So I was chilling out relaxing minding my cool, then the fire alarm went off.
Ran outside. Waited, waited, waited, Saw a girl wearing nothing but a towel come out of the building, in winter, in Boston.
Come back in to find, that a pipe had burst on the roof 10 stories up and had been running for hours before the alarm went off.
So the top 4 floors, are fucked, and so was the street side of my Aparment. Couch Ruined with Dirty Water. So was my Brand New PC Chair (dammit I had barely broken it in) and alot of photos and stuff.
They didnt turn off our heat because its just the carpet and the wall on one side, so we didnt get put in a hotel for the night, but I am still out a couch and stuff I liked.
So am I footing the Bill for this, or is the Building paying for my broken stuff. It wasnt raining or anything it was just thier shitty 30 + year old Building falling apart.
Talked to my Wifes Brother the Lawyer and he said they should pay, and started drawing up a brief.
We wrote down everyones name and number and took alot of photos.
So we are waiting for the management office to open tommrow to annoy them and so I can get this nasty couch out of my aparment, get them to fix the ceiling (its got latex bubbles full of water.) and the carpet is going to need to be replaced, badly.
Any ideas?

In what kind of RED country would you NOT expect to get reimbursed?
...Any ideas?
Read your lease agreement.

Renter's Insurance...and if your lease covers as many possible scenarios as mine, you're fucked without it.
this is why you have Renters Insurance. Otherwise you're screwed. The letter from the Law Office might help you, but probably not.

Bleh.
Its such crap though
It would cost 3-4 times the amount of things damaged.
ALso, their pipe burst, they were working on it and didnt fix it right. They just flooded 10 stories of thier own building. So I gotta pay for their dumbass-idty? I'm not really out any money because the couch and such were a wedding gift. Its just taking them Forever to get thier shit together and pick up the mess.
I offered to move my tuined couch to the alley for pick up and they basically told me I couldnt do that. And that they would send some guys around. that was yesterday. Also the work crews who have been in here to look around broke our door.
I know I'm whining its just so damn stupid. I feel bad for this one lady. She was on a business trip and came home and no one could tell her what happened.
I missed work today because of this shit too.
I wanna throw a rock at a puppy.

I got renters insurance just specifically because I have a grand piano that would be ruined by sprinklers. I researched it and found out that I have NO legal recourse against the building if something where to happen, even during a test of the systems. It cost about $35 a month for all my stuff.

Best Idea of the day!
I have a puppy you can throw a rock at
By the way, I hate poodles.
I wanna throw a rock at a puppy.
I was going to say something nice, like I hope everything ends up ok or something like that, but the whole throwing a rock at a puppy thing is mean, so now I hope that puppy pisses on your already smelly couch and your bed. So there... :p

That shit sucks, dude. I had pretty much the same shit happen to me when i was living in TN. The apartment above me was vacant, and one of the pipes in that apartment burst, and flooded it. When the water came crashing through the ceiling Yes, I said crashing, not just leaking. Apparently the apartment above me had flooded about 3 feet deep due to the air tight door frame, and my bedroom cieling bubbled full of water while I was at work, and just as soon as I walked through the front door, I heard a loud *FWOOOOOOSH*, and saw water coming out of my room. The water had soaked my computer, my bed, and my entire bedroom carpet got soaked as well. At least my apartment manager put me in a hotel while they fixed my floor, and cieling. They tried to refuse to pay for my computer and bed, but after a little chat from my lawyer, they changed thier mind.

For real, yo :-)
Keeping up the building is not my problem if I am a renter. Maybe If I was in a Condo, or something.
