View Full Version : I seem to have discovered the secret to losing weight

Ok, I am serious... this seems to work really well. In about a month I easily dumped 15 lbs by just doing this (granted, I am fat as hell, but still). Eat no more than 500 calories a day for 6 days... then eat whatever the fuck you like on the 7th. I mean, that... though, by that point you won't be able to put as much as usual in your system, but I ate about 5,000 calories in one day and lost 5 lbs that week. It seems the more I am able to eat on that 7th day, the more I lose. Unfortunately, the more I do this the less I seem to be able to eat on that day.
I should say that this could be a terrible kick to the system, but I find it kind of easy, at least when compared to other diets I have been on. I can pretty much eat something all day to get my 500 calories (veggie soups are wonderful since, if you make them right, they contain tons of negative calories). Lately, most of my calories come from iced drinks like the Coffee Coolata from Dunkin Donuts, or the Iced Venti Chai from Starbucks... though, I am now getting these with skim milk (less fat, less calories... less horrid affect on my system).
On the 7th day (or really, any day I choose in the 7 day period) I don't worry about calories or fat content... though, a few times I had to force myself to eat something since I have found if I diet for 7 days, I seem to lose very little, if nothing. My system seems to get used to any diet after a while and just stops losing weight. This diet seems to trick my system into thinking I need more calories a week and before it can adjust to my low calorie intake, I trick it by taking in more than it was adjusting for my body.
Now, I know some of our diet experts in here will tell you that you need to eat 5 small meals a day, and exercise... and I agree. However, you clearly do not need to eat over 1,000 calories, and you DO NOT need to eat what you want in small portions. Just hold out for 6 days and then CHOW DOWN! :)

Damn, I should try that. Nothing else helps, and I'm 350 lbs. I think the fact that I sit in front of the computr all day doesn't help much either. But I barely eat anyways, but the one meal I do eat a day has about 3000 calories due to the fact that it's usually a couple of bologna sandwiches with loads of mayo on em. Or ramen noodles, which I can't even hold down anymore.

Try it and see what happens. However, you MUST count your calories for six of seven days. You can probably go as high as 1,000 but to lose one pound you need to burn 3,500 calories in a week. So, if your body needs 3,000 calories to maintain its weight, you need to cut out 500 calories of your normal intake to lose that pound.
At 350 lbs your body probably needs 4,000 calories to maintain its weight... funny thing about the body is that while "normal" weight people need about 2,500 calories to maintain their weight, overweight people can eat far more and not actually gain weight... unfortunately, your body will also think it requires more and go into starvation mode if you deprive it of that amount, meaning you NEVER LOSE WEIGHT, or lose weight very slowly. So, what you need to do is trick your body into thinking that you are NOT starving it. I believe that is how the 7th-day binge diet works.
I should warn you that losing too much weight in a short time will result in the need for serious plastic surgery... so, if you find yourself losing 50lbs in a month, eat more calories during the six day period. You do not want to lose more than 15 or even 10 lbs in a month. Sure, it means for a slower process, but it will save you headaches in the future. Plus, you can exercise and build up muscle. It is more important that you lose INCHES than pounds, unless you are a boxer or wrestler. :)
In fact, you SHOULD exercise no matter what. At least 30 minutes a day. You need to start trying to tone up portions of your body. I know it sucks, and at 350 lbs you are in constant pain from your muscles never doing anything, BUT DO IT! You are saving your life. It will also give you a sense of purpose. TRUST ME. I know. If you need a fat buddy to help you along, I am here for you. ;)

That’s really cool. Good job! May this method forever be known as the Razorback Diet. (move over Atkinson!)
I might try to do the complete reverse; eat as much as I can for 6 days, then starve on the 7th because I could do with gaining a stone, except no matter what I try, I stay the same weight. I think I've put on a little over christmas though.

Gaining weight is easy, even for people who have been thin for most of their life. Write down what you eat for a week. Don't change your diet at all. Then add the calories per day and per week. Check to see if you lost or gained weight in that time. Then add 3,500 - 7,000 calories to your weekly diet (eat 500 - 1,000 calories a day more than you need, on average). You will gain weight fast. However, the more weight you gain the more calories you need to eat. So, increase your intake until you have gained what you need.
I used to do this while lifting, but mostly with protein. I could get big very fast... though, that was a long time ago when I thought 170 lbs was fat. :D

Secret to losing weight:
Discipline.
Eat SOME Pizza, not ALL the pizza.
Eat slowly until you are full, then quit.
AND
Excercise... Walk to the corner store that is only 2 blocks away instead of driving...
I am sorry, but unless you have some sort of problem with your body (Thyroid, can't walk, extremely slow metabolism etc) I have no pity on the huge.
Just be a little more active... You can eat what you want, if you bike 10 miles a day for example....
Find creative ways to have fun while exercising, drink beer watching the downstairs TV while pissing in the upstairs toilet....

If I was in the least bit condescending, that was not what I was trying to accomplish. My point is this: do not expect me to feel pity for you for being fat, if you are not doing anything about it.
If you are eating 4 pizzas a day, drinking a case of beer, have a bedpan beside your couch, do not expect me to feel pity on you because you are obese. DO not expect me to feel sorry for you because "You need a closer parking spot" because you get winded going into your local store.
I am in no way superior to anyone, my chances to succeed in life are no better than yours.
But do not expect me to feel pity for someone who does nothing to get themselves out of a situation they do not like.

It seems women have an easier time losing weight than men, they just always think they're fat, so they complain that they ain't losing it. I'm one fat dude, but being 6'5" kinda proportions the weight out, so I ain't as fat as I would be if say, I were 5'6" and 350 lbs.

Geez I can't believe I'm doing this and it may cause me physical pain but I agree with Razorback. I took offence to your original pity statement. Having been larger I'll give you the tip - I wasn't looking for pity from anyone and the fact that you think fat people "expect" your pity is ignorant and complete BS.
And even though I don't agree with RB's diet plan, nothing in his post was bitching about being fat.

I do not care if you are overweight, if you drink yourself to death, if you smoke crack, or whatever your vices are....
I don't believe I ever said I hate all fat people or anything of the like.
All I attempting to say, is that too many people try to blame someone else for their addictions / vices / problems, and expect others to feel sorry for them.
If you weigh 500 lbs and enjoy life, good for you! Be happy. I was at one time close to 300 lbs, and one day I just decided I was going to lose, and stopped eating all the crap I did, and lost over 50 lbs (still got 20 or so to go).
The easy way out which hardly ever works. Temporarily maybe, but not permanently.

I do seem to have a problem taking my vitamins. I don't take pills often (even for pain or a cold) and forget just about every other day that I need to pop some vitamins.
Today I ate about 400 calories. Tomorrow I will probably consume about 2,000 so it should even out... unless I eat less. Not sure. Sushi might be the food of choice. I love that stuff. I can eat a ton of that stuff and only take in about 700 calories.
I mean that, an actual ton.

When you're eating a literal ton of sushi, I think that calorie intake loses its importance. By that time you're just taking on the weight of all the sushi you've eaten. That is going to be one hell of a bathroom break the next day.

Anyway, yesterday I ate a whole whopping 400 calories, 12 grams of fat, and 14 grams of fiber!
Wooohooo! So, today I am chowing down on a good 2,000 calories to make up for it. Interestingly enough, I ate three times yesterday... so, maybe I am still tricking my body into thinking it is being given enough to eat. ;)
I am not really feeling any loss of energy but I have been sleeping more hours (around 6, from my usual 2 to 4)... when I actually sleep. When I start needing naps during the day and 10 total hours to function, I will worry.
I am a bit worried about losing too much weight too fast. I have dropped over a size in clothes, in a month. Granted, some of that could have been water weight but I have not lost this quickly before, even when I was on Atkins (took me about 2 months to lose this amount on that diet). So, I hope I am not losing too much muscle.
I am exercising and trying to build up muscle but without any real equipment (other than some weights) I am not affecting all the right areas. Thankfully, I have several members of my family who are personal trainers so I will seek their help soon. Once I reach my goal weight (realistically, sometime next year) I will write a book and sell it for $29.95 to members of this board. ;)

Yeah your Diet does sound like it is making you less fat, but also less muscle and less healthy. Most of it IS water weight. ALso Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you start losing muslce you will be losing weight but in a bad way. You said you had to sleep more becuase you had no energy.
Thats like me saying, I weigh 100 pounds but I can only get up to go to the bathroom and have to have an IV being chewing is too hard.
Really you should just try jogging and eating right, it works wonders. Cut out the junk food and soda and run everyother day and you will be healthier for it. You will sleep better, feel better, and have better sex.
Why dont I do it? Because I am a lazy sack of crap.
But when I did, I gained muscle, I lost weight and I felt great.

I still seem to have a ton of energy (all I said was I sleep a bit more). Plus, I am exercising... but not jogging (and that is not happening, I have no interest in screwing my knees up any more). As for fast food, I have not had much of that, and what I have had has been the healthier choices on the menu (like, no cheese, no mayo, usually nothing fried). The only soda I drink is diet, and I have cut that down as well.
At worst, I need to eat a bit more food. I just don't feel all that hungry.

I am currently working on the 25 Texas pounds (as I like to name them since they are directly relational to fantastic food and margaritas in the Lone Star state.) I am down 9 already. Since I have always worked out 3-5 times a week I just cut out the sugary drinks and less of the super fattening things I was eating.
I about keeled over when I read that Chicken Quesidillas at most restaurants are about 1200 calories. That is my whole daily allowance! Then add a margarita (or four) and I was consuming double my daily allotment in one meal. Amazing.
I think it's great that you are doing so well. One thing I have learned is that every body responds differently to certain types of diets and it takes a while to find what works for you. Even when other people recommend other things it doesn't always work. My mom loses weight on Weight Watchers and it does nothing for me. My other friend is a vegetarian and I couldn't live that way. Telling me to exercise is pointless since I already do that.
Keep up the good work.

Haven't had a drop of alcohol in 7 days, and have already dropped 5 pounds. I'm sober this year except for the Tastydactyls trip to Ireland at the end of May. No way I'm going over there and not having a few pints. Anyway, work-out starts this week. I tried to stop alcohol, cigarettes, and start working out all together last week. That just wasn't gonna work. Had a half cig going to work, a half cig coming home until we went into the studio this weekend. There the cigs won out. Those are harder to stop than the booze, and I've been a flaming alcoholic since my 20's. I've gone without booze for a full year, two different times in the last 10 years. My family LOVED it. Playing gigs, and watching football are the hardest times for me to do without. Good luck to the rest of you and your diet and work-out regimens.

A friend of mine has lost a lot of weight on WW by using a similar method to mine. She eats her points during the week and then takes one or two days and eats whatever she wants. Seems to be working for her as well (though, she is probably eating at least 1,200 calories a day otherwise).
If you stay on a "regular" diet for too long, your body will adapt and you will start to lose weight slower. That is why some will tell you to jump on an Atkins-like diet (high protein) for a couple of weeks just to shock your body back into losing weight again.
Unless you are hardcore exercising, or have the metabolism of a 17-year old track and field athlete, you are going to have a hard time fighting to lose the last few pounds post-20s.

If you exercise enough, the calorie intake isn't as important as the fat intake.
The Big Mac sandwich has 30 grams of fat.
I found out today that my bacon ranch salad, from McDonalds, with the crispy chicken and ranch dressing has 31 grams of fat.
WHAT?!!!
Feb 05 I was sitting at about 200lbs. Then I retired from the Air Force and shot up to about 222lbs by Jul 05. Yeah, no longer forced to participate in mandatort PT programs. Since then, I have been bouncing back and forth between 215 and 220. I think I just broke the 215 barrier and am now bouncing back and forth between 213 and 215. My old low is now my new high. I really need to get to 185 to 190, but I am not sure if that is possible. I used to run about three days a week just to maintain 200, but that was way too hard on my already shot ankle and knee, so that is now out of the question.

if you weigh in at 230lbs you should try to go on a 1500-1800 calorie diet a day and should do a cardio workout of about 45 mins a day and make sure to do mild toning excersies. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat so if you put on a few pounds in the beginning dont give up. I have lost over 60lbs since April with nothing but hard work and restraint. I also gave up smoking. I stick to my regiment and follow what I need to to get to my goal weight. Good luck man.
You will need to lose about 100lbs. So I suggest a slow start or you will burn out. I burnt out in August and gained back 15lbs in 1 month. So be confident and please dont give up. Take it easy and pills dont work so dont waste your money on that shit.

Use that calculator to find out. Remember to change to your correct sex. :) Otherwise you will get the wrong number.
You will probably find yourself around 2800 calories but check it out anyway.
As a side note, here are the foods you can eat as much of and NEVER worry about counting your calories because your body spends more calories burning than they contain:
Vegetables
Asparagus, Beet Root, Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrot, Cauliflower, Celery, Chicory, Hot Chili, Cucumber, Garden cress, Garlic, Green Beans, Lettuce, Onion, Radish, Spinach, Turnip, Zucchini,
Fruits
Apple, Blueberries, Cantaloupe, Cranberry, Grapefruit, Honeydew, Lemon/Lime, Mango, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pineapple, Raspberry, Strawberry, Tomato, Tangerine, Turnip, Watermelon
You are welcome. :)

I am halfway to my goal. I was almost done but I gained five pounds back on SuperBowl Sunday at my party. Since I have two friends who are well-known chefs I was doomed from the start. Then I made beer braised brats and Polish Sausage Maxwell Street style and a variety of dips and carbo laden junk food.
It was worth it. I comforted myself with it later after our loss.

You sure those five pounds are not just water weight? It is really difficult to gain five fat pounds in one day unless you eat like 25,000 calories. :)

Are you sure? That's a real accomplishment, 5 lbs in one day, even Super Bowl Sunday..
I have tried to gorge myself and put on at most like 2 lbs.

Oh, I am sure it is water weight in combination with other factors. My body can fluctuate up to seven pounds in one day depending. I am one of those people.
However, it is highly possible that I did eat 25,000 calories on Sunday. I think a cheese filled brat is about 15,000 on its own. :-)

I know some weight lifters who are looking for this brat. ;)

I have the secret brat weapon in my home. It is big, long, filled with cheese, and comes in a carb laden bun smothered with onions and more cheese, ketchup and for the disgusting people...mustard and sauerkraut.
Johnsonville also makes special bun size heart defibrillators that come with it.
It's awesome!

But...do you cook them in beer? That could add a few calories.
Yeah I'm with RB, can I come over next time?

Sure, I will throw a party again next year. This year we had about 40 people and ran out of sitting places. It was a lot of fun.
I will be sure to get all the Bratwurst I can find!

Except for the crying right? I know you cried when those Bears lost.
Bamss's Super Bowl Review:
Mr. Urlacher meet Mr. Manning, Mr. Manning meet..... Oh, he ran away. Nevermind.
Mr. Grossman meet Mr Fumble-ruskie...
Mr. Grossman meet Mr. Hayden...
Mr. Grossman meet Mr. Saunders...
Mr. Grossman meet Mr. You-lost-your-damn-job!
I have to admit, being from Chicago, it was hard to watch the Bears crumble and fall like that.
However, it was great to see Manning win. I am a huge fan.

Yeah, I am in for a superbowl party at Zens. Cheese brats are one of the best things to come out of Wisconsin.
I was rooting for Chi-town, the only reason I liked Indy is because of Dungy. Manning is good, maybe to become the best QB of all time blah blah blah, if they lose, he whine's and throws a teammate under the bus. The only reason you don't see it more is because they win most of thier games, I like people who can deal with winning and losing with equal grace. Especially if you win a shitload more than you lose. Who knows, maybe this will get the chip off his shoulder.

It won't be a real Super Bowl party without an Australian. You have a year to save up. Put away $5 every day for a year (that is $12,000 Canadian dollars... not sure what that is in Australian funny money).

Oh, who am I kidding? I don't sleep with anyone unless I care about them emotionally. I am such a sap!
