I was at a singing session on St Stephen's day last year and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqFmNUz7WhY) song was struck up by two of the guys on guitars. I was transfixed for the whole thing.

Eddie Vedder - Guaranteed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f69QnJHUJS4)

On bended knee is no way to be free
Lifting up an empty cup I ask silently
That all my destinations will accept the one that's me
So I can breathe

Circles they grow and they swallow people whole
Half their lives they say goodnight to wives they'll never know
Got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul
And so it goes

Don't come closer or I'll have to go
Owning me like gravity are places that pull
If ever there was someone to keep me at home
It would be you

Everyone I come across in cages they bought
They think of me and my wandering but I'm never what they thought
Got my indignation but I'm pure in all my thoughts
I'm alive

Wind i my hair I feel part of everywhere
Underneath my being is a road that disappeared
Late at night I hear the trees they're singing with the dead
Overhead

Leave it to me as I find a way to be
Consider me a satellite forever orbiting
I knew all the rules but the rules did not know me
Guaranteed

I've probably posted this before, but it's worth it.

What the Hell Have I (http://youtu.be/qKXIk45pL0o) - Alice in Chains

Having never bothered to watch Last Action Hero and not having bought the box set or compilations because I already own every studio album and EP, I never heard this until last weekend. The Golden Age (http://youtu.be/mzoeh6Q6Kig) - The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

I heard it in that Heineken commercial and it stuck like a ten penny nail driven into an oak tree. I'd pretty much given up on any new bands years ago- the last album I bought was Social D- they've been around since the 70's...

Of course, it might have something to do with the singer being blonde and Dutch. (I live with one :D) But the few songs (http://youtu.be/XXKEQB5Fzao) I've heard from them so far have... I dunno... I can't really put it into words. They make me want to watch all the Sean Connery Bond films back to back to back.

Am I the only fan of this particular slice of Americana (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rXZVKYEIH8)? They rocked my teenaged world.

The first 2 hits were popular when my wife and I were separated.(1997-1998) They seemed to always be playing on the radio when we would run into eachother. I felt like I was going to die for a couple of months. I found some of the other songs in the shit faced years that followed. The b sides still make me feel a little guilty, probably because of the back pack of self pitty I carried with me through those years.

My drunken favorites:

For you and me both. Their new album was almost all we listened to at By-tor's house after D*C.

Strange, I heard the new RHCP and just thought...boring. I realized that everything I liked about the band is gone and the mellow adult contemporary side has taken over. You can keep the new album, I will go listen to Mother's Milk or Uplift MoFo Party Plan. But that is just me.

I hear you, but I've enjoyed them more and more as they have "mellowed". Some of their pre-Blood Sugar Sex Magik stuff feels a bit samey to these ears. I think they have matured musically with age, and have been producing their best work for the last ten years.

I do so love this track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdcgSU0igZg) off the new album.

That is, I admit a nice track, with a really nice bass brake.

To my ears, the modern stuff sounds samey. I long for the days when Flea had a pair of balls behind his bass lines. I think that is most of my issue. Flea was unique and I just don't hear it anymore. At least not enough to keep me on board, but I keep trying with every album because when they rock, they rock.

This cover (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5HEXKtUK18&feature=related) is fucking amazing. (At least to me ;).)

It's wonderful how they translate the melody for the guitar and uke. In case you haven't heard, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj9IAvv32wE) is the original.

Of all the orchestras I've heard perform this symphony, I do believe the Dublin Philharmonic is the best.

Yeah, they are fairly eclectic, but they always keep things pretty mellow. Here are a few tracks of theirs that I liked, picked at random:

Universal Traveller (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abkIjdT0uTk)

All I Need (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqBCOBRcMqc&feature=related) (I'm not crazy about the video interrupting the song)

Le Soleil Est Près De Moi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZWA3O3610o&feature=related)

Cherry Blossom Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fmMK0lfv80&feature=related)

Talisman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv3kpu8l0Ik&feature=related) (live)

And last but not least, it's an obvious choice, but a great tune all the same: Sexy Boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_ulZiob5I0)

This stuff totally brings me back to being sixteen.
