Anyone else file their taxes for '06 yet?

(I'm probably the first person in America... )

This year was not so bad. Since I bought a house, my return pretty much doubled... Awesome!

Now I can get those pectoral implants...

It doubles when you buy a house? My parents should have a nice tax return then. And I actually worked a full year for once...just at two different jobs. So mine will pretty nice as well. It could be 5 bucks and I would be happy...I could buy so much raman with that!

The second my W2 comes I will be booking it to H&R Block to do it. I usually get around $600 or so. This year 3/4 is going to pay off a credit card and the rest is going on a DVD splurge. I haven't done one in a while.

2005 was the first year I made over forty grand in wages and let me tell ya brother, if I was supposed to get back all the taxes I paid before that, the Feds owe me a SHITload of money. If I had any real desire to depress the crap out of myself, I'd dig into my files and tell you just how much I've paid in income taxes since 1988...

Not to intentionally start a firestorm of debate, I just wanted to insert a question for youze. When Alan Keyes was running for president against W the first of his terms, I remember I was still at college and he came there to talk. I was really impressed then by his platform to get rid of the income tax. He said it was unconstitutional, and I thought to myself, "This man is my hero." I would have voted for him then if he had had a chance against W. I think he would've been an awesome president, but ah well, that's neither here nor there.

So, the question is, what do you think our country would be like with no income taxes? I think the man was and still is ahead of his time, but I'll outright admit I'm no economist. In fact, Econ. was the only class I had to drop out of. Let me just say the idea appealed to me.

You can complain here and I won't say anything. I like complaining about taxes.

You are right about it being low[er] though. As a person here on a temp. work visa, they're still taking 40% of my salary in Slovakia. I think that's unpardonable.

When I left Iceland, because I had not worked a full year and my registered address was in the US, they gave me back about $2,000 in tax money.

Razorback
01-14-2007, 01:35 PM
I had to file some paperwork before I left the country and received the money through my bank account in Iceland. I was employed by an Icelandic company so I did not pay any taxes to the US.

You will have to check with the laws over there of course. I can't guarantee that you will receive any of that money back.

I does cost money the first year, but I think you can write off that money the next year (or so they tell me).

Personally I use the H&R block over the internets, I figure if I ever get audited that they will help me, so it's like insurance.

I've used Turbo Tax every year since we've been married, and it works like a champ. Way cheaper than H&R Block, plus I trust me more than the people that H&R Block trains for a week than has them do your taxes.

Two years ago we got back every penny that we paid. That's what happens when you own a house, both go to school, and have two kids, both of them in daycare. With number three on the way, I assume that they'll be paying me to be an American!

I think $40, and if you wait a month or so, retailers start trying to out-do each other by giving stuff away with a purchase of TurboTax. I got a 512MB flash drive with my copy last year.

TurboTax is super easy to use and seemingly very thorough (is that spelled right?). I highly recommend it.

Yeah. You have to be online to file when you finish. I think you have to be online for other parts as well, but for the final part, I'm sure. It's not too hard though--you get a login just like with here. You login, do your thing, print it out. I'm right, aren't I folks?

You only have to be on to check for updates or to down load the state software if you don't buy it at the store (it usually is free after rebate). I guess they make TurboTax early enough in the prior year that there may be tax code changes. After that you don't have to be connected unless you want to submit electronically - you can print it out and mail it in if you're not in a hurry to get yo' money.

I've done it every year with dial-up, so it isn't too bandwith-heavy.

I ended up paying someone $65 to do my taxes for me. Alot easier than: buying a program, installing it, getting dial up connection and then figuring out how to enter in and file all the crap. Hmm, only took an hour of my time, and I learned what info I need to start and keep track of our new business. Getting a little over $2,000 back. Well, I am suppose to split it with my husband and I guess we both decided that it would be best if we put it towards our credit card.
