You can't have that many favorites. Those are just the groups you like a lot. At the most, you can just have one favorite from each different genre of music.

It seems to me that if you can say that, then you don't listen to very much music.

I can like a lot of different artists from the same genre and listen to them just as much as one another, or at least almost as much. And out of the thousands and thousands of bands I had to choose from, I listed a very, very small percentage of them.

I can only have one ABSOLUTE favorite, that's true, but that wasn't the point of the thread (or the title would've been "Your Absolute Favorite Band/Artist", singular).

Nice, especially Clutch, Kiss, and GNR. Anyway for me right now it's (In no particular order:
Guns N' Roses
Kiss
Beatles
Rob Zombie
Ozzy Osbourne
Alice Cooper
AC/DC

... and a others I can't think of right now. Also, even though I haven't heard a lot of their stuff, Clutch's Pure Rock Fury is one of my favorite CDs to listen to. I was going to buy Robot Hive/Exodus but the one CD store in our town shut down so my only options now are K-Mart and Wal-Mart. Anyway, nice list (although you might want to think about narrowing it down at least a little). Welcome.

Thanks for the welcome! If I can make a suggestion, you ought to try and catch those Clutch discs on Amazon.com's used list. That's where I got mine, and at the time I got them I paid no more than $6 for the most expensive one (which was Robot Hive/Exodus).

And I know it must be hard to believe, but that IS my narrowed down list. I'm sorry, but I listen to an assload of music. ;)

Thanks for the Amazon info, I'll check that out. Also, I guess I understand where you're coming from with the large list. Music's the only thing that keeps me sane in my 100 minute daily Web Design class. Then again, it's always Guns N' Roses. Is it a coincidence that's the only music I listen to every day in Web Design class? No, no it's not.

I think music is the only thing that keeps me sane, period. Movies and music have always been my escape from reality and my outlets for my emotions.

Yeah, in the angry liberal pinko commie bastard that probably doesn't watch Fox News metal/rap category, my fav is Rage Against The Machine.

- Goth type stuff....Collide
- Rip out your throat screaming metal....My Ruin
- R&B....I don't really have a fav....too many good ones....oh, and I am talking about the R&B that includes Boyz II Men, Az Yet, etc.
- Country....Not really a FAVORITE, but I am big into Mindy Smith, Sara Evans, and Julie Roberts
- Blues....No Favs, but I do like Etta James, Nina Simone, and BB King
- Jazz....Phyllis Hyman
- Pop....Pop sucks ass.

I could go on and on with all of the different types of music, to include Rock, Metal, Easy Listening, etc....but I will just say that my overall favorite artist is Sade.

I have to agree. I've listened to Led Zeppelin a few times and really tried to like them, but just can't get into it. I'm really getting into The Beatles now, mainly their later stuff (White Album, Abbey Road).

I can't knock anyone's taste in music because we like what we like, but to call Zeppelin overrated and then say you dig The Beatles is something I've never, ever heard come out of anyone's mouth - that's something that's very oxymoronic.

Or shall we say that bettles it? Anyway, I didn't say the Beatles weren't (heavily, and I mean really fucking heavily) overrated, I just stated that I have started to listen to their later stuff and actually like it (which is surprising, becuase I honestly thought I would hate their stuff, and I still don't like their earlier stuff). I was just stating that (like Zeppelin) I tried the Beatles and actually liked it (unlike Zeppelin, but I'm not saying Zeppelin sucks, I'm just stating I don't like them very much and I feel they're overrated). Let's face it, both Beatles and Zeppelin are EXTREMELY overrated, but that doesn't make them poor artists.

So my 18 year old cousin is starting college soon. Upon talking to her I realized that she is naive in the ways of the world. The part I'm going to help fix is her lack of musical knowledge. She has "heard of" Rolling Stones...thinks she's heard of Lead Zeplin *shuddders* and whatnot. If I were to educate her from square one, which bands would you consider top of that list?

JJ, I love Led Zeppelin. And not, not in a friendly way, although I think we're great friends. And not in a misplaced affection, puppy-dog way, although I'm sure that's what you'll call it. I love Zep. Very, very simply, very truly. Zep is the epitome of everything I have ever looked for in a band. I had to say it, because I've never felt this way before, and I don't care. I like who I am because of it. And if bringing this to light means we can't hang out anymore, then that hurts me. But I know...I know that some part of you is hesitating for a moment, and if there is a moment of hesitation, then that means you feel something for Zep too. All I ask, please, is that you just, you just not dismiss that - and try to dwell in it for just ten seconds. JJ, there isn't another band on this fucking planet who has ever made me half the person I am when I'm listening to Zep, and I would risk this friendship for the chance to take it to the next plateau. Because it is there between Zep and me. I can't deny that. Even if, you know, even if we never talk again after tonight, please know that I'm forever changed because of who Zep is and what Zep has meant to me.

Guns N Roses
Black Label Society
Pantera
Puddle of Mudd
Linkin Park
Rolling Stones
Eagles
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Rob Zombie
Aerosmith
Skid Row
Cher (old Cher, also when she was with Sonny)
Beatles
Elvis
Willie Nelson
Bee Gees (yes, I said the Bee Gees)
Frank Sinatra
Harry Connick Jr.
Maria Callas
Adelina Patti
Luciano Pavarotti

No.

The kid wants to list his favorite bands? Let him. You don't have to dump on him for it. The kid's probably all of 14, everyone liked weird shit back in the day. Musical refinement comes with maturity. I'm sure when the kid has a few more winters behind him, his tastes will change, maybe even enough to conform with what others think are the right bands to listen to.

Seeing as how I enjoy Zep and AC/DC myself, I very well can't be a dick to the kid and tell him his list is shitty.

But it is shitty...
that the kid forgot to include Primus to that list. :D

By far (along with Kiss), The Darkness is my favorite band. I can't stop listening to them, and I don't mind it at all. Some fave songs by them right now are Love is Only a Feeling, Givin' Up, Friday Night, One Way Ticket, Is It Just Me, English Country Garden, and Blind Man. Those are just the songs I'm constantly listening to by them right now, it varies from week to week. I can honestly say I love every single one of their songs, which is a good thing since Justin left the band and I don't forsee any new stuff coming soon.

There's just never a mood I'm in when I don't feel like listening to him. I've completely familiarized myself with his first 8 albums and about every month or so I [legally acquire] the next one in line. :)
