Don't they show the brand new ones on the weekends or something?

Yeah, late on Saturdays will be the next time to catch it... although Comedy Central might show it earlier just to pull in some extra ratings.

Anyway... standard episode, which means it was freaking great, just not quite one for the ages. Having more than half the episode in WoW animation means that for once, the show must have been put together in more than a week. Clearly a labor of love for Matt and Trey.

I thought it was already the 10th season when chef died, didn;'t they just make 5 episodes and take a reeeeeeeally long mid season break?

Anyhow I'll be watching this on the way home tomorrow and lost furing my lunch break (god bless avi supporting video mp3 players)

Edit: freakin` sweet episode, I might be an R-tard cause I don't play MMORPG but I thought it was great.

I missed it, but caught it last night.

Of course, it was after I watched Attack of the Show on G4TV. They were slamming on Matt and Trey for the way they went after World of Warcraft and the stereotype of what online gamers are like.

I thought the episode was hilarious!

Its funny... noobs always try to bash us as being internet geeks, and yet none of us here have played WoW. I hear its an addicting game, but I highly doubt I could get into it like some people do. Didn't some people actually get married in the game before having a traditional ceremony? I think I remember that being a news story a few years ago.

WoW sounds pretty fun, but you have to pay a subscription fee to play it online...

Oh dude, the Bloody Mary thing was around LONG before Candyman. That shit was probably old when I was in grade school and first heard about it in the mid 80's.
Seeing as how I was born in the 60s, I am very aware of the whole Bloody Mary version which became popular in the early to mid 70s. However, the majority of the people that watch South Park will reference it to Candyman, so I referenced it to that.

DarthMaulRat
10-29-2006, 07:56 PM
I always remembered it being Bloody Mary, even after Candyman came out.

For me, the 3 Stooges riff had me laughing the hardest. Watching serial killers go 'nyuk nyuk nyuk' around a bakery had me in stitches. I was watching the midnight broadcast of the ep. and ended up waking the whole house with my laughing.

I too see the apocalypse whenever that sweet 16 is show is on, so I can see what Matt & Trey were trying to do. I was hoping they would get meaner and do a full on attack of the materialistic image problems that tv can promote, but I suppose they already did that quite well with Stupid Spoiled Whore Playset.

ratm1966

I'm suprised I got the reference. I had never seen the newer Buck Rodgers until this summer when it was on the Sci Fi channel for a week in the morning. I was just amazed to see that there was actually a sci-fi show with characters flakier than the 80's Flash Gordon movie.

I had just had an extremely difficult conversation with some friends about having an intervention for some other friends. They leave and I think. Hey, South Park. That will make me feel better. Yea. Bastards. I'm sure the episode was good, I was just so in the wrong mental phase to watch it.

DarthMaulRat
11-16-2006, 02:21 PM
Was last night's episode in response to some uptight critic of the show? It seemed like the whole point of last night's episode was to piss off the media who made a big deal about the Steve Irwin bit from three episodes ago. Nevermind all the other borders they were deliberately pushing.

I was kind of let down with the second part of the two part episode, but last night's was "Brilliant!"

"Just be aware of this coach. If you lose the big game, that little boy is gonna die faster than Steve Irwin in a tank full of stingrays."

"No, because they're gonna kill us." "They're not gonna kill us." "That's what Steve Irwin said about those stingrays."

Oh my god, I laughed so hard at these two exchanges that I almost pissed myself.

The greatest show in the world is back with a bang!
What a top episode.
I know it makes me evil, but when Cartman and the, *ahem*, little guy squared off and they played Down With The Sickness I nearly choked on my fried rice.
Oh Trey and Matt, don't EVER change.

"You don't know what its like to have an ugly part of your history brought up again and again by a hateful name!"

"This guy's kidding, right?"

Holy shit! Last night's episode went way over the line. I think it even went beyond the episode when Miss Chokesondick died and Cartman was looking for a supply of semen.

Of course, it was still funny as hell.

"So, your friend stole your picture of you sucking another kids penis?"

Oh...

And the whole bi-curious camp was great too, with the kids committing suicide at just about every turn.

I used to cite the Pip/great expectations episode as one of the bad ones, but I recently rewatched it, and sure enough, liked it. Its a different type of humor for the show, cause the episode actually sticks pretty close to the story of great expectations, only to throw in robotic monkeys and the tear powered genesis machine at the end. And getting Malcolm McDowell to narrarate was a stroke of genius.

South Park has had pretty consistent quality over the past few years now. Like I said, the past two episodes were pretty average, they more or less followed the general South Park formula, and despite having a couple good laughs in them, they aren't likely to draw any new fans to the show. Then you get episodes like last night's episode, one which just hits the ground running and leaves you rolling on the floor. Comedy Central will repeat last night's ep. tonight. If you're looking to start watching SP again, this episode should win you over. Seriously. I liked it more than anything in season 10.

Season 10 is certainly superior to Season 9, but even that isn't saying much about present-day South Park. I just think that the characters have pretty much lost their charm (apart from Randy. There's lots of Randy in recent seasons, and he's awesome. "Give me...the sword"), and that Trey and Matt have lost a little bit of their magic.

On the other hand, the "Spare some change?" episode (I can't remember the episode title) gave hints of classic Cartman and that gives me hope.

Still, the very last gag in the latest episode (S10E09) was a gem.

Yep, watching again, and it's the best stuff ever. Should have seen it coming, but Jesus showing up on the Council Of Nine(what a cast!) put me on the floor. And, Popeye. I was in tears. So many references thrown into one show. It's like a pop culture smackdown. If Mr. Hankey don't show up, I'll be surprised. Someone is going to suck Cartman's balls. ;)

Episode 3 was great, I think its only problem is that it failed to top the 2nd episode. Also, I think everyone was expecting something really off the wall crazy as a conclusion, considering how crazy the first two episodes were. I think the ending we got was still appropriately cinematic, and honestly, how else were they going to have Kyle suck Cartman's balls without getting kicked off the air?

Agreed. The end of the first episode left me giddy with anticipation, and that pretty much continued throughout the second episode.

Also, I think everyone was expecting something really off the wall crazy as a conclusion, considering how crazy the first two episodes were.
The ending was pretty much what I was expecting considering that it was still a South Park episode, and I felt it ended in typical South Park fashion. With that said, I wasn't completely sure they were going to go with the "I've learned something today" moment. That and the Butter's moment towards the end was quite surreal, and terrifically cinematic. T'was quite cool.

I'm with you. Its been a string of okay episodes, and each of them has had some pretty dull moments. South Park is one of those shows that is so consistently good that you really expect to be laughing the whole episode, and so far only the HIV one came close to doing that for me. And despite some of the twists in the episode, lets face it, SP has done HIV before. Time to find some new wells to tap, guys.

On the other hand, I wish the cheesing episode was funnier, because their Heavy Metal tribute was inspired, if nothing else.

Any feelings on the last one? The last one I believe for the next half a year. There were some nice moments but this whole season so far is very weak by South Park standards. Nothing stood out at all to make it a golden show, or series even. *SPOILER* At the point when the thieves got out of the vans for the first time I thought I saw the same model they used for Tom Cruise and I thought they would have another lovely swipe at Scientology but it all just seemed to peter out. Not that there wasn't any laughs in the episode. The idea of them staying in character pushed past the not funny anymore boundary to funny again which can be nice sometimes. Another example being the "Free Willzyx" episode's "It was funny" gag.

Also it's nice to see a stubborn Butters too..... speaking of pushing a gag too far... can i hear a distant "I'm not your guy buddy"?

Compared to the entire run of South Park, it was a disappointing half season, one of the weakest in recent memory. The "Eek, a Penis!" episode got the most laughs out of me, but even that had the forgettable and largely laughless subplot of Cartman teaching kids to cheat. Yeah, the season stuck largely to its formula of taking one outrageous gag and putting it though all its possible permutations. As always, every episode still had a few great laughs, which is much more than the average network comedy.

I might even go as far to say they're all in the top 20 best episodes ever... disagree away!

I will. You maybe need to go back and revisit earlier seasons. Methinks your memory of their awesomesauciness has faded.

Maybe I do, I just had a wee skim over an episode list and the only familiar ones are ones I didn't like (may Mr Hanky never EVER return!)

First memorable favourite I came to was season 5 Proper Condom Use.

Go on then, givvus some of your favourites

I loved his introductory episode.
Go on then, givvus some of your favourites

Jesus, how long have you got? For the first 10 seasons I find it hard to find a bad one, but if I had to make a tentative list of my favourite eps, it would be as follows:

Cartman Gets An Anal Probe (it was the episode that introduced me to the show. I still remember watching it for the first time and being transfixed by its greatness)

Mecha Streisand

Chicken Lover (The birth of "Respect My Authoritaaaah!")

Clubhouses

Spooky Fish

Merry Christmas Charlie Manson (The poo-themed Grinch bits slay me!)

Gnomes

All of Seasons 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8

After that, I think the downward slide began, very slowly mind you. I still enjoyed the show a great deal, but the latest season was a huge drop in quality.

My all-time favourite episode is probably Helen Keller! The Musical, Eric is just so perfect in it, plus the Colm Wilkinson knock-off is pricelss.
Also it's getting close the time when I watch a christmas episode a day to get in the festive mood. I watch Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics maybe 20 times every December.

So, um...yeah. I like South Park. :o

EDIT - Durp, forgot to mention the movie. If it could be considered an episode, then it would be my favourite. It's effing awesomesauce™!

What about The Spirit of Christmas? Seriously. Without me to hold your hand, you'd end up licking a light socket. :D

I had no internet when it came out, and it was never on TV over here. What do you want from me?

It was literally the first thing I downloaded when I got my first internet connection, along with Troops (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO6rqAJ3mGc).

Ah, the Troops. I remember watching that on my Packard Bell P.O.S. my freshman year of college. The video card was so shit terrible that it would intermittently get all blocky and lose sync. Still, one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

Though I've been a fan of South Park since it premeird when I was in 4th grade, Family Guy is pretty much pooping on it right now.

I dunno, I was walking through the city centre 2 days ago, and there was a Peruvian Pan Pipe band performing, I pretty much couldn't take them seriously after that.

This week's South Park was ball-achingly funny in spots.

I'd have to disagree. Neither show is great any more, but South Park still does a decent story every once in a while so they win for me. The Mr. Mouse stuff on South Park made me laugh far harder than anything from this seasons Family Guy. I'm hoping Family Guy finds the funny for the upcoming 420 and Star Wars episodes though.

They're still both better than The Simpsons currently however. =/

Paramount Comedy is now Comedy Central over here and they're showing the new episodes of South Park the day after they're on in the States. That's not a new thrill for me because I legally aquire but they're airing the ads for the episodes too. I now know the basic plot of tonight's episode which used to never happen. I couldn't get to the remote in time.

It seems they're opened the .co.uk southparkstudios. So now instead of all thirteen seasons of full episodes, we on this side of the pond have five episodes to choose from.

Superb episode. The bit where they walk in the ring and ask why they found the guy in the forrest (with backdrop and everything) is when it kicked in to me how over the top they were portraying it!

I just saw the wrasslin' one. Easily the best episode of the new ones.

Favourite line: "they bruck his jerrrr!"

Favourite idea: the concept of a woman becoming addicted to abortions.
