No, but it's my dads favorite show. Before that his favorite show was Nash Bridges, so that should tell you something about your taste in shows.

I feel the need to revive this because of my recent interest in the show.
I think it is the perfect blend of comedy and drama.
Anyone else watch?

I'm gonna have to agree with you. It seems to have more of a sense of humour about itself unlike the various CSIs. It's a fun show to watch

Me loves it.
And... as Ozchick is still around... after Kate got shot we got Ziva.
Much more awesome. And much funnier. And yummy.

Kate was cool and all but Ziva brings a bit more humor to the mix with her mistakes in American terms of phrase.

Never been a fan. Quite bland, really.
Now, Ziva + Tony + McGee = WIN. Add Gibbs, Abby and Ducky and you get awesome.

I thought awesome came before Win on the charts... however it could be win with a side of awesome.

Hm, whatever, I was blinded by the presence of a Funaki and couldn't discern. I humbly beg for the online FRED community's pardon.

It's all good :) Funaki himself is enough to distract.

Oh poor Kate :(

I have only watched a few episodes since. Don't have anything against Ziva just lost interest. Have so many programs to watch and no time!

I just got in a drunken argument last night claiming this show was exactly like CSI. Seriously, the only difference between the titles is one letter.

This show and CSI are different. CSI doesn't have much comedy. NCIS is full of funny.

Quoting Tony DiNozzo, NCIS is like CSI only if you are dyslexic. :D
Indeed, it does have some points in common. But they are shot in very, very different styles. While CSI is focused exclusively on the crime committed and the solution of the same, with the personal stories of the characters barely hinted at or used as fillers at best, NCIS blends the two elements and adds some comedy.

When I watch this show it's like I'm hearing a Siren's Song that urges me, beyond my will, to tie a plastic bag around my head until I suffocate. No, really.

And that goth chick makes me want to go to Hot Topic and lace all of the glitter and Black #1 with anthrax.

So yeah, not real fond of it. ;)

From what I've seen, yeah I get that NCIS has a lighter touch. The truth is, I, like most people, watched CSI when it was first on, and gradually stopped caring about it (except for the Tarantino directed episode which was probably somewhere around season 4). Then years later, everyone is raving about this NCIS show, so I try watching it and fail to see what the big deal is. Solving cases with new fangled forensic sciences and a bit of old fashioned detective work? Sorry, but the structure is too similar for me to start giving a damn again.

I think that this is a similar reason as to why I love Fringe so damn much. It's Kind of like a CSI show mixed with a very healthy dose of X-Files and sci fi in general. Most of those CSI shows and their respective clones are all ok, but they lack something that should be drawing me to them. Fringe has a fresh feel to me. Nothing groundbreaking, but adding just enough to keep the formula from being stale. Plus, Walter Bishop is a great character that is acted to perfection.

Feel free to slag it, God knows I do a fair share of shit giving, but I think it's the Pope's bollocks.

I like Fringe too. I don't watch any of the Law & Orders or CSI's. Seriously, why so many spin off's? All you're doing is changing the location. Whoopdedoo!

Season 5. And it is episode*s* (two of them). :)
Not much better than the rest of the season though. Which means it's sheer class, in my opinion, but still.
I hate Miami because David Caruso makes me want to throw things at him every time he appears and I have a new telly so I can't, but I am hooked on Vegas and (even more) NY.

...because apparently it is not kosher to have more than one episode per week - so they went the spin-off route. And because Gary Sinise is what Chuck Norris dreams to be when he has wet dreams.

Ahhh, another fan! Yay! It really is quite fantastic, I think. I agree with your assessment of the spin-offs, complete rehashed shite. It breaks my heart to see the one and only Private Pyle slumming it up on a crappy shadow of a cop show.

Gotta side with Enz on this. I'm not a fan of procedural cop shows but NCIS has something about it that I like. Maybe it's the way the characters play off each other, makes it more light-hearted.

So where do I hand in my man card? :o

For me anyway, it's that I've become quite jaded with fluffy, episodic network TV. I've seen it all before in older shows, and I can guess what's going to happen Every. Effing. Time. I guess I just look for something more from my TV, which is why I only really watch stuff from HBO, Showtime, and AMC. Shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Venture Bros, The Daily Show/Colbert Report, Californication, Weeds, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Eastbound & Down are what float my boat, and to my eyes they are leaps ahead of the aforementioned in terms of storytelling quality, thus making it impossible for me to go backwards.

And if I'm going to watch a criminal investigation show, I'm going to back to the well and watch something like Kojak, Columbo, or even the fantastically simplistic Murder, She Wrote. Once you watched shows of that ilk, the likes of CSI or NCIS can offer nothing new.

...NCIS has something about it that I like.
So does The Big Bang Theory.

I actually AM a fan of procedural cop shows, and I like NCIS - but not as much as CSI:NY, maybe just because of the whole comedy side. And because of Gary Sinise.

And by the way, to those who slack NCIS/CSI and prefer old-style Columbo and friends, I'd suggest to treat yourself to some episodes of Rebus (the ones with Ken Stott, if you like yourself, although the older ones with John Hannah are not bad either).
