Yeah, I know it is a few days early, but I had some good questions and didn't want the thread to only last for 2 days.

1. What were/are your plans for the Summer and have you done them yet. If so, how did they go?

My plans were to go on vacation to visit my parents, then stop off at Zens' place on the way home. I am still on vacation, but should be at Zens' this Friday and then be home on Saturday.

2. Do you like long walks on the beach?

3. What movie did you think would suck this year, but you watched it anyways, only to like it?

Click; I really don't like Adam Sandler's brand of humor and don't care much for his movoes. However; I liked this one. I think I even commented on it in the "Click" thread.

4. What do you think of the new site?

I am not trying to be a brown noser, but I think the new QSE is pretty good. It seems to have brought new life into the boards and it still offers some great articles to read.

5. Is MySpace really to blame for all of the troubles in the country or is it just the next scapegoat for all of the kids who are products of parents that failed to use proper discipline and for all of the people out there that are just plain stupid?

Summer? What is this summer thing you speak of? I know that this weekend I'm laying tile in the master bath, and the last week of July I'm finishing out the basement office. And August I should be swamped at work. I miss being 12 sometimes...

I hate the ocean. (Yeah, I was a sailor. What of it?) Actually the beach isn't too bad. I can do without the seaweed and the hospital waste, though.

3. What movie did you think would suck this year, but you watched it anyways, only to like it?

I really haven't been to a lot of movies yet this year. I didn't think Click was going to suck, but it was certainly not what I was expecting.

4. What do you think of the new site?


I think the new QSE is pretty good. The 'shoot was the only place I really went for entertainment news (contrary to what some may claim, I don't watch E!). So I'm glad I still have a good looking, entertaining source for a pop-culture fix. Keep up the good work.

Scapegoat. If parents were to be truly involved with their kids, the world would be a much, MUCH better place. There'd still be jackassery going on, but MySpace really can't be blamed. At least with an internet site, there's some room for intervention if things get too far out of hand. The kids going down to the mall and meeting strangers, on the other hand...

Well summer is 6 months away so I don't really have any plans yet. I am going to Melbourne for 5 days in August which will be a much needed break.

I think it's fine. I find it a bit cramped - like too much information. It will take me a while to go back to checking the main page regularly.

Scapegoat. This year it's myspace, in the past it's been the internet, video games and movies. They're all just pathetic excuses for bad parenting or kids that are pure evil.

Just getting into the good summertime travels but did go to Martha's Vineyard for a week after Memorial Day and hitting Rehoboth for a 4-day weekend for July 4th. After that, I'll check myself into the free clinic for full body melanoma treatment.

How do you think I'll get the melanoma? I also like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain. Oops, sorry; wrong thread...

They still show movies in communal gatherings like theaters? Having two little ones preclude me from participating but for the question's sake, I'll say "Superman Returns".

I miss having a URL with my column title in it but other than that, it looks great and is less filling than most other pop culture/entertainment websites

Scapegoat. My plan is that whatever will be cool when my kids are in their teens, it will effectively and coldly banned from the house. I'll block URLs, kill chat ports, limit cell phone usage, prevent TVs/computers from becoming a permament resident in their rooms, etc. I believe that it is the role of a parent to look out for the best interests and safety of your children; not to be their best friend, a convienient excuse to make up for your lost childhood by spoiling them or living vicariously through them, or even worse, a pawn in some sort of sick and twisted Tug-of-War game between two very immature parents. Pious? Damn straight!

As aforementioned by the questioneer, RATM and the daughter will be staying at my house this Friday, kicking off the ISOS (International Summer of Susan - aka Zen). I will be getting up on Saturday morning and driving to South Padre for a week of drunk in the sun. I have a trip to New York planned in a few weeks. Also just about every weekend is booked from here to autumn.

Yes. See above. I also enjoy long crawls on the beach, and big glasses of Sex on the Beach.

I think the site's name change is a 100% improvement. There is nothing worse than talking about an article in the real world on a site with poop in the title.

The jury is still out for me on the rest of the changes. Many columists I enjoyed are now gone and I am not finding the perfect replacement yet except stalking Britt. Also I have this pervasive sense of having my new step-mom wagging her finger at me for things I may do.

I think that parents are to blame for not policing their children. Just like TV, Internet time should be supervised and not used as a way to get around having to be an active parent. Who else will protect their kids from online sexual predators like me?

We did the Cedar Point trip already which was great, and we're 3 weeks into our volleyball league. In a week, we're going to Mackinac to stay with my girlfriend's family at their cabin, and then swinging over to Alpena that weekend for my family reunion. The reunion is always a great time. Robbo and I talked about getting together, which I still want to work out. If I do that and get in some backpacking/camping, I'll be all set.

Depends on the beach and why I'm walking. Like, if I run out of gas right next to a beach, and the beach is all like the washed-out, rutty kind..........fuck that fucking beach in its ass....beach....hole! But sometimes it's nice.

I haven't seen any suprise movies in the theater yet this year that I can think of. Maybe "Hostel." I had read quite a bit about that movie before I saw it, but it was a lot better than the average slasher flick.

I watched "In Her Shoes" on DVD the other night. That was a ton better than I thought it would be.

4. What do you think of the new site?


It's growing on me.

And by that, I mean it gives me an erection.

My sister, Thor, and their daughter get into town on Saturday. So I'm only working Wednesday of next week so as to spend lots of drinking time with them. As mentioned elsewhere, my white trash birthday party is a week from Saturday. We don't have much planned besides that, but with a kegerator in the garage, who needs plans?

I've been to the beach once in my life...and that was a beach along Lake Michigan...in March. It wasn't much fun.

I hate to be a downer, but so far I'm underwhelmed. Of the new columns, I haven't really found one yet that I really dig. I do like that they are putting everything in Quicktime and YouTube form. The lack of Quicktime on my work computers used to be a drawback on Kevin-connected sites...no more! I do like the increased board activity that the change has produced.

I totally agree with you on Sandler, not a fan , But I'd be lying if I pretended my interest wasn't piqued by the suggestions of people here. I'll probably still wait for video though.

I don't see how anyone could blame myspace. I think I've heard some of the sociological arguments posed about how people are so disconnected because they're spending all their time there instead of spending time with real people and yadda yadda yadda , the death of human interaction. If people didn't want to be there, they wouldn't be , seems simple enough to me.

Started the process, thankfully, after many stop/starts and am now on my way to having this thing finished, roughly, in December.

So far, I have nothing planned. Except for a trip to Disneyland with the semi-boy. You know, not even I can take credit for the white Speedo without a liner joke. I plan on getting married this Friday to the man I've loved for the past three years, online and off. I just started my work vacation of a week and a half and hope to get some R + R in amongst all the wedding calamity. Going to Tennessee for the honeymoon, to see how beautiful the mountains of TN and NC are, cause my fiance drove through them to move here to NC with me.

I would like them, if I were able to get out there. I work second shift 5-6 days a week, so I don't get much beach time, but it is nice.

3. What movie did you think would suck this year, but you watched it anyways, only to like it?

Actually it was the opposite for me. We went to see Hostel thinking it was going to be a great horror/thriller, but it was anything but.

4. What do you think of the new site?

I like it. I didn't see the old one that much since I basically forgot I joined the place then lost the bookmark. But I'm liking the new style, can't complain.

Everybody loves a scapegoat, and I think it's MySpace's turn to play the goat. There's only so much a website can do from it's position, the user/member (and if a minor, the parents) have a major part in the use of the website. It's stupid to let the TV, X-Box, and the Net play babysitter to children and expect to blame those sources of entertainment when a child does something wrong. Last I recall the Net doesn't teach kids the difference between right and wrong. It's the parent's job to enforce that, not a community blog site.

btw, I'm Silent Jo aka Jen. I saw two Introduce Yourself topics but figured I'd just use this one. I joined back in Sept of 2003, but basically forgot about the place, for the most part, especially after I heard it had closed. Anyways, I'm from North Carolina, 24 yrs old, and soon-to-be-married, as told in the first Q+A. Big fan of Kevin Smiths movies, and look forward to seeing Clerks 2 in about three weeks. Plans for the summer are largely complete. I moved into my new house. I had a few weeks to get mostly unpacked. I went to my sister's wedding. I planted a few gardens, made space for another garden, unpacked some more. And then I started my new job. The new job is at a university so summer means maintenance.

I prefer long walks in the mountains. But the beach is a good second choice.

Planning to shoot a few short films with my friends, just to keep ourselves limber during the summer break. We're only in the planning/writing stages at the mo', hopefully we'll be up and running by the start of August.

My plans for the summer basically turned into trying to decide whether or not to get my GED or go through highschool for 4 more years. Still haven't figured that out. As for what I did, I ended up going on vacation with the family to the same place we've went since I was 2. The same beach. Went for a week. The rest of it consisted of hanging out at my boyfriend's place, playing video games and watching videos on YouTube. Fun, no?

American Gangster. I thought it would be just another, " Rise to power, only to fall." but it was much more than that. I just got the DVD, and the extra's disk was almost better than the movie. It had interviews with the real guys from the stories. Awesome.

I like it. I remember looking at it years ago, when I first was turned onto the "askewneverse" and it was ok for that time. I really like this one, easy to navigate, it did take me several times to get registered though.

Myspace is just a webpage, it cant be blamed for anything. I have been a member there for a long time, and have met some of the nicest ppl along with finding alot of my old high school buddies. It has just been used for idiotic thing, by idiots.
