The last album I bought was a Charlie Parker cd. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it. It's damn good though. Oh, and Ladyfuzz's album, Kerfuffle, which is a surprise little gem.

No, these are ones I've gotten over the past few months. And I think the most I paid for any of them was around $7. I'm a bargain shopper.

I got these today:

Slayer - Christ Illusion
Necromandus - Orexis of Death

Alice Cooper: Super Hits. $5 at local Wal-Mart. A small price to pay for one of the greatest songs of all time, Poison. The last album I listened to was The Beatles' Abbey Road on classic vinyl. I just started to get into them after I found out my dad has some of their LPs (and hasn't listened to them since I was born, so at least 17 years). Anyway, I'm moving on to The White Album next and then I'll wrap it up with Greatest Hits 1967-1970. Oh, and I'm also going to buy the Clerks II soundtrack tomorrow (mainly for the audio clips, I've missed the film so much since it went out at my theater even though I watched it 6 times). Anyway, that's about it, but I will be on the lookout for Abbey Road on CD soon...

You know, I have really been trying to be nice to people, but dude or dudette....This is your own thread, and YOU titled it..."What Was The Last Album You Bought?" You wrote "Album" and not "Albums"....so, out of that list of a shitload of albums, just which one was the last friggin' album you bought?

The last ALBUM I purchased was Pearl Jam's "rearviewmirror".

Well, I guess I'll take all of this hostility toward me as my cue to leave. I've been here all of 24 hours and I've had to put up with no less than 3 of you getting on my case about petty, insignificant shit.

No wonder you all don't have more members posting, what with the kind of crap "newbs" have to put up with out of bitter "regulars". This whole experience reminded me why I crawled into my own little hole of the 'net in the first place.

Sorry to the people who welcomed me. Most of you all seemed cool, but if I'm going to put up with being mistreated verbally then it's going to be on my regular message boards, or from a girlfriend (and that's only if she's giving it up to me).

Feel free to visit the link in my signature if you want to check out my site/board.

Dude!! Take a chill pill!!! My only point was that you started a thread (in the music section without Robbo's permission ;) ) about the last album bought then proceeded to list your entire catalogue. Just follow your own rules is my only point.

Other than your love of lists, I've got no issue with you. You type with proper punctuation, spelling and grammar so you've got brownie points over the usual 12 year old newbs we tend to get here. Stick around, it gets easier I swear.

So what? we don't live in fifty years ago! We live in HERE AND NOW! Today we have to be more accepting of people's opinions or beliefs! We can't just hang them for having a different belief. That's un-american. If he critisizes the government, so what? WE LIVE IN AMERICA NOW! NOT FIFTY YEARS AGO! WE CAN DO THAT!

I digress.

Yeah, my point....

I got on you in another thread...fav bands or some shit like that...for having too many favs. You replied that "bands" or whaterver it was was plural....okay, good point. In this one there was no "s" on album. I was just making pretty much the same point you made in the other thread.

It's all good. I didn't really mean to create a double standard or anything. I only started a couple lists because I thought they would incite discussion. That seems to work well elsewhere.

But I do have a question: why would I have to have someone's permission to post in a forum? That seems rather backward to me, especially on a message board.

I'm sorry, I was just easily put-off by the whole "haze the noob" thing. I think that's completely unnecessary. Especially if you want any noobs to hang around.

It's cool, girl. I PM'd him, and told him how the "hazing" and "bullshitting" process works. Told him to look back at some archives, and get a feel for how we do things. This isn't a "message board". Well, since no one has posted anything of consequence of late, I recommend these albums that I have recently acquired.

TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

These last two were on vinyl, and since I was in the market, I picked up another gem that looks like a CD only bigger and blacker.

Just picked up Sam's Town by The Killers. Different from Hot Fuss, but still good. I can't believe I like this band. I go from listening to Kiss and Guns N' Roses to The Killers on a semi-regular basis. It's just weird. Anyway, it's pretty good, but I think I like Hot Fuss better (which I never would have heard if my mom hadn't bought it for All These Things That I've Done).

It's a shame, cos I was quite fond of Hot Fuss. It was no masterpiece, but it was worth a listen every now and again.

The last Rolling Stone had a big section on Vegas, so they did three glowing pages on the Killers...then they panned the album in the Review section. They asked the question "Why would 'When You Were Young" be the first single when it isn't a particularly singlely song?" They answered with "Because it is the only good song on the album." Ouch. I really dig 'When You Were Young,' but I haven't heard anything else off of it.

I read the Rolling Stone review before I bought it. 'When You Were Young' is definitely not the only good song on the CD. I'm not extremely impressed, but I like it. Hot Fuss is better, but this is nice for a change. The songs I really like on it so far are Sam's Town, When You Were Young, For Reasons Unknown, Uncle Jonny, This River Is Wild, and Why Do I Keep Counting.

Good buy, dude. I thought I was the only person who liked The Killers.

But I guess I am alone in stating that I prefer the new one to Hot Fuss... :(

I'll list my newest purchases. I've been having to go back and replace some of my old, old, old CDs, so there are quite a few on this list (since I've found a lot of these for cheap used on Amazon):

Candlebox - S/T (replacement), Lucy (replacement)
Killers - Sam's Town (new)
Mad Season - Above (replacement)
Radiohead - Kid A (replacement)
Screaming Trees - Uncle Anesthesia (replacement), Sweet Oblivion (replacement), Dust (new)
Silverchair - Frogstomp (replacement), Freak Show (replacement), Neon Ballroom (new), Diorama (new)
White Zombie - Soul-Crusher (replacement), Make Them Die Slowly (new)

I actually got Soul-Crusher at a local used music dive. I only paid 7 bucks for it, which is UBER cheap, because there were only 2000 copies of that CD ever made. I felt bad for not telling that guy that he could sell that CD for quite a few hundred dollars to the right buyer.

I needed something different to listen to. I'm too tired of listening to amazing classic CDs (lately I've been listening to Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind, The Beatles' Abbey Road, Aerosmith's Toys In The Attic, and of course Kiss's Destroyer) and need something new and (mediocre?) different from what I usually listen to. I don't mean different as in "cool slit my wrists look at me" different. Plus it's been getting decent reviews, which made me think of picking it up instead of some other random CD (which could totally suck, instead of the partial suck-factor this CD may have).

Just got The D's new CD and, of course, it rocks. I can only recommend it to hardcore fans, though, because it's kind of on the short side. The album's 34 minutes long, and most of the songs are under 3 minutes. Still, this is definitely the same D I know and love, and it makes me all the more anxious for the movie. If nothing else, Kickapoo is worth a download (it features cameos from Meatloaf and Ronnie James Dio).

"Perfect Way" stinks up side two of the otherwise okay "Tutu".

Cale and Eric Clapton's Road to Escondido, The Beatles' White Album and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Iron Maiden's A Matter of Life and Death on CD. I know, I know, It's a greatest hits album, but before you go judging me, let me explain... I lost my King for a Day album and I needed one of the songs off that album. The store only had this FNM album in stock and the song I needed was on it, so I bought it.

Besides after listening to it, I've come to conclude that it's probably the greatest, greatest hits album ever!

I didn't just buy it, but I just found it in a pile of old CDs. Has anyone else heard it? I bought it a couple years ago (around 13-14, before I really discovered what kind of music I liked and just listened to random shit). I've only listened to a couple of songs (Going to India, Rebirth), but it doesn't sound too bad so far. Anyone else heard of it?

P.S. This is not meant to spam (although now that I re-read it it does sound somewhat spammish), I was just wondering if anyone else had opinions on it. It's not something amazing, just kind of catchy so far.

Last album I listened to was called Mark Ronson - Version. Its just some remixer that has taken a bunch of, ahem 'popular' songs (mainly current uk stuff) and remixed them in a motown, northern soul, ska type vibe. Some are a bit naff but the rearrangement and feel suits many of the songs down to the ground, suprisingly.

Track List (i doubt you will have heard of many of these if you're outside UK ????)

1. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face - Ronson, Mark & Daptone Horns
2. Oh My God - Ronson, Mark & Lily Allen
3. Stop Me - Ronson, Mark & Daniel Merriweather
4. Toxic - Ronson, Mark & Tiggers
5. Valerie - Ronson, Mark & Amy Winehouse
6. Apply Some Pressure - Ronson, Mark & Paul Smith
7. Inversion - Ronson, Mark
8. Pretty Green - Ronson, Mark & Santo Gold
9. Just - Ronson, Mark & Alex Greenwald
10. Amy - Ronson, Mark & Kenna
11. Only One I Know - Ronson, Mark & Robbie Williams
12. Diversion - Ronson, Mark
13. LSF - Ronson, Mark & Kasabian
14. Outversion - Ronson, Mark

To be honest I dont recognise half of these, sound good though, if ya like that kinda thing.

Why did I leave this out of my collection so long?!?!
Probably due to the stink of disappointment surrounding the album at its release. I seem to remember the general reaction at the time being something like: "Another 'we hate guitars, we hate pop songs' album? We just suffered through Kid A!"

I've never heard the album, myself, but I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm currently trying to decide whether I like "Hail to the Thief". (Today's prognosis: Good in spots, tiresome as a whole. It's a multi-year evaluation process.;) )

And staying on topic, when I was in NYC I picked up an EP by Beirut on vinyl. Girl behind the counter knew there was no way I'd find it in Nashville as only 500 of the vinyls were pressed and that they were the only store (according to her) in NYC that had it. It was the better store I found in the East Village. By the time I got to Rebel Rebel in the West Village, it was already closed. Bleeker street music was pretty cool, but they were closing as I got there. I did find a vinyl copy of Depeche Mode's Songs of Faith & Devotion. I could probably have found that here, but I didn't want to chance it.

I bought this, well worth the $12: http://richshapero.shop.musictoday.com/Dept.aspx?cp=10773_10854 It's called "The Ram" and is by Rich Shapero. I heard about it from my music professor and then again from my friend that has a collector's eye for experimental music. Don't really know how to describe it, it's raw poetic nature musings atop simple country folk music, very well-crafted. Requires intense listening, defiintely not background music.

For some reason, I've gotten into vinyl again, so the past few albums I've bought consist of The Cars, Moody Blues, Genesis, ELO, etc. There's just something about that warm yet scratchy sound that makes vinyl great. Plus I'm buying albums for 50 cents a pop, and those big covers are a lost art form.

I got into vinyl around a year ago and love 'em. I usually get mine for aound $2-4 at a local store, and they're usually in pretty good condition. I guess the 8 hours straight of me using your Mac to find them on YouTube rubbed off, huh?
More than you know dude, cos I can't get this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6CunFiE0Cs) out of my head either.

Okay, but you are kind of missing out. Any specific reason you don't like the Stripes?

But, I do kinda like 'em. Just over-hyped I think.

True, but Jack plays bass quite a bit in studio versions I've heard.

I haven't really heard them on the radio much, but then again I haven't listened to any modern radio (I'll listen to a Classic Rock station here and there, but usually only if I don't have my mp3 player on me) for around four or five years. I just got into them this month after I listened to De Stijl and Get Behind Me Satan. I agree they're over-hyped in the media, but they still deserve a listen based on their talent.

Over-hyped? Sure...but only because Black was able to coax some phenomenal sounds out of a plastic fucking Montgomery Wards guitar. Top shelf player, my friend. And let's be honest here...if Rush were "over-hyped" you and I would BOTH have a boner the size of Texas...:D

At any rate...this one kicks ass...

Because the stripes seem like a mastubatory event every time I see him perform, it's Jack White + drum machine in reality.
And after listening to the last 3 albums without Benson, he's repeating the same shit over and over.
He needs another musician to work off of to make anything with real heart.
I've seen the Raconteurs peform, it's like witnessing the reunion of Zeppelin.
After seeing a 12 minute rendition of "Intimate Secretary" I will now accept nothing else.

I guess I can understand where you're coming from, but there's one part of that comment I don't get. You said the last 3 albums are repetitive, but Get Behind Me Satan's completely different from anything else they've done. I'm not trying to start some kind of argument, but I just wanted to know if you thought Get Behind Me Satan was just like their other albums and why.

I enjoyed the shit out of that album.

I'm still enjoying the shit out of it. :)

Understood. I quit listening to sports-talk radio in my truck, because I can't get enough of the new CD. Just really good!!!

Picked up this vinyl double album for 50 cents. Never liked Jethro Tull before, primarily because my only exposure to them was the shite they play on the radio. This album turned it all around for me.

Now By-tor's got me all hyped up to find 2112 on vinyl. That would make my day.

I just bought some records over my vacation, one of them being 2112. Some of the others are: Rush Archives (Rush, Fly By Night, and Caress of Steel), Permanent Waves, Grace Under Pressure, Steve Miller Band's Greatest Hits '74-78, Kiss's Rock and Roll Over, Boston's Don't Look Back, CCR's Pendulum, John Fogerty's self-titled solo album, Cheap Trick's At Budokan, Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell, and some others I can't remember right now. Got 'em all for $3 each, except for Don't Look Back ($1) and Rock and Roll Over ($5).

Nice, Nice, Nice! All very awesome finds. I don't think I've gotten anything comparable to that lately, except for a pristine Japanese printing of Bowie's live album "Stage". Cost $15 but for me it was well worth it. Good thing records in Japan also play at 33 1/3, otherwise that baby would've been a waste on me. I also picked up Zevon's "Exciteable Boy", which is quickly becoming one of my favorite albums. I listened to it twice in a row immediately after purchase.

Got Icky Thump yesterday but I've only made it through it once because I don't have a CD player in my car and I forgot to take it to work today.

Speaking of Kiss (as BizarroPunisher was), Gene Simmons and his wife came into my sister's shop yesterday.

Is that the new one? I'm really digging "One" and "Goodnight Rose," and I've never really gotten into him before.

Madame Zens always seems to have Adams playing on her myspace page. Pretty easy on the ears. I need to check into more of his stuff. Recommendations?

Oh, gosh that's a good question.

The new one, Easy Tiger is kind of a hodgepodge of styles from the last couple of albums he did, so it seems to me that is a selection of demos, much like his third album Demolition which is also solid. His first solo record is Heartbreaker and most of his fans, including myself thought Cold Roses was a great addition to his alt-country sound.

Gold is his second album, and it is much more poppy (if I'm not mistaken, that is Suzie's favorite in his catalogue). It contains the song "New York, New York" which was released in 2001 the summer before 9/11, and that song was everywhere following the tragedy. Tim McGraw also covered "When the Stars Go Blue" from this album.

Released on the same day were Rock N Roll and Love is Hell. The condition of the latter being released was Adams had to record something more mainstream, hence the former. They have two distinct sounds that make for great listening. Rock N Roll is less poppy and with a harder edge, while Love is Hell was produced by John Porter (known for his work with the Cure) and is very mopey. If you're not a sad bastard, Jeff Buckley fan, I don't recommend Love is Hell, but it does sport a cover of the Oasis tune "Wonderwall" which in my opinion is better than the original.

Jacksonville City Nights is a full on country album, and if you're a fan of Lyle Lovett, this will suit you nicely. There's a great duet with Norah Jones, and the vinyl has a couple of bonus tracks. 29 was his third album released in 2005 (following Cold Roses and Jacksonville respectively) and the only Ryan Adams album I really don't like.

To start with, I'd go with either Heartbreaker, Gold, or Cold Roses, just to get a better representation of what he traditionally does, but depending on your style and mood, you have plenty to choose from.

Just listened to Icky Thump again while I going out of town. I originally just wanted to listen to it in the background while I read my new book (If Chins Could Kill), but opted to give my full attention to the album after a couple seconds. I've listened to it full at least 3 or 4 times now, and enjoy it more every time. Also, when I got to where I was going, the store was playing a song from Icky Thump in between every 2 or 3 songs. Also, while I was there, I bought Elephant, the Walking With a Ghost EP, and Demitri Martin's These Are Jokes for $14, $3, and $6 respectively (I think that's the right word to use).

I have this and Heartbreaker. The Rescue Blues is a doozie. Can somebody tell me what movie has it at the end of it? I want to say Behind Enemy Lines, but I'm not sure.
If you're not a sad bastard, Jeff Buckley fan
Now why did you have to go and say something like that?!
True there are too many people out there who love Hallelujah, yet look at you funny if you mention Leonard Cohen ("You mean Jeff didn't write it?" *shudder*), but Grace is one of the finest albums recorded in the last 20 years.

Picked up Gold yesterday. Listened to the first 3 tunes on my way home. First impression, kinda a hybrid of John Cougar and Van Morrison. I'll hear more of the CD today.

Got Icky Thump yesterday... Ditto. Caught first 3 tunes on the way to work this morning. Jack reminds me of Jimmy Page, big-time. The second tune could have been on any Zep album.

Can't wait to listen to some more of both. Good weekend for music, for me. Going to Austin with the Tasty boys to catch a Recover "reunion" show. They are now called Young Love.
