View Full Version : America's Roller Coast

My girlfriend and I went to Cedar Point last weekend with her roommate and the roomy's husband. The "Roller Coaster Capital of the World" is located in Sandusky, OH on the coast of Lake Eerie, which is only a little over 3 hours away from where I live. I've been going there for years, but this was easily the most fun I've had at the park. Normally, I end up with a group of people who all have different tastes, agendas, or ages, and we have to cater to everyone....leaving big rides unridden. This time it was a simple group with the same thing in mind. THE BIG RIDES. Here's the list we did: Millennium Force (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/millennium_force/index.cfm) (310 ft. high, 90+ mph), Mantis (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/mantis/index.cfm) (stand-up, 137 ft. drop, 60+ mph), MaxAir (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/thrill/maxair/index.cfm) x2 (140 ft. max swing, 70+ mph), Wicked Twister (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/wicked_twister/index.cfm) (Two 450-degree vertical twists, 70+ mph), Top Thrill Dragster (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/top_thrill_dragster/index.cfm) (420 ft. high, 120+ mph), The Magnum (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/magnum/index.cfm) x2 (205 ft. high, 70+ mph), my personal favorite: Raptor (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/raptor/index.cfm) x3 ("Six upside-down turns: one vertical loop, two inverted corkscrews, a zero-gravity roll and a "cobra roll" that turns riders upside down twice"), Power Tower (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/thrill/power_tower/index.cfm) (240 ft. drop or launch), and Disaster Transport (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/disaster_transport/index.cfm) because it's enclosed and air conditioned.

That leaves out 7 medium-to-large coasters, and 4 "aggressive" thrill rides that we didn't even do, not to mention 30+ moderate-to-tranquil rides and the water park. I just can't believe how much stuff there is to do there now.

Anyway, I just had to pimp Cedar Point to anyone who likes thrill rides because we had so much fun there.

...most of the time.

Man, I miss riding a good roller coaster. I can't wait for my boy to get that growth spurt so we can ride them together.

I rarely get to go roller-coastering. The wife likes spinny rides - they make me sick. I like roller coasters - she's terrified of them. Since we can't agree on rides, we just don't go to amusement parks.

We did ride the New York, New York roller coaster when we were in Vegas last month. Far too expensive for such a short ride.

I thought the same thing the last time I had a lap dance in Vegas. Good to hear some things never change. :D

I haven't ridden either of those rides in Vegas. I did the "Alexis Park Hot-Tub" and the "Bachelorette Party," but that's about it. I ate at the Pink Taco a few times. They make great Bloody Mary's.

...what?

I have to mention that most of the links for the rides I listed have POV videos of them being ridden. And I should point it out, if it wasn't obvious, that's my girlfriend in the Michigan sweatshirt. :)

Having known you for more than a short time I think your girlfriend's face in that picture sums up the thrill ride that is all things dating Karma. :)

I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I'm sure that they both apply. :D

I've been hearing for years now that the Magnum is going to be taken apart and sold to a Japanese amusement park because the ground under it is sinking. Is there any truth to this or is it just rumor?

Cedar Pointe is amazing, I went every summer from the age of 6 to 18, but I havn't been since. Because I'm already in Ohio, I just might have to make a trip up there...

No joke, I almost flew off 'Splash Mountain.' I probably rose about 10 inches before I reached the bottom and have never trusted roller coasters again.

When I did, I went to Magic Mountain and rode this crazy ass ride named Goliath(I think) that had a huge drop, and again, the same thing happened. If it weren't for me grabbing onto my ex-best friend's hair, I would have died.

Small World is still my favorite ride primarily because of the time Smurfy, Zens and Denyse and I had on it.

The It's a Small World ride is possibly the most boring ride EVER. It was like the ride that never ends. In fact it shouldn't even be called a ride. And why were the koalas purple??

And that is because you have never been on it with us. :)

It now makes sense why I should not have ever let Smurfy ride between my legs on the Logging Ride. I remember she slammed back into me so hard I went temporaily flat chested!

:( That was hurtful. And unnecessary.

In Vienna, are Vienna Sausages just called Sausages?

In Hamburg, is the Hamburger a Chopped Steak Sandwich?

In France is it just called toast? What about fries?

Is American cheese all that we got? If so, that sucks. It isn't even real cheese.

Actually, in France they have an american sanwich. It's steak with fries and mayo between two pieces of bread.

jjcourtright
06-23-2006, 03:22 PM
Why would they a ruin perfectly good steak by putting mayo on it? And what's so American about such a sandwich, anyway?

FanGirl
06-23-2006, 03:26 PM
Fries on the sandwich is what is weird. I think that we just take other people's dishes and change them so it's hard to pinpoint something that's a good representation. I mean tempura and chop suey are 100% developed by us, but no one here would call them american.
