You are saving the human race (and your life) from Zombies, how do you prepare?
The Zombies are (of course) a mixture of slow moving amoeba like masses and the occasional quick loner. They are gnawy, scratchy, grabby, and seem to have a taste for flesh and brains. No one knows when, where, or what started turning humans into zombies but apparently getting bit will turn you into one. Mass media recommends that you "Stay at home, do not try to travel to reach loved ones, and if you do encounter a zombie, they can only be stopped by severe head injury."
I will go first:
I would make sure that I had some good weapons and armor because it is guaranteed that I am going outside for some reason. If memory serves, most zombies bite on the forearms, head, and neck (or am I thinking of vampires). I have always had a problem over packing, but in this case I will go with the 'better safe than sorry' mentality.
Because I haven't stocked my house to prepare for Armageddon I have to start with almost nothing. I would get the heaviest cloth I could and put it on my forearms, then some type of collar around my neck, a bucket on my head (for effect), this should work as a temporary defense. I would grab a large backpack and load it with water, food, a knife, comb (if I get on TV I want to look good), medicine, lighter, TP, a flashlight, sleeping bag, etc. (basic camping essentials). For a weapon I would have to start with a baseball bat, it's the only thing in my house that could be used to beat something senseless. It will probably be fun to bludgeon a couple zombies to start, but killing zombies by violently whacking them will probably tire me out. Getting a more efficient weapon will be of utmost concern.
My first stop would be a gun store for ammo and a shotgun, as I live in Boulder it may be a long trip. I would always be on the lookout for something more bite resistant (and comfortable, that bucket is probably a little clunky). This would hopefully be located in a large indoor mall to help me bide my time, it should help to provide basic essentials (widescreen TV, new kicks, cool zombie killing cameo pants). It would also serve as a good rendezvous point for friends and family. I would further arm myself with a machete, mace (has anyone tried that on a zombie yet?) and some type of exploding device. A liquor store would seem a good idea; Molotov cocktails and a quick swig of liquid courage. I would spend my time trying to stay alive, rescue loved ones, and trying to find out what caused this whole zombie mess.
That is my plan, what would you do?

I Would also probably get some armor.
Since I live in a area near a mall I would grab any thing that is imortant to me put it in a bag lock the door to my house just incase I ever need to go back there and then I would run to the mall with all my blunt obgects in hand (Like My solidwood Kendo Stick and Hocky and in the mall I would grab 2 guns a bow and some arrows just for fun. then i would hotwire a car and drive to the school I go to fined a safe class room and fine some more people to help me baricade the school (just in case). There is a mall near by the school I go to if we need any thing else (there are 2 malls in the city I live) then after a wile I would gather as many people as I could to gether in the school and make wepons out of some tools from the shop class. and weight for it to blow over.

If there ever was a zombie outbreak, I'd barricade every window/front and back entrance, demolish the staircase, climb upstairs and hide out. I'd also keep the loft staircase down, just in case any zombies manage to climb onto the first floor, then I'd have a 'fall back' area to run to. For sure, with the loft staircase pulled up, no zombies would be able to get up. With all available food stacked up there, I would wait it out for a week until I made any other major decisions.
I wouldn’t try to find out the cause of the zombie apocalypse. Me and my brother have been saying for years, it'll eventually come. That’s good enough for us. As for saving family. Big mistake. Best to conserve energy; load up on light weaponry - a mix of long sighted and close combat weapons. If I could carry any weapon, it would be two hand guns, a katana, plus a belt full of grenades.
And a shotgun, just to look cool.

I live in a three story building where I am the primary crisis management person. I would get together a few of the neighbors I know well and get them to help me evacuate all of the people on the first floor along with any supplies. I would check to make sure we have no infected in the building.
I would move all the civilians up to the third floor and use the second floor for the people who can handle a weapon. We would move the pop machine in front of the front door. Block side doors with couches and then destroy the stairs leading to the second floor. I'd have two man teams patroling the stairs and roof.
Meanwhile, I would have the civilians filling up any bathtubs and containers with drinkable water in case the water shuts off. I'd have anyone with a cell phone charging it up and not using it to make calls unless it was an emergency. We would inventory and ration the food up. I would have someone man my Red Cross radio listening for any special instructions.
I maintain this postion and then if it continued long enough then we would go in teams for supplies. My building has no police, military or medical personnal so it would be pretty much me running the show. The nearest gun shop is over 2 miles away.

If you lived here the nearest gun shop would most likely be on your block, although my boyfriend bought a gun in the Red Lobster parking lot the other day so it could be closer.

1. Get goalie's mask and other hockey equipment for protection.
2. I own two shotguns with lots of ammo (family heirlooms).
3. Binoculars, food, camping equipment. See if I can't find a hunting rifle with a telescopic site.
4. Recruit my neighbor or steal his SUV and if I have time, hook it up to his trailer with two four-wheelers, camping gear and a generator in it
5. Head out to the salt flats where I can see any zombie or anything else coming from miles away.
6. The city isn't safe in case there are fires or military action. I'd hate to get mistaken for a zombie by somebody else.
7. The salt flats are also home to a military test site (Dugway Proving Grounds, I have pics from Google Earth) so I'm going to assume the source of the zombies is out there along with secure military bunkers that may or may not be safe places to hang out.
Also, if we've learned anything from Shawn of the Dead, it's that we should take acting classes in order to blend in with the zombies better.

Beware of the zombies that turned while in their cars. They wn't know how to drive nor will they know how to unbuckle or open the door. This may make it difficult to drive.
Zombie drivers I'm not worried about... they can't be any worse than Neopolitans or the human stains that drive the 75/85 Connector.

Children Please!
First
"Armour"
First Chain Maille Long Sleave Vest. Riot Helmet, Thick Leather Gloves (think the kind they handle dogs in) Thick Boots, and THick Work Pants, dog forget to wear Knee Pads and Elbow pads.
Full Riot Gear would be great in a pinch
Weapons?
Pistol for Back up,
and a Single Shot Semi Auto Rifle. No Shotguns (heads shots are harder)
Also Crossbow, its quiet and it wont attract "roamer" Zombies
Blunt Weapons? A Long Pike. A short sword, a hatchet
Your Team
Fast, Young, Healthy, and Smart
No Kids, no Dogs, no Old people, no Sickies
Place to stay?
A Prison, duh. Lost of food, meds, weapons, clothes, and its harder to get in and OUT of a Prison, so the zombies should have ahard time getting in.
Try and head away from the city, dont stop near hostipals, police stations, ect. Watch out for major highways (lots of dead people there)
Try and travel as far as possible in a vechile, but have back ups like a Bike.
Also load up on books, and games, and puzzles, Power wont last long and boredom kills
Also load up on books about how to grow your own food
Also load up on Asprin, Pencillan, and Sleeping pills.

Lock myself in the basement and wait for it all to go away. I'll save all the zombie fighting to yous guys, while I chill peacefully downstairs playing some Resident Evil where at least the zombies are fake...
Then, when it all blows over, I'll sift throught the bodies of the heroes, and collect some wallets. It pays to be a coward.
1. Get goalie's mask and other hockey equipment for protection.
2. I own two shotguns with lots of ammo (family heirlooms).
1. Ok, please explain how exactly a hockey mask and a few pads is gonna protect you from the undead when they're crawling all over your stupid ass while you're chillin in the wide open salt flats and
2. YOU RUN OUT OF SHOTGUN AMMO!
You may have lots of ammo, but lets do a little mathematical equation:
You start out with 1 zombie (best case scenario). This zombie bites one person. You now have 2 zombies. These two bite 2 more. You now have 4 zombies. These four bite 4 more people, you now have 8 zombies....etc. Now, there seems to be a massive hoard of zombies, expanding like a snowball as it comes towards your location, and you're chillin out in the middle of nowhere. Too bad there ain't a cheat code for this situation. Unlimited ammo might help...
Have fun with that, I'm in my basement eatin' Pringles and watchin the news.....there goes the newscaster, switching the channel now....

I'd probably go to live with the eskimos or something. They know how to sustain themselves in the cold, and I'm sure that even a zombie couldn't survive a night in sub-zero temperatures. There's gotta be a point where muscle tissue freezes rendering it useless.
I'm beginning to think that some of us should band together and try to get a research grant from a university. What college student wouldn't sign up for the "Quick Stop Zombie Defense Research Project"?

I was re-reading these and I have to advise against any masks. You want to have full range of vision to make sure you are completely aware of all 6 sides.
Also, you should keep in mind zombies that may be crawling on the ground because someone knocked out their legs, but didn't kill them. Always head for higher ground. And please, if you are going to attack a zombie - make sure you get the brain. Otherwise, you're just making it harder for the rest of us.
If you are able, make sure you take them out before they can make their call and alert others to your location.
I went to Disneyland this weekend and our new game to play while waiting in those long lines was "If zombies were to attack us right now, where would you go?" It works for immediate lines and then we got into long discussions on our overall plan. We determined that it would just absolutely suck all the way around. I argued that I would rather take my chances and head for the underground tunnels under Disney than try and outrun/fight large mobs of zombies. The acceptable alternative to underground is to get to the island because the shores are smooth concrete and the zombies wouldn't be able ot climb out.

True, but what if the virus is transmitted not only through bites, but blood, too? In close quarter battles, the blood may be spilling over you. Some sort of mask (I'm not sure what type) may be vital.
After all, we all know what happened to this fella:

I always thought high ground would be far safer then anywhere underground. There’s dead ends down there, and passages where if you get caged in; your in trouble! Although I guess in a theme park, underground may be the only viable place to flee.
Talking of Zombies, I’ve heard Dead Rising 2 will be based in and around a theme park, so we can try out these options for (somewhat) real soon enough.

Saftey googles and a breathing mask would do the same trick without impairing your vision.

I agree that speed and mobility are probably your best defense against zombie mobs, line of sight is key. Ugh, Disneyland is probably the worst place you could be caught in a zombie attack. Tunnels seem risky because if the power is cut you are in complete darkness. Then again, fighting the crowds at Disney is bad enough, just imagine if they all wanted your blood/brains.
An island is a good idea but I am going to have to go with 'ride Space Mountain till the zombie attack is over', I mean if you are moving that fast no zombies could catch you, and it is not violent enough to make you puke after 100 rides :)

We should designate a way or place for us to all hook up after the war. The internets may not still be maintained. May be hard to find each other. I say since the resurrection of these boards was on April 1st. We should all make that the day we try to communicate. We should pick a place we all try to get to or call. Someplace that will still be there after the war. Since we have so many Texans - how about the Alamo?

Rep. Todd Akin (R-Missouri) on Zens and Robbo meeting at the Alamo in the event of a zombie apocalypse:
"Could you picture Robbo and Zens at the Alamo looking at their Blackberries getting a message from Congress? 'Robbo and Zens, we support you. The only thing is we are not going to send any troops.' I’m sure that would really be impressive to Robbo and Zens."

The only thing that would really impress me in that situation is if Robbo actually owned a Blackberry, which is highly unlikely.
Also we wouldn't really need to have congress send any troops since they are already essentially here. With Fort Hood, the "340 square mile installation (217,337 acres), it is the only post in the United States capable of stationing and training two Armored Divisions.
In addition to the 1st Cavalry Division and 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood is also residence for Headquarters Command III Corps, 3d Signal Brigade, 3d Air Support Operations Group, 13th Corps Support Command (COSCOM), 13th Finance Group, 21st CAV Brigade (Air Combat), 89th Military Police Brigade, 504th Military Intelligence Brigade, the Dental Activity (DENTAC), the Medical Support Activity (MEDDAC), U.S. Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC), and various other units and tenant organizations.
