So, I was perusing my work related blogs and found this story (http://www.longtail.com/the_long_tail/2006/12/im_not_responsi.html) on our founder and patriarch.
And I found it first! I'm so much cooler than everyone. Maybe he'll finally post on here, just to tell me how much cooler I am than all of you.

Yeah, to your mom...
about you...
...and you heard it 'cause you're in your mom's basement.

I've wondered about that myself. I'll be honest, I'm not such a devotee that I just blindly enjoy everything KS does. I didn't like some of his movies as much as others. I'm a big Clerks fan, and I enjoyed Clerks 2, but mainly as an offshoot of the original. I think KS has been riding his own coattails for a while now, but it doesn't mean he's not doing other stuff [his comics] or that the relevancy of his movies isn't constantly being rediscovered by newbs to his material. I DO wish he could come up with a new set of movies like the first, with new actors that has the same kind of 'indestructible' shelf life about them, because I like to love his stuff. I just didn't enjoy Jersey Girl or Clerks 2 as much as his first movies.
I don't know about his 'chicken or egg' question. All I can say for sure is I want more of KS's stuff, and the more he starts from scratch, I think the more we'll really get to see what he's made of.
PS: I never really asked this, but is the special edition of Clerks [I guess for special features, etc.] worth having over the first DVD release?

Yeah, I always wondered how Kevin was so successful, being anti-Hollywood for a very long time. And I always wanted to pinpoint why he got to where he is, and it seems that a few people have been trying.
And it's odd my staunch loyalty for a guy who hasn't made a relevant movie in nearly ten years and won't acknowledge our presence on this board, while being so great about interacting with his fans, but maybe Chasing Amy left such an impression that I'm holding standards way too high, or I just don't care.
I'll admit that I buy less than I used to, and I can pinpoint that moment when I became less of a fan when watching the DVD An Evening with Kevin Smith, but Kev still got a good chunk of my total lifetime income.
It is nice to see something that I was there from the beginning turn into one of these generation-transcending dealies.
I don't know about his 'chicken or egg' question. All I can say for sure is I want more of KS's stuff, and the more he starts from scratch, I think the more we'll really get to see what he's made of.Well, that's why it's a "Chicken or Egg" question: you aren't supposed to have the definitive answer.
PS: I never really asked this, but is the special edition of Clerks [I guess for special features, etc.] worth having over the first DVD release? Are you speaking of the ten year edition of Clerks? If so, the ten year version is the one to get. Has the old commentary, the new commentary, the original version of the film before it was doctored up, the Q&A after the official anniversary screening...so yeah, definitely worth it.
And to someone out in the Askewniverse Cyber community, there had better be a ten year Amy Disc!
