What band do you think used to be really good, but now is just kind of bad/overrated/repetitive/ect.
For me it's Green Day. I loved Dookie, but after that, they kind of just started to suck. Their newest album is just way overplayed and is being treated like it's the best album out, when it isn't. It really isn't.

For me it's System of a Down. I really liked Mezmerize at first, but now I just don't listen to it. It didn't have the staying power of Toxicity. Same with Hypnotize. They haven't gotten bad yet, but I fear their newfound popularity could really screw with their music. Oh, and while we're on the topic of downward spiral, I want to mention someone just coming out of one (in my opinion). Alice Cooper. He's left the "metal" that he's been doing since the '90s and went back to classic rock roots with his new(er) CD Dirty Diamonds. The album hopefully marks the return of the king of shock rock.

Aerosmith jumped the shark a long long time ago but I still have a great deal of fondness for their old stuff.
There are a lot of bands that fit the category but I think Aerosmith is the most glaringly godawful example.

I'll have to reiterate that.
Metallica (well, Lars Ulrich in particular) jumped the shark with St. Anger and the documentary Some Kind of Monster. Hopefully they redeem themselves with whatever they do next.

Nay, I say. Selloutica started their downward spirial when they left their tight and masterful speed metal roots and proceeded to sell their collective souls to the devil named Bob Rock in order to get radio airplay with the Black CD and subsequent releases like Load and the oh-so-clever titled Re-Load.
And don't even get me started on the mess that is St. Anger. Really, anyone who listened through that garbled crapfest should've been sainted.

I'll take what I can get.
I just hate the fact that everytime a metal band needed to get airplay, Rock was there to get their souls and in some instances, their first-borns. He is a devil to all people who love their Satanic metal pure and longer than four minutes.

I had to listen to it on a long drive with my cousin. Every song just kept repeating itself over and over and over...

See, I loved the direction they took with the Black Album. I'm all for a band trying new things with their sound and such, even if it is for the sake of "selling out" (a term I heartily dislike). It's when it sounds like crap that I take issue (hence, St. Anger).
But I agree, I long for the Master of Puppets days. I've had to replace that album about 10 times since my fifth birthday (when I received it as a birthday present from my parents).

Bush isn't on a downward spiral so to speak, but they nearly jumped the shark with that gay-ass techno-remixes album I had the unfortunate luck of buying the other day (Deconstructed). I still got a great deal by buying the discog as a set, though.

Not a band so much as a song... STAIRWAY by Led Zeppelin. Stop playing that fucking song people.

I have never heard Stairway on the radio. I didn't hear it until after college when I listened to a friend's CD. I have no idea how I managed that.

If being on hiatus/defunct since 2002's less-than spectacular Golden State doesn't constitute the trailing end of a downward spiral, I don't know what does...

That depends on how good the next album is, if there is one. One album doesn't make a bad band. Look at KISS' *shudders* disco album "Dynasty".

When a band starts releasing "best of" albums after several less than average albums and a four year "hiatus", the band is pretty much done.

Can't argue with that. But I'm not the type of person to discount a band easily, so... ;)

Has anybody seen the music video for Psycho Circus (http://www.sleazeroxx.com/audio.shtml) (Scroll down on the right side for the video)? I'm a Kiss fan, but this is just ridiculous. I'm sure it was impressed in the 90's when the album was released, but it's kind of pathetic today. Even with this, they're still the hottest band in the world. :D

I haven't liked anything they've done since before the disco album, with the exception of the song "God Gave Rock and Roll to You". But they were so fuckin' hot before the disco album, I forgive them for jumping the shark.
That, and Detroit Rock City is one of my favorite movies, so they kinda regained their cred a bit with it.

Mine too, but they did enough good in the ten years before the disco album that the 25 years since then is overlookable.

I don't know about that, Heaven's On Fire, Domino, and Unholy are pretty good. Although, we can all agree Kiss was better before the disco album. Just compare Let's Put the X in Sex to Love Gun.

Granted, I like some of the stuff they've done since (I own the Revenge album), but they'll never be as good as Destroyer or Love Gun again.

Yeah, but to be fair, Destroyer is one of the greatest albums of all time.

I just noticed this doesn't fit at all. It says Band On A Downward Spiral above our Kiss pictures. It just isn't right. Sure, they're not as good as they once were, but must we shame them with this slander? Please save us, oh God of Thunder!
