By-Tor - While I do appreciate the joke, please keep it to legitimiate questions in this thread, please.I don't have any legit questions. I'm a smart-ass and can't help it. But you haven't seen a post from me ragging on ANYTHING about the change over. So, yeah, no problem.

Edit: Wait, wait!! I do have one last question.

Is there a Happy Hour, like 2 for 1 posting? We could get these newbs post count up quick if they got credit for 2 posts everytime they posted.

Can we get a breakdown of what days certain columns are being ran? Just an idea.

Here's the current rundown (although there is some fluctuation due to the occassional missed deadline, or if a column is biweekly - however, this is what you can generally plan on):

MONDAY
- Spook’d – Jeffrey Stevenson & Seth Damoose
- Preaching From The Longbox – Britt Schramm
- Widge Goes Off - Widgett Walls
- Party Favors – Joe Corey

TUESDAY
- Rabbit & Cat Adventures - Frank Gibson & Becky Dreistadt
- DVD Late Show - Christopher Mills
- Nocturnal Admissions - D.K. Holm
- Toybox - Michael Crawford
- Terry Gilliam Quickcast

WEDNESDAY
- Monkey Talk - Paul Dini & Rashy
- Strange Impersonation - Kim Morgan
- Brat-Halla – Jeffrey Stevenson & Seth Damoose
- Fat Man Pants - Mattt Potter

THURSDAY
- Fred Hembeck Show - Fred Hembeck
- International Intrigue - Alison Venito
- Music for the Masses - Mark Bell
- Backlash - KJB

FRIDAY
- Game On! - Ian Bonds
- Comics in Context - Peter Sanderson
- Trailer Park - Christopher Stipp
- Film Flam Flummox - Mike Dequina
- Melonpool Quickcast – Steve Troop
- Scrubs Blog
- Weekend Shopping Guide

I agree with Smurfy that it should be listed on the site. It is one of the first things I looked for when I go to a new site is to see an overview.

What if we want to email the columnist directly? There appears to be no email links to individuals just one lump email address.

"Oh and when will Ellen be guesting on your very gay show?"
(That is a quote from Clerks:TAS in case you thought I was serious)

Great question and answer. :) Hey, is there a schedule like that on the front page?

P.S.

Thanks for making the banner link to the front page. I am not sure why it wasn't like that with the old site.

Good idea - we'll add the column schedule to the front page, under the Columns menu.

Regarding the e-mail, we're going to be setting up site e-mails for the individual columnists - but until we can institute that, we've been hardcoding in the addys to the individual columns (depending on whether or not said columnist has indicated they want the addy up there). All other inquiries, as always, can go through the "contact us" link and be forwarded apropriately.

As to Ellen, she keeps turning us down. We have, however, lined up Bear who drives car.

Can you not edit my post, but instead reply like everyone else? It seems like an invasion of my personal space.

And by the way, I think what I said was pretty clear. Main site means www.quickstopentertainment.com

I just love how you tell FanGirl it is a great idea, but a Smurf who uses purple and Comic Sans Ms font is put on the backburner for asking what someone's favorite animal is! Oh, I love being ignored.

Ok, I have a couple:

1. Porn Star Quotes - where is my once a week sunshine?

2. How did you choose Scrubs for the behind the scenes blog?

3. Who are you? (maybe I missed it but it would be a great time for the 'Introduce Yourself' thread to re-appear, hint hint).

4. How much are you really worth? one multiplujillion, nine obsquatumatillion, six hundred twenty-three dollars and sixty-two cents or five multiplujillion, nine impossibidillion, seven fantasticatrillion dollars and sixteen cents.

Sadly, Porn Star Quotes are no more. Sorry about the sunshine.

2. How did you choose Scrubs for the behind the scenes blog?

They followed me from my old gig.

3. Who are you? (maybe I missed it but it would be a great time for the 'Introduce Yourself' thread to re-appear, hint hint).

I'm clearly identified in my welcome article on the site. Kevin wants to do a more formal intro at some point, so I'm in a holding pattern for that.

4. How much are you really worth? one multiplujillion, nine obsquatumatillion, six hundred twenty-three dollars and sixty-two cents or five multiplujillion, nine impossibidillion, seven fantasticatrillion dollars and sixteen cents.

Um..Introduce yourself threads are where you ask questions that everyone answers so you get a better idea of who they are. Not just a open thread with that title which is just asking for newbies to run in front of a firing range. Newbies should know who posts here too.

For example: http://moviepoopshoot.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4955&highlight=introduce

Not that shooting newbies isn't fun, but I don't think you understood what we were asking for.

How about this...

Some random regular (not a newb) board member will come up with some questions that we can all answer; in it's own thread. The author of said thread can then message you and have it become a sticky at the top. It will then remain up there until the next month starts.

Sound good?

I totally agree, set the minimum post count for important members at 500 (nodding to Affleckie). Not that the size of your post count matters, but to be honest, yeah it matters (sob).

I think it is really cool that you are putting out the Welcome Mat for newbies, hell, some of them are probably being referred here by friends or other legitimate means (like I was). Please don’t misunderstand. I assume you are not familiar with the 25 people who would come and try to abuse us with their idiotic posts about how Jay and Silent Bob (http://quickstopentertainment.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4833&highlight=silent) were the shit and we were the ones wearing clown shoes. The influx would at sometimes be fun (http://quickstopentertainment.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3571&highlight=clown+shoes) (when comedy central would play the movie once every month) but get downright annoying at times. Honestly, for every 250 new posters one (http://quickstopentertainment.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4852&highlight=clown+shoes) would stick around and add something intelligent to the site. Shit, it sounds like I actually know what I am talking about, listen to someone who has a higher post count.

Un'L, I think you are doing a bang up job, please stick around and keep up the posting.

Youse guys should be able to access your profile by clicking here (http://www.moviepoopshoot.com/forums/profile.php?do=editprofile).

To change your title is located under the heading of "Custom User Title"

To change your avatar is located, click here (http://www.moviepoopshoot.com/forums/profile.php?do=editavatar)

It should display your current avatar and how to make a custom one (either thru uploading a small 100x100 or 48.8Kb pix or via external URL).

Thank you and please come again...

Thanks for trying to help Britt, but something glitchy happened the last time the boards changed over ( April or May 05 , I can't remember ) But some of us don't have the options most users get.

For instance if I click on change Avatar , I can delete the one I have, but then "Do not use avatar" is selected and will not unselect.
There is no option from my user cp to change my title. Trust me , I've looked.

But again thanks for trying.

Valid point. However, I'm pretty sure that you and every other veteran of this board can smell spam a mile away, so who cares if it's a first posting or not? All spam must be destroyed.

Besides, the counts are still available under the profile so if that's really your concern, you can still get to that information.

From what I've seen, most are using post counts to "throw down on the table" to see who has the biggest. . .

Pretty useful in determining if someone is using their first post to spam or not. For those of us who can't keep track of all the new names around here.

No matter how hard people try to pimp "fairness" and "equality", it is a deeply ingrained part of human nature, this... social ranking. This, to me, is like some of these schools and sports leagues that don't keep score because they don't want anyone to walk away a loser or have their feelings hurt. The intentions are good, but the execution is frustrating. The post counter isn't just a tool for identifying noobs and dweebs, but it is a badge of honor worthy of some respect for those of us who've been a member of this community for three or more years. I know we can look it up in a profile (for now) but honestly, some of these people don't even know what a period is for- they're not going to bother looking it up.

Which is why I theorize that they removed them from the boards side of things. It takes away any sense of superiority or old-guard status that we may hold against certain individuals who are here for the long haul as their job dictates.

It's nothing to get upset over at all. Quite frankly, it should be done strictly for those reasons. I'd do it if I were in the same position. The timing of it was excellent. If it had happened in the first week after the change over, a couple of us would have been all up in arms over it and threatned to never again post here.

But, I've got "war wounds" to show for it. We've lost some quality posters since I've been here, also. Newbs are less likely to stir the shit with a regular if they see post count, IMO. Probably just a coupla pissy Texans, but who else out there liked being able to see post count by simply checking a post? If it don't come back, who cares, but I still think it's bush league.

I never really kept up with the post counts on the side, but i did notice they were gone at about the same time I switched from a PC to a MAC. I thought it was something wrong on my end.

So is there a way to seperate the Boards from the main site so that whatever was sucking up all the Bandwidth doesn't bog this down again?

Razorback

From what I've seen, most are using post counts to "throw down on the table" to see who has the biggest. . .

Please, I will throw down on any board, even if I have only 15 postings (check out a few heavy metal sites and watch me rip apart the veterans with 20,000 postings to my 12).

For me, the post count means little. Hell, most of my postings occured in a very short time, and then I slacked off (at one point I had a 5:1 ratio posting to the next highest). However, to these other chucklenuts it is important because it validates their time here.

You actually promote less posting when you remove such things (yes, yes, the post count is still available if you sell your first born or click on the profile). I have seen it done on other boards and within a few months the post count display was back because people stopped caring since they couldn't flaunt their time on the board.

I know, it is silly, but people really do think that way.

How soon until we start seeing [censored] again? Some 12 year-old probably came in here all "jay n slint bub rawk pwns l8tr", got flamed and then cried about it. But you know what? This place is that much better because at one point we all had to go through the flames. Those that stick it out have become interresting and valuable members of this little community. But this apparent trend towards fairness and all-inclusiveness is just going to lead to mediocrity and like RB said, a lot of people are just going to stop caring. I know I don't want to come to a board populated by a bunch of dweebs that can't spell and have an average IQ equivalent to a third- no, first grader.

Those that stick it out have become interresting and valuable members of this little community..Anyone who was here from the beginning knows that flaming noobs is a tradition that stems from the fact that too many out-of-control/unflamed noobs took over these boards and ultimately caused them to be shut down for a few months. It's another to have an admin as an actual prescense on the board. In the immortal words of Geroge Bush "we (regulars) will stand down when they (admins) stand up." If we get a group of moderators big enough to where at least one or two would be on the board at any given time, that would keep this forum relatively clean of n00bs [the bad kind], trolls, and other annoyances. especially in this section.

Will our locations be removed? Titles? Names?

That's one question that many people in this thread have been concerned about.

Another thing that has been alluded to is: Considering the influx of newbies that have been a problem are you going to have more of a prescence here? Can you make some people mods to help if not?

Subquestion, do you read all the threads or do you just respond to alerts sent out?

Although I am sure that I am gonna get trolled to hell for this, I have to get this out. I have noticed the term Noob (newb, No0B, etc.) used quite often all over this site. The way I've seen it used it often comes out as a dirty word. Granted I have it in my signature, but I'm not the only one to have a dirty word in my signature as a joke. However I have seen is used here directly describing new members... And it has been made very clear that new people are not wanted here, just from reading this thread alone. I for one have not been made to feel the least bit welcome since I started here a couple of weeks ago, and I have done my best to post often and be as nice as possible. Has this board become an exclusive club? Should I not bother, because it seems that no new person will be particularly welcome. I am not trying to be mean. I generally have found I enjoy reading just about everyones posts here. I just want to know if I should even bother.

As long as you lurk for awhile, get to know who you should avoid and who you could be netbuddies with [it's different for every person] and then contribute to whatever threads are started and what not, you will still be a n00b...but in a good way! Then eventually, you will graduate from n00bdom and be considered a regular. You see, n00b simply means you're new here, and every n00b gets his/her flame at least once, everybody does. You gotta learn to ignore the minor flames and not let them get to you. Besides, its the internet! Shit happens!

anyway...You're a good n00b if you don't try to piss the members off, act smart on the forums, don't spam, and read before you post.

You're a bad n00b if you DO do the things listed above. It just depends on the n00b.

So far, it looks like you know how to spell and grammarize and type in a competent manner. You've earned some "Good" points!

I understand what a noob is and what it means. But in certaint context it is a dirty word. I have seen people use it in a negative way. I understand I am a noob here and that is fine, but I have seen it being used in a very mean way. I play an MMO, and my guild has had to practically ban the word because of the negative tone it can take.

We were all newbies once and we all had to come through some sort of hazing. I think ByTor had it the worst because he signed on right after some horrible poster who got banned because of all the racial slurs and going after members. No one trusted that he wasn't this same guy for a long time.

Here's the history on this board. When it was first launched it was riddled with posters swearing, name calling and spamming to the point that Ryall's only hope was to shut the boards down. Eventually, he relaunched them and kept a dilligent eye on them and a group of regular posters made friends on and off the boards. We were untied by the fact that we wanted to have a regular place to hang out.

We have been riddled with posters who only post a few times, quote jay and silent bob, name call and start wars. The other weird thing about this board is a lot of the regulars are pushing or are over 30 so when thess younger kids come in and can't type full sentences and speak in L337 it comes off as annoying and basically disrespectful.

If you lurk around these boards you will see the amount of new posters we have had to fend off during the years and will understand why we are so hard on people who just come in and post a few times to plug their stuff or piss people off. We are welcoming of new people once they show us they can speak english, aren't plugging stuff and aren't here to piss people off.

It's just that this is a community and not just a message board. We all formed that bond when one of our regulars died since then we have become that much more portective of these boards. The outpouring of genuine concern was and grieving over someone on the internet whom we had never met was quite awesome.

We don't mean to be cliquey. But if you had been through what we have been through to keep these boards from being shut down, you might understand.

Purple Pixie has voiced exactly why the post count was eliminated from the left-hand member info.

I understand what you may have gone through in the past as a community in regards to the influx of new members, but that is no excuse for the intimidation and paranoia I've seen whenever a new person dares wade into what some of the members seem to see as a private pool. This is a public forum with what I hope will be a growing, thriving community. If a problem arises, it will be dealt with - but that doesn't mean that everyone should be on a hair trigger as soon as someone steps through the door.

This will likely be my last comment on this subject. I thought about sending it as a PM to Unca but after reading it you might understand why I posted it instead.

First, I realize that it's not only Unca's ball but his whole damn playground. Ultimately, whatever he wants to do with it is up to him. I totally respect that. This isn't a democracy or even an autocracy of the old-school though it might arguably thrive more successfully that way.

Second, I think it is a mistake for me to expect someone new to the forums to really get why we appear to be so unwelcome. The entire input Unca has gained from the boards probably came from skimming this thread and reading the PMs he gets. So, let's say Unca only gets three PMs this month, one saying 'welcome to the 'shoot' and two that are new members saying they felt unwelcome. He'll think 'awww that's nice' to the welcome before promptly forgetting about it. Then he's gonna read the posts (and probably not the enitre threads) that contain the offending material from the other two. From those posts he'll probably agree with what the PM said, that we weren't very nice. This is especially true if one of the PMs came from a columnist on the site (which it almost certainly did). So yeah, considering what Unca knows about us, the changes he's made probably make sense.

There is a lot of respect and, dare I say, friendship among those who have been here a while. Is Unca gonna realize that there are plenty of strangers like Douglasfairbanks out there who show up, insult us, insult our friends and then disappear? No, because nobody reports anything unless it's dougy crying about it. I mean, in his thread title he threatened to kill me if I express my opinion? Should I really be welcoming him with open arms?

So Unca, how is a community going to thrive if we allow strangers to come and insult and disrupt the very social network you are trying to promote? It happens often enough that you would get tired of reading all the PMs if we each reported every new member who came here just to disrupt the community. In fact, you might even shut the boards down after getting a few hate mails from those you banned. It's been known to happen.

Now, I wouldn't dream of telling you how to do your job, like I said, it's your playground. This is just one person's opinion. But if you are really telling the truth when you say you want this community to thrive and grow, then the person who is making the changes and the rules and wielding the power needs to be involved in the community itself and read the threads and respond and be a part of what's going on. Otherwise you are just going to end up as an absentee slumlord. If you are involved in the community you can tell us when we cross the line (and believe me, I know we do) instead of creating blanket changes that affect all of us without any of us knowing why or what event triggered the change.

Finally, I think the new content and the people who have been brought on board to the Quickstop are going to go a long way toward making this site bigger and better. I am a big fan of the board community growing with it.

I completely agree with what TK and others have said. Basically it comes down to standards. Should we lower our standards and expectations of new members (<- note the absence of the term 'newb') and encourage the annoying kiddy lingo typing (I'd use an example, but I honestly don't know any of it), excuse the first post telling us that all us motherfuckers will die, and click on all those spam links?? Because, if that's what you're telling me, this is not a community I want to be a part of.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not going to throw a tanty and storm off, I just believe that these boards and the world at large is getting a shittier place to live in, due to two main things: 1 - lowering of expectations to the gutter, and 2 - lack of parental control (And that's where you come in Scrooge).

Mr Scrooge - I bolded the question as it appears you have trouble distinguishing questions from general comments.

Mr Scrooge - I bolded the question as it appears you have trouble distinguishing questions from general comments.

An insult is quite a good way to start a dialogue.

And by the way - call me Ken.

Did I in any way, shape, fashion, or form say that "standards should be lowered"? Any disruptive elements that have reared their heads in the forum these past few months have been dealt with.

As to what happened before I got here - that period does not exist for me, as I was not here to experience it. I came in with a fresh eye and an eagerness to keep the existing community going (despite all the Chicken Littles starting their "sky is falling" threads during the transition, and recommendations that I wipe the boards and start from scratch) while at the same time growing it with an influx of new members.

In the past few months, I have seen how this board tends to act on suspicion first, with a guilty until proven innoncent attitude towards anyone who wades into the discussions here. Again, I wasn't here for what happened in the past, but that kind of attitude is not constructive. I will tell you this - if a disruptive influence surfaces on the board, they will be dealt with immediately. Relax and let people fuck up before you burn them. Then by all means - light the torches.

And, as TK pointed out, at the end of the day, I run this board. I make decisions as I see fit in order to do my job effectively. End of story. Nothing is set in stone, and if I see a valid argument to the contrary of a decision that I have made, I will take it into consideration.

About participating in threads - let's just say that I was not made to feel terribly welcome on my own board when I arrived. Think about that, and maybe you'll see where my opinions regarding the atmosphere around here were formed.

Actually I finished with it.

I'll try to remember that, Ken.

Of course you didn't send out a memo to that effect, it was the implication of it that's all. And I was as pleased as everyone else that Dougie2nd was dealt the death knock this week, but perhaps earlier intervention by yourself would have meant the regs didn't have to open a can of whoop-ass on him. To be clear, I don't mean intervention in that he should have been banned earlier, but definately a warning was warranted. Perhaps you did this by PM, who knows.

Whilst I respect the fact that it didn't exist for you, perhaps you can respect that it certainly did exist for the vast majority of us.

In the past few months, I have seen how this board tends to act on suspicion first, with a guilty until proven innoncent attitude towards anyone who wades into the discussions here. Again, I wasn't here for what happened in the past, but that kind of attitude is not constructive. Hey man, I completely agree with you. And I would say that in most situations this is how it goes. Maybe I've just been here too long and don't see where posts may seem negative for no reason. I guess in the past (and don't fall asleep here) the guilty were dealt with fairly promptly, often before any complaint because the moderator had a presence on the board. I for one, rarely complain because I assume you would be reading all the threads and would deal with any farktards in due course. Obviously this isn't the case, and now that I realise, I will go to the effort to join the Cindy Brady brigade.

And, as TK pointed out, at the end of the day, I run this board. I make decisions as I see fit in order to do my job effectively. End of story. Nothing is set in stone, and if I see a valid argument to the contrary of a decision that I have made, I will take it into consideration.

Frankly, I'm relieved the boards are still here and I personally apologise if I was one to make you feel unwelcome. That said, with the change came months of next to zero information filtering through to us and with uncertainty comes paranoia and anarchy. If there's one thing I've learned in life, it's that communication is key. And without sounding mightier than thou, without the members on this board you've got nothing. Where you may have felt unwelcome, we were feeling unwanted and unimportant. I honestly believe if you were to be more involved in the myriad of other topics here, you'd get to know us, we'd get to know you, and we could all dance around holding hands!

I'm honestly not trying to tell you how to do your job, just trying to show you how one member of this board feels.

without the members on this board you've got nothing.
The Awesome Ozzie just made an interesting statement. Where the hell did we get this sense of hubris? I am not going to fall into the illusion that just because we are the ones who post here, that doesn't mean we're the only ones visiting the site. The major slowdown last week should prove that. How many of us visit the View Askew site, don't post on it's message boards, and still commit the same actions that drove us away from the VA boards in the first place?

However during the whole change over, we were given no information for months. All we heard was Ryall was leaving and...

-Months later-

MPS was being shut down, or changed or removed or, we don't know. How crypic was that message? What did that mean for the boards? We didn't know. But do you think for a moment that lack of communication would have happened on the VA site: a small article, then a youtube announcement three months later and that's all? Kevin would have held their hands the whole time and then there would have been a great internet piece somewhere about how much Big Kev loves his fans. I'm not blaming anyone, and this sounds like misplaced anger, but it's kind of clear we're the bastard children of the Viewaskewniverse, if we even rank so high as to be considered a part of that.

Why aren't we good enough, Daddy?

But, Uncle dear, our relationship with you is like any pop culture relationship: we start out at each others' throats, slowly come around, and eventually wind up in bed together. Then in the third act you come and break up the wedding as we're about to marry some snobby rich guy that is obviously not right for us.

Point being, we want you here. Any perceived hostility is just frustration that you aren't a more regular part of our community. We want to put on on a pedestal...that one over there, encrusted in gold. We want to sacrifice noobs in your honor. We want to sit at your feet and listen to your stories.

But so far, I guess your name is Ken. And we just found that out today.

Why won't you let us in?

Which goes to show that very few of you actually look at the site this board is attached to, as I'm all over it, under my "real" name.

As to the months of silence and no communication as to what was going on - I was hired at the very tail end of that, long after Ryall's departure. To complicate matters, I was unable to post anything of substance (including my identity) until certain background issues were resolved - it was not by choice.

And to anyone still feeling unwanted and unloved? Get over it. If I didn't want you endearingly annoying little bastiches around, I would have wiped this board from the beginning and started my reign of terror with a fresh forum, casting you all to the fates upon your hastily constructed MySpace rafts.

I love you all. Some more than others. Some way more than others.

Some way more than others.

First off, I believe I resemble that remark.

Mr Scrooge - I bolded the question as it appears you have trouble distinguishing questions from general comments.

An insult is quite a good way to start a dialogue.

It’s not an insult it’s merely pointing out that you yourself have said:

Such as? I haven't seen a question I need to address yet... Anything in particular you're thinking of?

Despite the numerous questions that were asked in the thread alone. Not to mention the fact that you removed one of my posts once, but that was the second time I had brought up that particular point. The first time I mentioned was left up on the board with other questions I had asked that never got answered. So, that’s two cases right there were you missed something that was posted.

As to what happened before I got here - that period does not exist for me, as I was not here to experience it.

Those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it.

About participating in threads - let's just say that I was not made to feel terribly welcome on my own board when I arrived. Think about that, and maybe you'll see where my opinions regarding the atmosphere around here were formed.

You replaced a beloved man who built this site from scratch. You were a hired gun who came in and made changes and replace his now empty seat. This is not your fault, but you didn’t even try to acknowledge the fact that these were major changes for your readers and the members of this site. I guess you thought we would just be here with open arms. Your very first post was saying you would allow us to ask you 5 questions. No introduction. Not even a message saying “Hey, I hate to be mysterious, but I can’t go too far into detail on what’s going on. I want to let you know that someone is running this site and I have high hopes of the future.” We had nothing, but empty promises from Kevin, a poster who was a destructive presence and no answer at all from our pleas to get him banned (not even from Ming) until I posted in your 5 questions thread. So, you can’t really equate your introduction to these boards as the same as some fan you just discovered the site and decided to post on it.

Did I in any way, shape, fashion, or form say that "standards should be lowered"?
No, but you’re not giving us examples of how we’re being unwelcoming to newbies nor are you telling us how we should be acting either. You just keep reprimanding us for it. We’re having to make assumptions due to lack of information. Ozchick said it best. It’s all about communication. We’re just asking that you communicate more with us than 7 posts in a month. Maybe if you came down from the rafters and participated in conversations instead of only coming in when there are problems it would be easier to see you as the admin of this site and a normal person instead of the new replacement that is only making changes to something that we all knew and loved.

That's a funny comment because you hardly know us. So, how can you have this "love" that you speak of? We just found out your name, or so you say, is "Ken." Well, that's just great, but how long have these boards been around? I understand that you want to run the site and keep tabs on whatever you feel is "justice," but we had a special connection with Ryall. Just because he ran the site, moderated the board and still had a life outside of here (and a baby!) he still kept in touch. You seem like this is just a job and you get paid for running a site, and that is what you look forward to - a fucking pay check? I don't know about you, but if I had a job that I love, which I do, I'd make the best of it (which I am). Aren't your supposed to make it fun and something you want to come back to everyday? Then why not get off your ass and get to know us for who we are instead of a number that makes the site-meter go up. I just feel that if you want people to like you, you need to show the same respect.

Oh, and quit making excuses. It makes you look like a fucking five-year-old.

Just to clarify two things:

1. In my opening statement on the site that none of you seem to read (the one that keeps these message boards going), I made it a point to thank Chris and Scott for everything they'd done for MoviePoopShoot.

and...

2. MoviePoopShoot no longer exists. "This site" is Quick Stop Entertainment. It is my responsibility, and my passion, to develop this new beast born from the ashes of MPS.

I am not a "hired gun", as you so dismissively put it - and, frankly, I take that as an incredible insult.

Well, I know that a while ago Ken did say that he had to put off his introduction because Kevin (the man with the money) asked him to. I can deal with that, and I can wait, but it is hard to deal with the fact that our board is changing and we don’t have any clue who Ken Plume is. Hearing that MPS is dead was a slap in the face, I will have to learn to deal with that (someday).

Ken, I think that you mentioned that people treated you and other 'newer' people without respect. For the most part, I think it is like someone walking into a house party, everyone turns and looks at the new person and they feel singled out because of it. I don’t think any new person who comes in and makes quality posts is going to get anything but respect here, I have seen people come in the door and belong after 10 posts (airionnablue (http://member.php?u=7129)), then there are some people who, after 2,789 posts still cannot seem to keep themselves from randomly replying with pictures of WWE wrestlers (WHAT!). I don’t want to downplay anything that goes on here - If someone wants to act like a newb, they will be treated as such, if they are going to start random threads where there is already a place for them to post, they will lightly hazed so they know that it is unacceptable. If they abuse the regulars, we will respond in kind, just like if we were at that house party and some drunk idiot decided to sucker punch a friend.

Personally, I applaud your effort to grow the site, I appreciate your passion, I would ask that you please keep the 50 or so people who have stuck with this forum in mind when you are making changes. As far as getting offended at being called a hired gun, I cannot relate, I have been trying to gain that mystique my whole life, you know, lone gunman, wears black, cat-like reflexes, dangerous eyes (I am never going to be considered dangerous if I keep romanticizing like this in public).

Bytor, I don't know what makes you think that man, because nothing I've read in his replies makes me think it. So the guy played with Robbo for 5 mins. So what? Who hasn't done that ;).. Nope this whole thing has made me realise that you guys (you and the rest of the riff raff regulars) are the ones that make me want to check the boards every day and why I hang around. It's not Kevin and it's certainly not Mr Plume. So, until Mr Plume ventures out of this thread and starts actively socialising on these boards, I will think of him as a faceless nobody attached to the Spam Alert button.

And Ken, just for your information, I did read your intro on the main page, however, your name never stuck in my head, I guess due to the fact, I rarely saw you around here. In addition, I check the main site every couple of days. Not much there interests me anymore, but what does, I do in fact, read.

Ken,

Telling the people you take over that whatever happened before you got there means nothing, is a good way to get people to turn against you. It adds an element of confrontation that 1) wasn't necessary and 2) was instigated by you.

See, if you want to make an effective change while keeping the old timers around, you COMMUNICATE every change. You detail why changes are being made and maybe even receive input about them if you have that option (if you are being given orders from above then this part is not necessary).

The best admins/managers don't just lead people, they motivate people. Effective change managers don't just lead people into change, they effectively make the people feel like the change was NECESSARY. They do this via the communication process I mentioned earlier (as well as other elements I am sure you don't care to hear about).

If you keep people in the loop, even if you feel they don't deserve to know ahead of time because you are the all mighty admin/manager, then they will be less likely to feel the pains of the change. Sure, people will complain. They will dislike some things and they may even hold a grudge, but if you communicate your changes ahead of time and detail your justification for them then you have done what any leader should do in times of change.

Now, I am not here to preach to you about how you should do your job, but there are ways to get your points across, when in a position of power, and there are ways not to do it. So far, you have made errors, as did Ryall and Ming in the past. However, I think you are wise enough to be able to learn from your mistakes and attack this problem proactively.

I know we can all get along and learn to love each other. You don't have to be as likeable as Ryall. However, if you don't have the personality or loyalty of the person before you, then you had better have something to offer people or they will turn against you.

Just some words of advice from the greatest leader/manager/Project Manager/change manager/technical writer ever.

Geeez Robbo! Why do you have to be so mean? Calling me stupid! That is so very heartless and cruel. I have to go cry now...

You don't have to be as likeable as Ryall.

How come I have to be dead and buried before you finally admitted this burning love you've obviously always had for me?

One correction, though--I never made any mistakes while I was here. You're obviously thinking of someone else.

Absolutely not. What I meant was, no mistakes were ever made the entire time we were here... except for choosing not to ban Razorback, of course.

awwww
I didn't want to be left out

While I'm here I might aswell air my thoughts on the matter seems as I would have an unusual look on the board to everyone else

If you look at my join-date and my post count you'll see that after 3 and a half years on this message board I havent posted much
I'm not as REGULAR as the other regulars so it's made it easier for me to notice changes in the community as I'm a little more detached than everyone else

Yeah, everyone is freaking out right now
While this is has made things a little more interesting than usual around here it also means that you might not be getting the right impression of us dude (if I can call you dude, dude)
So if they seemed unwelcoming don't take it personally, I've NEVER felt that welcomed and I've dealt with them when they were all chilled out ;)

I understand that you're concerned about the hazing that goes on with new people but to be honest flaming and the internet go hand in hand, I'd be EXTREMELY suprised to find a message board that flames less than us though

Besides, as I said in an earlier post, I like the fact that you're being firm
You're an admin, its part of your job
Just don't make judgements on us yet, we're tough on the outside but squishy on the inside... much like armadillos

According to tech guru (and all-around swell guy) Ming, it was a RAM issue with the server - I had limited access to the Admin of the main site during the down time, and no clear information as to what was going on, hence no "status update" could be posted on the main site. I did, however, e-mail JK in response to his query - if anything like this happens again, don't hesitate to try and reach me via mail@quickstopentertainment.com

It's a very frustrating thing when a site goes down, but we should be on the mend. These things, unfortunately, do happen occassionally.

I had about 6.2 sec. in which I was insecure and felt that it was just me who has having these problems. Then I took the lithium and it got all better.

I couldn't help myself. I had to push the button. It was right there, big and shiny, and it begged to be touched. I promise not to do it again for at least a week.
