somewhat disagree about the aiming of attention to hard to find dvd rents etc. I like the concept of the show basically being two guys talking about whatever comes to mind for an hour, putting music to it, recording it, and making it available for the "minute" fanbase (which am us) to listen and enjoy. In fact, I especially like the earlier casts when Kevin and Scott were doing some catching up and then trying to find things to talk about. Such as Mosier's dog....may he rest in peace. Although, a Halloweenish themed showed would most likely be hillarious.

The entertainment is these guys spew what they want on SMODCast. Somehow, I am happy to listen in to whatever they are talking about, even if it is mind shattering horror like a datschund dragging its genitalia along the ground or amazing revelations on Helen Keller. I'm guessing the lack of agenda keeps it interesting.

And I have a feeling, by association, some stuff on this messageboard may eventually get back to Mr. Smith via someone else.......especially if it is about masturbating dogs, turkey stick-sex, or a "List of why Scott Mosher is so Gay" web page (probably done by his own hands).

I wonder if Scott Mosher's wife would be willing to sit in on a SMODCast to refute Kevin's allegations? Or maybe one of his travelling companions like Pixar Pete to enforce the misconception? Ha!

One interesting thing for me that came up in Cast 29 was their avid following of the Harry Potter stories. These guys are really into them. I've personally never read any of the books and only seen the movies. And for some reason, part of me has no desire to read the books. I know a lot of adults who have; and I don't doubt Rowling wrote them for a wide audience (and wrote them well). People who have read the Potter series always tell me to read them. But, something about wizards and following a child who basically gets abused throughout the series keeps me from reading them.

Dexstar100

u know where its at man!!..about the orginality and hilarious concept that is the SModcast.

a word about the Potter bug. I felt the same way u did about the whole thing. Everyone was suprised that I didn't like Harry Potter. "U should," they would say, "u like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings." But so what just cause I like one thing doesn't automatically mean that I'll like something else. I mean, why the hell would I want to know about some punk ass boy that goes to school to be a wizard. Then one night, I decided to watch one of these movies just to put as specific point on my dislike of Potter. Now, I have to admit that after watching the first one that night I became hooked and watched the rest. Then, I got into the books. I actually enjoy the books better. The storytelling is deeper and the continuity (something that I am a huge fan of), as the books go on, stays fresh and interesting.

Not trying to tell u to read them. Just expressing a point of view.

Mosier and Mr. and Mrs. Smith should do a 3-way SModcast!!!!:D

Yeah, but the servers are soooo slow. They go at like less than 50KB/s. :( I usually get like 700KB/s download speed. But I found out all I have to do in iTunes is keep trying to dl them and they will eventually start working. I only have 6 left to dl...woot!
I also realized I lost all my videos on my ipod too. :(
What a sucky day.

smodcast 30 - a tough one.

kevin and scott chime on news about some law official pedophile. My opinion on this leans way past Kevin's and into hell on this earth like territory for pedo's. Mercy for none.

Was in a room where everyone was debating what to do with pedophiles once captured. About a dozen folks talking back and forth; more than a few holding the same opinions as Kevin and some like Scott. brutal elongated death or euthanasia. Some advocating life in prison.

These are the type of conversations that people chime up on their opinion and defend it venemently. And the Stephen King in me comes out on these kind of things so I kept quiet during the whole conversation.

Well, somehow, someone (pro-death) asked my opinion. Probably knowing what they would get, which was the following:

"We should consolidate pedophile offenders into one prison. That prison would also be a collection point for convicted prison rapists. Convicted prison rapists would be given two options; fulfill a requirement or lethal injection. Those who took the first option would be led into a room where a convicted pedophile would be bent over a table with his hands and feet nailed down to the table and floor. The convicted rapist would be given a condom covered in fiberglass fletchets and soaked in turpentine and told, "you don't leave the room until he's dead; and not by strangulation or blunt force trauma. Failure equals death, and that guy screaming with his extensions nailed down is a convicted child molester. Get to work scum!"

The screams from the room would be recorded and played 24/7 for the other inmates waiting to die in same fashion."

After that quick statement, I got up and walked over to the fridge to refill my drink (Vodka Cranberry). I had a thought and added: "And that was only one idea. I had a few more. Flavors of horror and such." After that comment, the room universally condemned me. Too much they said.

Eh, whatever. Obviously, I am not in the legal system or a lobbyist for certain types of prison reform. So, it will never be my say (which is probably for the best; as I believe convicted child molesters should be violently removed from society in such as to keep every day of their lives in fear of committing the act).

But, what would the rest of you folks feel is punishment enough for the heinous act of child molestation?

I suppose I just fail to see why you would type such garbage when your post above shows you can do a proper job when you want to.

u sir are quite right. and seeing how u know me so well, I will be sure to refrain from using all pimpish, gangsterish, and reatarded words and phrases. It's been a long time since I've laughed so hard (Clerks 2 maybe?), and I can't wait for the next one.
My favorite so far is #29.

The wide selection of music is another reason to love Smodcast.
Not only do I get a laugh, but I get introduced to a lot of music I wasn't before familiar with.
I'm also assuming that Unca is an Elton fan since I hear a lot of it sprinkled throughout.

Just heard #31 and thought I'd help Kevin with the difficult question, "What if you had no way of knowing the hot chick was your sister? What about a sexual attraction then?" Like all important things, this question has been studied through the movies!
Lonestar (1996) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116905/), where Chris Cooper's character is deeply attracted to Elizabeth Pena. Unbeknowst to them, they are actually half-bother and sister.
They seem cool with it even after learning the truth. The line I remember Pena saying was something alone the lines of "I can't have any children anymore anyways." Mystery solved.

SMODCast 32......:

I think I'm starting to get my news from SMODCast.

Good to here that 'pederast' prosecutor guy hung himself. But, I would have preferred he was horribly beaten to death in federal prison rather than hanging himself. I do feel bad for his family. How would you like to be the child of Mr. Fiddlepants? Their peers are going to taunt the living hell out of them. His wife is probably feeling completely betrayed as well. I hope that guy is getting sodomized by chainsaws and lit blowtorches in hell.

But enough about that, I'm going to start working at fast food places waiting for the dialed in interrogations.

How could anyone phone in an interrogation........hilarious. Summers should be publicly flogged and run around town naked chased by dogs. What a tool! And Ogborn (victim) who won the 6 mil says she is going to law school? Law school? If she's guillible enough to get naked on a phone in; then she's not going to last 2 seconds in law school.

And to put the cherry on the top; it has been going on for a decade, with several other incidents. (check out the follow up http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/Story?id=1297922&page=3 which also goes on telling how they caught the interrogation caller)

But, Kevin's comment put it in a good light:

"Bill Shatner on a hood of a car on a phone; calling asking you to take your clothes off."

Hey, I'd totally take my clothes off if accused of a crime.........but, only by Shatner............and possibly any women's beach volleyball team.

Hello all, just joined the forums today.

I've been listening to SModcast for a while now and is by far one of my favorites. The others I listen to are usually from NPR including Car Talk and Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me.

Mr. Kevin Smith was on Wait Wait a few weeks ago on their segment "Not My Job" where they ask celebrities questions about they know nothing about...or so that is how the segment is supposed to go. In this instance, Kevin actually knew quite a lot about the subject.

They asked him questions about the book "Elephants On Acid" which, as you all know, he and Mosier talked about to great lengths on an earlier SModcast. It was so weird, I thought that perhaps my podcasts had began mating. Needless to day, Smith got them all right and even went on to explain the stories behind each question.

It was fantastic. Check out the Podcast of Wait Wait Don't Tell Me to hear for yourself.

I wonder, Mr. Smith, if it was hard to not swear? I was waiting for you to slip but you kept your integrity! :D

Bryan must have had a terrible childhood. Random Spider Fights, Cheating GF's, and Metal.
No wonder he said he goes to therapy.

dtcb

Bryan mentions discussing with his therapist all in stride. A confident man. Obviously, whatever he's getting out of it is for stuff he's already roping in (or knew he needed help on). And somehow, I've always just imagine neurotic people like woody allen going to a therapist, not metal men like bryan johnson. I wonder if Rob Halford has a therapist?

I understand his retail woes. I use to work at a gas station and humanity in general sucks.

But, it is going to be tough for Kevin to get someone (close) to work the secret stash in Cali if Bryan leaves. I think he should get Malcom to do it: "I swear I wasn't jerking on the 'Lil Abner' comics, you can check it for fingerprints!"

After being laid off as a marketing director, I said I would take some time between starting a new gig time to do all those things I wanted to do but never had the time;

catch up on all my reading
exercise and lose weight
do all those home repair projects
find the perfect job
and spend quality time with my kids

After 6 months:

I almost read, "For One More day" only because my son is an extra in it. I did catch up on my stack of comics and now waste hours at my local shop arguing the pros and cons of the Civil War (Marvel's not the U.S.)
I walk my dog about 4-5 miles a day, but still am 254lbs - if only I was 7' 2" instead of 5’ 10" I would have a bitchin' build on me. I did get jock itch for the first time so that is kind of athletic.
I have replaced a few burnt out light bulbs and trimmed some hedges - but that stopped when I cut the power cord in half because I thought I saw a snake (it was just a really big earthworm)
I was turned down as an extra on Indiana Jones 4 in New Haven and passed over as Marketing Director for the ComicCon because I was too much of a fan - go figure. So I am still looking and do some freelance marketing.
I have been able to see every baseball, soccer, cub scout and school event in the past 10 months - making up for years at the office (ok so I missed my son's first ever touchdown because I was in NYC at a ComicCon Q&A- but I did get to ask Kevin Smith what does the "Bizarro" KS do - so it was worth it - I guess) so that is cool.

But this time at home has made me an expert at podcast listening - a talent unique to the modern age - podcast listening is not like radio listening - it is more like being in a worldwide bar and listening to everyone complain -- but it is enjoyable! The best being SMODCAST!

Now as I am about to download the latest show and go for a walk - without knowing the contents, that have been hermetically sealed in a pickle jar on the porch of Funk & Wangle - I will use my divine abilities to ascertain the contents of the program!!!!!

1. You will hear at least 9 lighter flicks.
2. Depending on the location of the recording - if it is at Rancho Smith, a dog(s) will bark and interrupt the show at least 3 times.
3. The phrase "In a world where..." will be used at least twice.
4. The term, "I am no expert" or "I am guessing..." will be said 5 times - more so if Scott is on the show.
5. One reference to the Jersey Devils (this maybe faulty as I have listened to a few Walt shows again and again as they are hysterical and remind me of all the friends I never had in High School).
6. Two time checks - usually around the last 10 to 15 minutes of the show.
7. People referred to as "this cat" or "motherfucker" depending if Kevin is sounding like Samuel L. Jackson.
8. An incalculable amount of times historical events are recounted in error or completely fictitious -- this can been fun for strangers passing by me as I listen and walk the dog; I am often seen cringing while listening and muttering "didn't anyone ever go to history class".

But all in all - the show will be the highlight of my week and the best thing about being laid off!

So here's to not finding a new gig anytime soon and continued listening to SMODCAST!

Comments and abuse are welcome!

"Garbage Pickers!!!" - SMODcast 34

the heroes from jersey (episode 34). Their whole "Scumbags Leave!" scenario. Them going to parties and getting kicked out...then watching from a distance. Poor Goofy Bastards!

After hearing that I count my blessings that I was straight into college after highschool. I went to a state school mind you, not some Ivy cardigan wearing cash cow. But, it was UMass at Amherst; ZooMass by reputation. A higher plain of existence, party-wise, compared to highschool.

I don't know if I agree with Walt's philosophy on it (the lions in a cub den) or the pessimism Bryan and Kevin feel for the incident but, I have a feeling if I hadn't gone to college after highschool that could have been my friends and I. Most my friends went into the military and the few that stayed behind.....did have go to the 'kiddie parties' (what we called the highschool parties) as the older folks. Usually, with someone from the highschool age group to act as minder/chaperone. And my friends at home said the age between 18 and 21 (pre bar access) is sheer torture if you're a party leper and don't have a fake ID. More than a few of my more 'metal' friends would get the boot from the party.

I guess the only social coordination for parties is still with the highschool kids or a college campus. No one who stayed in the neighborhood in their late teens early 20's seemed to organize big parties. Usually just small get-togethers of friends. Eh, C'st la vie.

Not sure if Kevin's brother would ever want to be on a smodcast but, he's referenced enough to justify being on. At the very least to refute anything said about him.........like being asked to grope through poo for a tooth and it affecting his gender preference.......hilarious! Walt - "Go find that tooth!"
Kevin - "Dig through that pile of stool!"
and Bryan saying, "Mom, I'm liking this!" makes me laugh out loud every time.

Weed is a grey area in Cali? I'm not going to be running my ass over there but, that I did not know. I'm not crazy for the green but, I don't think it should be so restricted. Booze is just as bad and I have free access to that.

Wow, Bryan is Chemical-Ali!

Hell, if it is working for him though.....everyone's got some chains to drag around so it could be worse. He could be a scat fan (=poo fondler).

Ritalin, for adults? And it's speed!!! So we're giving kids speed to calm them down. Yow!

I do believe Kevin is a contributing factor to driving all his friends to a shrink.....Coco Puff eatin' Mind-frackker! Ha! Ha! Ha! Now he's going to have a complex after cast 35 (circle of life).

SMODCast 36

Charmed???? Holy visual garbage! Mewes has resilience for crap! Then again...it was Baywatch for witches; following 3 hot chicks around. His ears are probably not hearing the dialogue as the ladies saunter around.

But, the most creepy is Mewes is a "Murder She Wrote" fan.......my mother forced me to watch that show.

like this.

http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/dtcb1/theater_scene.gif

I use to beg for Lansbury to wipe out on the bike during the intro (or at least Jaws to jump out and chomp her off the damn bike; as it was the original Universal Studios' Jaws set).

If Jay started waxing Jessica Fletcher, I would crawl into a fetal position.

http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/dtcb1/Angelasoulcrusher.jpg

The music is hilarious. "I only have eyes for you." during the rating game. Ha! Ha! Aha! (I believe thanks go to UncaScroogeMcD)

On a personal note; never, tried to suck my own dong. I agree with Mewes...don't want a cock in my mouth; even my own. I am impressed Kevin made it. He must have had scoliosis as a child.

I've tried, can't make it. I have a recurring dream that I can do it, and I awaken to disappointment. Man, I'm fucked up.

What about the urban legend of the guy who broke his back trying to blow himself? I've heard one version that he used a hospital-type bed to bend his body and broke his back. Fucking loser!

Ingenuity is one thing. But being a Darwin award runner-up makes you a loser by definition. Not all ideas are good ideas! And there are too many bad ideas to list. Just having an idea does not a make one a winner. Execution counts!

Apparently you've never been devoted to a cause. In each successful cause there must be those who pass prematurely. The Wright brothers built on the ideas and mistakes of others and so too have the throngs of attempted self fellators (or is it fellaters? THAT one isn't in spell check). Smodcast 37.

Not bad; grateful for the extra time.

I cannot believe David Copperfield had such a set of scripted demands for his staff....wait....yes I can.......sigh. Pessimism is the fear and loathing about being right about human nature.

The Book of General Ignorance is pretty good. My go to book for long plane flights (and Cliff Clavin style barroom quotes).

I think Mosher could lead a whole SMODCast......but with only with special guest Pixar Pete......and mosty talking about skipping hand in hand out of site of civilization (with some Harry-Scotter references throw in for good measure).

I dont get the logic of that plan unless its just to get more people to go to this site.

Also, that whole North South thing got old, fast. It was just a rambling mess.

I liked alot of it, but I can hardly remember any of it, it just kinda goes all over the place.

I did laugh out loud a few times (on the train which got me many a stare)

I would say it would be an average smodcast (strangly if it would shorter I think it would have been better) but the worst SModcast (the Poker One) Is still better than half the crap out there.

PS
Does it piss anyone off that this is the home for smodcast, but smith only refers to his viewaskew board comments about SMODCAST and never ours. I think we would see a jump in this thread if he atleast once brought up us bastard web children (maybe its because we dont pay for his site)

I dont get the logic of that plan unless its just to get more people to go to this site.

I have been thinking about that for a couple of days. To me, it would seem that the traffic would be constricted to just this site, making it harder to download. Unless he's banking on the fact that most humans are inherently lazy. Since iTunes downloads it automatically if you're subscribed, and to download right away on this site, one would actually have to go to the trouble of navigating TO this site. I dunno.

Does it piss anyone off that this is the home for smodcast, but smith only refers to his viewaskew board comments about SMODCAST and never ours. I think we would see a jump in this thread if he atleast once brought up us bastard web children (maybe its because we dont pay for his site)

Secondly, let me preface by saying that I think Kevin is about as creative as a human being can be, and does really good work...yes...here comes the but...but, by listening to Smodcast, I have learned that he really really really enjoys having his ego stoked. He also has become a little more "big time" than he would like to admit. He says he's "for the people" and an accessible celebrity, but during a lot of his "Evening With" stuff he often openly denigrates his fans. Once a fan offered to give Smith a piece of fan art and Smith said, "Why don't you just keep that." Give the guy a break. Take it and throw it away or something, but give the guy the satisfaction of thinking his hero was interested in seeing his work. He wasn't asking for a part in your movie. As a person who professes to lay around most of his life, would it really eat up so much of your time to look at that poor schlub's picture?

So ya, to my point...I spent a little time looking around on Viewaskew and couldn't really find a thread or people that I was really interested in replying to or corresponding with, respectively. Most of the posts had an underlying theme of "We love Kevin Smith," or were simply a cyber version of stroking him off. I'm glad people are fans, but I think on here (Quickstop) folks have a lot more to say. I like Quickstop because I feel I have been accepted fairly easily and enjoy the discourse on SEVERAL types of topics, very often having Kevin and his movies only as a background theme and actually very rarely mentioned. Ok...soap box...done.

Whole heartedly agree.

However, yeah, I can't watch him in interviews anymore. Way too smug for a man with his box-office record.

As good as it feels to have someone stroke your various nether regions, having your ego stroked feels ten times better. Especially for someone like Kevin who from what I understand by listening to Smodcast, grew up with domineering parents and little sense of self worth. Next to food, ego is his drug. I should know, we recognize our own.

Just in general, it's tough finding that balance between confidence in your abilities and smug asshole. I'd imagine that balance becomes even tougher to maintain when everyone is stroking your ego, and you lose all external reference to your behavior and your mental reactions to circumstances becomes unchecked. IMO that's why you see such crazy eccentricities in movie stars. They no longer have anyone in close proximity to say, "That's a damn foolish idea" or "Dude, I like you but you're being a jackass."

The Dude is an adult after all, and Smith treating him like a child keep Mewes down.
I've noticed that too (not on the smodcasts of course, I can't stomach them).
Smith treats Mewes like he owes his life to him, and that he should bow down before his saviour. It's one of the reasons I've gone off him and his work in the last year.

Wow. I had totally prepared to get flamed right out of here after my last post. I like posting here. People think. You don't find that many places any more. I was also afraid that I was the only one that was feeling that way, but by reading the last few posts, it's nice to see other people thinking critically about things.

As for the way Kev treats Mewes...I think Mewes is as much to blame as Smith. He allows himself to be treated like a child. I think it relieves him of some of the responsibility in his life. In all honesty, it may actually have helped his recovery though. If the addict has only their recovery to focus on and not direction in their life, sometimes it helps...of course other times...it causes them to lose focus on the ultimate goal. I did notice in the last Smodcast (the all Mewes and Smith cast) that it seemed like Jason was trying to assert himself, subtly, as an adult that makes his own choices. Maybe I'm just hoping and reaching...and I'm beginning to ramble...and I hate rambling.

I just signed up so I could post this. A thank you to Kevin, Scott and Company.

I have been working my way through the catalog of smodcasts and enjoying them greatly. I stay home with my 2 1/2 year old daughter and will listen to smodcast on my cell phone/ mp3 player (headphones on) and she will ask me what is making me laugh, I can generally tell her I just leave out details.

My wife and I were expecting our second child on Halloween, one of my steps to prepare was to keep my mp3 player stocked with some fresh media... including several Smodcasts that I hadn't listened to.

A week later she went into labor in the middle of the night and by Wednesday morning we had a nine pound son, life was good. Things took a turn at 1:30 am, just as we were trying to get some sleep. A doctor we had never met came in and told us that our sons breating was labored, that they were conserned that he might be fighting an infection and that they were going to transfer him to the neonatal intensive care unit.

We made our way into the nursery and said our good byes as they took him down to run some tests. More time passed and in comes the doctor again and they say that they want to preform a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) to see if he had menengitis. At this point we had not slept in two days, and our minds were starting to reel. (as our hearts broke)

They were talking about keeping our son for a week or more to treat his possiable infection with the IV antibiotics they had started him on. There has never been a sight that has scared me so much as seeing my day old son with all of those wires and tubes attached to him. To ice the cake my wife developed preeclampsia, it was really about all I could take.

So... that was my state of mind when I put on the headphones and fired up Smodcast to try and keep myself from thinking too much. And here is the beauty of smodcast. In that moment instead of letting my mind follow the many easy paths towards worse and worse possiabilites I listened to Kevin and Mews talk about... nothing. Just two friends catching up, googing around and trying to amuse one another. It was the perfect companion to my dark mood and situation as much as it has had been to my everyday life.

I can not tell you that it made my situation any better, but it did give me a break from one of the worst moments of my life. In doing so it helped me to keep the brave face that my family needed of me.

For this I thank you.
Rob.

A post script... Otto (My son) was just fine and came home this Monday, my wonderful wife's blood pressure is dropping and my amazing daughter (Elanor) fared the upheaval that these events brought into her life like a champ and now will not allow you to call her anything other than Big Sister, not even her given name.

Ah, the Homer Simpson defense:

"Marge it takes two to lie - one to lie and one to listen."

I do agree though, he does pretty much just sit there and take it most of the time. Smith owes his whole career to Mewes, because the stoned slacker crowd (man, I sound like Bill O'Reilly ) that make up the majority of his audience all wish they could be like "Jay".

While Smith does help drive the Smodcast, sometimes it just the dude reading a website or article (see last show, the hellen keller stuff, Elphants on Acid) as if it was 1) His Work 2) Like he already knew this 3) Like we cant just go online and read it ourselves. Its a pet peeve of mine when people do power points and just read what they wrote on the power point. Same thing with someone just reading something.

I was listening to SMODCAST while reading the book of general ignorance and he is basically just flipping through the book reading.

I still enjoy his work, and his smodcasts I find it refreshing that we have a place to gripe about him as well.

Also I notiuced "Under the Sea" playing in the last smodcast, I guess some people arent afraid of the House of Mouse.

In SMODCAST #32 Kevin talks about his fear of going in water and mentions www.swimatyourownrisk.com, I've just checked this site out and can totally understand where this fear comes from.
People are getting pecked, tasted, nibbled and most of all eaten by numerous things that live in the sea!

If your not thinking of going on a scuba trip or beach holiday I def recommend checking this site out!!

Nice one, cheers Kev :)

I can't stand this endless discussion about the small world ride. Dude, if you're so fat that you might bottom out the boats on it's a small world, then why are you going to take it out on the Disney employees who are just there to help everyone enjoy themselves? KS is a man with considerable resources. If he's worried about his weight, he should do something about it.

dtcb
11-20-2007, 04:49 AM
I think KS treads the line. He probably has some ego born of success (with a jubilant fan base) but, he's bowing before Bruce Willis. I think Kevin is not totally surrounded by psychophants. His fans definitely gobble his fecal remains but, Hollywood in general probably have a few folks that would chuck 'indie cred-muppet' his way. Plus, being fat in LA / Hollywood probably backhands him here and there. I think his ego probably rises and ebbs like the tide. (His wife seems to keep him in check as well).

Kevin more than once has also stated people that blast him on the internet get him down. High up and layed low by the lowest (net trolls). I don't think he's kiddin'. I think it does zing him (and he will prominently post at ViewAskew for sheer safety).

For a guy Reaping the whirlwind of success I think he has kept the fairly even. And to be fair, he puts himself way, way, way out there for the fans. Nobody else is doing that. What other directors are touring with Q&A sessions? (and making a sweet buck)

But, besides that crap, if there is one thing I learned from SMODCast #38.....I will be drunk in Disney on my next visit. Ironically, we have just planned to do this with 2 buddies on Friday. Couple water bottles full of vodka and we're off!

"Boat Solo!"

Fortunately, we're happy drunks and un-fat so no one will have to defend anyone's honor while riding the rides. (we may puke on the Mad Hatter's Tea Cups though)

No offense but, if the ride can't take the weight, it can't take the weight. If you weigh 2 people (and over 300 lbs is 2 people), you are a 2 seat calculation. Hey, that's life. You can't sue because it's not discrimination (real or implied) it is physics. They are doing the samething to Shaq because he's probably the same weight as Kevin.

I still don't know where to go with their porn discussion.........I'd say the line between gay and not gay is being turned on or not. That's it. If you like seeing dudes doing anything with their tackle; gay. If you watch it and are ambivalent; not gay. Curiousity just gets you there; what you do once there defines you. I think Mosher was trying to get to that statement while Kevin was throwing out 'what if' scenarios. Which are hilarious. I'd rather listen to them discussing porn than see it for myself (which may be 'old school' gay).

And how the hell could anyone in this day and age decide to snort crap fumes? (fecal freaks aside) Where is Darwin's Scythe when you need it? Living in Asia, I have literally walked extra blocks in the other direction to avoid the stench of hell itself coming out of open sewers. I would never sniff poo fumes for any benefit, even anti-aging properties.

I had to laugh when I heard KS talking about the smallworld boats. I'm not a small person but last year I was seated in a smallworld boat with several other adults. As the boat was pushed off the loading platform and floated in the water, the boat started to tip and water rushed in on one side, all of us scrambled to the other side, over-correcting and causing water to come in that side.. we all finally balance in the middle but several people got wet. It wasn't 1 fat person, it was just several adults not seated evenly in the boat. It was highly amusing.

In order to show my devotion to this board as well as my compassion for human suffering, I journied to viewaskiew for a record breaking second time this month. It seems that there should be a Smodcast next week. I agree with their feeling that it might be more difficult than Smith imagined to keep up with Smodcast while in production, so the downloadable content might be sporadic for the next couple of months. After all...it's free. If he were making money from it, there would be two a week ;) Tongue firmly in cheek folks.

The skits they do are pretty funny, "A SMODCast Christmas" with animation would be hilarious.

I cannot believe the christmas presents Kevin got as a kid. His parents must have saved every dime and nickel to get him all those star wars toys! I always wanted the AT-AT but, never got one. My brother and I had to share a millenium falcon. Can't blame my parents though, those toys were too expensive. They did get me my own Space 1999 Moon Eagle though!

I got my At-At about a year after they were popular. We were shopping at the goodwill store and there it was. It cost me $3.00.

I also had all the Batman and Robin dolls but no bat cave. I turned the large box my bike came in into the Batcave.

Loving the smodcast guys. I've been putting them on my i-pod and it really makes my nights fly by at work.

SModcast is awesome...Kevin goes on about how small his penis is, maybe he has a clit. Does he use his pinky to masturbate or his hand, this will answer the question.
You are not fat Kevin...you are full of acids...you need foods that are akaline.

SMODCast #44

Boy a ton of people on a film set. Kevin going through the names with Jay is long. Credit to Kevin for knowing most of them. Don't think he was reading off a list........or was he..hmmmmm.

I know I'm a cast behind, but #43 was incredibly drawn out. I got the joke after about 6 minutes. After that, they were both just rehashing their arguments about the Matrix.
The thing I liked most about some of the earlier episodes, was that they covered a variety of topics and kept it interesting. Smorpheous drug on and on for me. Hopefully #44 is better, because it's starting to lose me.

Talking about the Matrix, hey it's like I'm back in 2000 in my Philosophy Class

And then
Jason Mewes naming who cuts his hair for an hour.
zzzzzzz

Though the stuff about filming wasnt bad.

Now if he could only get Seth Rogen to do a Smodcast

I was thinking the same damn thing. Except I kept going back and forth between thinking "this is horrible" and "this is maybe the best podcast ever." I didn't think it was possible to revisit those painfully pointless arguments generated in my metaphysics class, but somehow, they brought it all back.

I enjoyed the Matrix discussion. I'm not listening to SModcast for anything more than the opportunity to eavesdrop on a goofy conversation between two amusing strangers.

Fuck Seth Rogen and his Jello fucking salad.

The Matrix situation left the realm of "discussion" about 15 minutes into it. It turned in to a full blown dissertation of redundancy.

Well, yuh. I abandoned any pretense of giving a shit about the Matrix approximately 1/8 of a second before Great-Great-Granddad Wachowski finished dropping a batch into his first cousin.

Not really, but I enjoyed the absurd chit-chat about the movie on the same level as I enjoyed the movie. I would not expect or desire an academic style dissertation to arise from either - that would be ass.

"full blown dissertation of redundancy."

Tee Hee, that was good

I liked the Matrix, i liked talking about it, then again when it came out I was all of 14? so it was groundbreaking to ME. as i got older i realized 'Oh this is like this and that and this, but all together"
Its just after awhile I've heard every matrix story/idea/discuusion possible. its like talking about the JFK assassanition because you just watched Oliver stone's JFK

I just found SModcast and I think it's fan-freeking-tastic!! I'm working my way thorugh the Archives first to most recent. I've always liked Smith's films but I just found out about all this internet stuff! I hope he never quits doing SModcast! If adding the music is too much of a hassle, just chat without it! Even though I like the music track in the background. I wouldn't change a thing. SModcast is informative and highly entertaining!

I was tempted to post that ridiculously obvious retort directly in my original request, just to beat you to the punch - but thought I'd give you guys the benefit of the doubt.

You just confirmed that in the universe of Kevin Smith - this is the discussion forum with the per capita balance of angry, loser trash too cheap to lay down the measly $2. You know who you are.

As a follow-up to my previous post - I take back what I said. The shows with Jen as guest are great.

I'm still pretty new to the podcast thing. I like how on this site I can simply download the MP3's and then stick them on my player or whatever.

Couple questions though.

1. Most other sites want me to subscribe or play it on my computer. Is there a good site that has a lot of other radio or podcasts with mp3 format?

2. Anybody know of any other good podcasts (not featured here) that might be entertaining?

3. Have you noticed that the little comment section on the most recent smodcast has become it's own cute little message board?

Do you use iTunes? If not, that's probably the best way I can think of to find interesting and free podcasts. FanGirl is the one who could give you the best answer to this.

I just read it yesterday. What cracks me up is how everyone seems to be tip-toeing around the fact that they're pissed a new one hasn't come out in a few weeks. "Oh well, hopefully Zack and Miri is worth it." I love me some Kevin Smith, but it's like this is the first time they've felt him not deliver on a promise. Ouch.
