The upfronts are over and new shows are beginning to appear. Since some of these shows might not make it, I thought I would start one thread where we can talk about them as we watch them. If they survive and turn into something good, then they can get their own thread.
I tried "The New Adventures of Old Christine." It wasn't bad. Very sitcom-y. Julia did a good job and all. Nothing really compelling me to see another episode, though. It'll work for replacing Everybody Loves Raymond. It was nice to see divorced people acting nice to each other since that's how my parents were. That's probably the first time I've watched something on CBS since Murphy Brown went off the air.
Anyone else see any of the new shows?

Sorry to already derail the topic, but I love to watch Candance Bergen on Boston Legal. That woman just never ceases to impress me...and she looks fantastic.
I don't know that i've seen any of the new shows yet. I have seen a few episodes of "Christine" and it didn't offend me the way "4 Kings" did. You're right, it seems like the typical sitcom, I kind of like the catty women(especially the dumb one) at the school, although why Christine would want to be apart of that clique is beyond me.

There are a few that are summer shows and some of the pilots are leaking around. One of my friends saw the Studio 60 pilot. Said it looks pretty good.

Lost season 2 is slated for Septemeber release. No word that I've heard on when full BSG second season is out. However, the Emmy screeners that went out for BSG were the entire second season with no frills.

Yeah, but most of us don't live in L.A. ;)
That reminds me. The "Heat Vision and Jack" pilot from a few years back is up on YouTube. Anybody who hasn't seen it should check it out. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lWgXDOAJ5s&search=heat%20vision%20and%20jack) "Knowledge is power. For real."

I keep forgetting I live in LA sometimes. There is a bar here that does screening nights of all the failed pilots. I saw Heat Vision and Jack a few years ago. There is rumor of it being a movie.

New shows? I can't waste my time with new shows. I didn't even watch Arrested Development until its second season, which usually would be a viewer's sin, but thanks to television series coming to DVD almost immediately after they air, its not a big deal anymore. I got into 24 the same way. "My Name is Earl" is one of the few shows that hooked me first season. I know there's a few shows out there that are brilliant and only last one season, but those are very few and far inbetween.

Actually, he'd say that Jason Lee has a new show. He was never more than a year behind the rest of the world.
Speaking of being a year behind... because, i'll pretty much watch a test pattern, i watched NBC's "Last Comic Standing" last night. It was pretty good, showing the auditions and such. That's got to be so hard, auditioning for 2 guys in an empty theatre that don't laugh at all. I was surprised to see Theo from "Road Rules" get the Audience favorite pass to the next level of the show. From the little i saw he wasn't very funny at all, I figure that he got by on his Name alone. Not that that worked for Skippy from "Family Ties" who didn't make it past the auditions. I wonder if Boner from "Growing Pains" will be on the show next year?
There was one contestant with Cerebal Palsy, at first i thought "ohhhh, no. Here comes Jerry from 'Facts of Life'", (why is everything coming back to 80's sitcoms today?) But the dude was really funny. He sort of looked like a guy who used to wash dishes at the International Deli when i worked there, all long hair, and scraggily hair. I look forward to seeing him progress thru the show.
Another face to watch is a blond girl who almost didn't make it into the auditions, but convinced the 2 douchie judges to let her tell one more joke. It's a good thing she did, because she made it thru to the next round.
Anyway, this is just a long way of saying i'm enjoying this show, i hope i doesn't turn into an obsession like American Idol did.

I'm excited about the LCS as well. I like that it's not based on contestants butchering material from other comics, but their own work.
One thing I don't like about the casting, is that they used up so many of the slots in the first three cities, that the last two cities got five slots between them. That happened in Nashville the last time they had auditions, and some very funny people got left out merely because they weren't in the first two cities.
I am excited to see how this pans out though. I hope Theo gets booted off before the real show begins. Isn't he supposed to be on the next season of Road Rules/Real World Semi-Athletic Ego Fest? Let some others get some 15-reality minutes.
EDIT: Yeah, I thought the palsy guy was going to be a charity case, and then he turned out to be freakin' hilarious, but I'm pulling for my cleft-lipped sister.
I had forgotten all about the Lisper!
It seems like every city they went to, had one fewer slot open, so that by the time they got to Miami there were only 2 slots. If I was a comic, i would have to wrestle with auditioning in LA where the most slots were, but the greatest competition, and someplace like Austin or Chicago where there were less slots but less competition.
(thought with the lonestar guy, i looked like you could just travel around and audition at them all.)

(thought with the lonestar guy, i looked like you could just travel around and audition at them all.)Yeah, there's nothing against it, but not everyone can afford to get to every city; especially anyone who had to ask off from work for two days just to find out that there were only two slots left for their town just because it was at the end of the list.
Not only that, but there are obviously some ringers in each city; guys that have been touring and laboring in near-obscurity save morning radio shows and this seems to be their last ditch effort to try to get some fame.

I watched "Lovespring" the other day. It was remarkably funny and not the type of humor I expected from something on the Lifetime network.
I stumbled upon it as well. It's got a good cast (Reno 911, Best in Show alums). It was worth watching, i think.
OK, as if to prove my point that i will not only watch total crap, but enjoy it as well, I watched the 2 hour premier of Hell's Kitchen last night. Oh Gordon Ramsey, you Loud British Asshole you, I find you so appealing, what with all your cursing and all.
This season finds us much where we left off last year, with a bunch of wannabe chefs being verbally abused by Gordo. This year the "twist" (i use that term loosely) is that it's boys v. girls. Wow, just like the best Real World / Road Rules Challanges!
So highlights from this special two hour episode:
Larry the Fishmonger has a heartattack from the stress of the show, the morning after drinking in the hottub with the ladies. (his weakness, according to him) Before the men even lose a competition, he's off the show.
Tom the Former Stockbroker sweating into the food he's making. How this toad escapes being hung on Gordon's meathook, i don't know. chances are, he will before the show is over.
Heather burning her hand off during dinner service.
In the previews it said that 2 people would go to the hospital. then they came back from commercial and had a steak cutting challange. I watched in horror, half turned from the screen, as i was sure that some one was going to slice their hand off, but it was not to be, the ambulances were used for Larry and Heather. Boy am i glad of that. I don't know what it says about me that i would rather see someone burned than cut, but i would, evidently, because Heather's injury didn't cause me nearly the pain that the imaginary lopping of a limb did.
Also of note from the show, some toolbox that wanted pumpkin in his risotto. What is it about these assholes on this show that they march up to the kitchen and demand their food. Is it a California thing? Never in my life have i gone into someones kitchen at a resturant to complain. These assholes know that they are at "Hell's Kitchen" on opening night, and more than likely, they aren't going to get a damn thing to eat. So keep your pompous ass in your seat jackass. The only good thing to come out of that, is Gordo giving the guy a good verbal asskicking.
Finally, i love that not only does Fox bleep out the curse words, but also blurs the offending utterances from the speakers lips. Brilliant!

I too enjoyed the show and was waiting for something horrid to send two people to the hospital. Fox does know how to keep an audience.
Who is your bet on the winner? I think it's going to come down to the chick that was on fire and the guy who had to pick who to send home.
My favorites are the former Prison Chef and the Heather the burn girl. That's who i hope the final two will be. Although the 'salad chef' with the big boobs is going to try to seduce Gordon at somepoint, and may make a suprise run for the win.

So anyway, i watched Last Comic Standing last night, and what a rip off. either i'm totally out of sync with what is funny, or they producers has the list of contenders made up before the night even wore on.
Lispy Lisperson didn't make it. what!?! Whe was awesome, especially in the 1 on 1 interview, Doug Benson didn't either? Is he too big for the show or something? You put Bill Dywer on instead of him?
As John Stossel would say, "Give me a break."

I tried to watch this season but for whatever reason, it didn't feel right. Maybe because Season 1 just can't be topped between Dat Phan getting ditched during "Hide & Seek" and still winning the competition, the "Family" head by godfather Rich Vos and the true comic genius that is Dave Mordal. Damn, that was a great season.

What!! They offed my hair-lipped sister? I understand I guess, since they let the palsy guy through (who was also funny as hell), so they got their handi-capable quotient. I was pulling for her, because if she won, I was going to e-mail her and tell her to donate money to my favorite charity (and presumably hers) Operation Smile.
And the Bill Dwyer thing is the only thing holding this show back from greatness. Dywer is already an established comic, and is an obvious ringer. Todd Glass, who made it pretty far in the last cycle was already an established comic as well. So established that he played Tim Taylor's father in a flashback episode of Home Improvement. Instead of having more unknowns go through to the second round, they have regulars on Comedy Central get a free pass. That would be like Billy Gillman being a contestant on American Idle; he's had a little success in country music, but no one except country fans really know who he is.

I guess NBC was so burned by Dat Phan that the pendulum has swung to the ultra-conservative, signed an established comic side.
As for Billy Gillman, he must be a robot since no one has been that unbelievably cute since that show starring Voice Input Child Indenticant otherwise known as Vicki Lawson.

So evidently you can vote for the people who didn't make it on NBC's site and eventually a 'winner' will be added to the show, or something. the site is a little vague on it really.

Psych is a whole lot of fun. Friday nights on USA. Just started last week. It's basically Zero Effect the tv show if Daryl Zero was actually a charasmatic guy instead of a total freak.

I was just about to mention Psych... great show.
Also, Glenn Becks show is now on CNN headline news. It is great!!
One of the few news programs I actually watch.
Did anyone watch "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" last night on TNT? The first episode with the Toy Soldiers was awesome, an entire hour with no dialog, and it didn't even need it. The second hour with Claire Forlani, not so much. I didn't make it even a quarter of the way thru it, and i tried, i swear.
Still i love anthology shows like this, or Outer Limits or Tales for the Crypt. Sure not all the episodes are great, but there can be some real gems in there. I'm looking forward to the rest of this season.

I freely admit that I am a huge Glenn Beck fan, and yeah, he is a dork.. but I like his show.
I was so tired of sitting down to watch the news and have Sean Hannity or Anderson Cooper shove 3 subjects into 1 hour. Have 6 people on to talk about 1 thing. And on the next news station, there are six other people talking about the same thing over and over again. It is why I like the daily show. Glenns show is a long the same lines as Jon's. I mean Jon spends half the show laughing at his own jokes too.
Plus, Glenn does a lot of stories that are not in the main stream press. Like the story about the mentally ill girl who was raped in her school stairwell. Or Operation Helmet. Just something differant...... Not the same old stories told over and over again.
Anyway, to each his own...

Fanny, like any anthology show, It'll have high points and low, but still, i liked the first ep.. enough to want it to survive, even with the excrible 2nd hour.
Bamms, i know this will come as a shock to you, but Glen Beck, Hannity and Colms, O'Rielly Factor, Countdown w/ Kieth Oberman, Scarborough Country, whatever are not News programs. they are Commentary shows. I've heard several people say that "Crouch End" is one of the creepiest stories King ever wrote, and chances are, it is. The tv version, however, was an okay version of something I've seen many times, but nothing I found particularly interesting or frightening.

Regaurdless of the simantics, if you watch these commentary shows, then you will see a huge difference in Becks show and all the other you listed. Becks show is even less like a news show than the others. It is more like the Daily Show. Sorry, ABC i always get them confused for some reason, i don't know why, except they are both stations i've traditionally not watched much. They aren't even close to each other on my local cable.
NCIS isn't a sitcom, but it does star Mark Harmon, so even with the hot gothie chick, no.

Did anyone watch "Friday Night Lights" last night? I found it very slow myself, and the football unrealistic. I'll give a few more weeks, but i suspect i'll scurry back to House when it returns after Baseball is over. High school football isn't important in Colorado (although Sheriff must have thought differently when he broke a window after a loss back in the day), so the idea of watching fake high school football seems kind of silly to me.
I was hoping for Boston Public with sports, but instead i got.... I don't know, bored.
So the new episode of Jericho was excellent. It's becoming clear that the Black guy has something to do with all the explosions. I don't know what's up with Major Dad's cough, but i suspect he's not long for the world. I just hope he holds it together 'till the end.
I suspect that a murder occured in the mine.
Between this show and Lost, we have a great 2 hours of tv on Wednesday.

Anyone else check out the Nine last night? I liked it and am curious to see more. It took me a half a second to recognize Chi McBride. I'm curious how they are going to do the flashbacks.
My Wednesday is now jammed packed. Jerico, Lost, the Nine, Daily Show, Colbert Report and South Park.

Anyone who watched Jerico notice the new doctor is one of the correspondents for the Daily show?
I didn't notice that at all. good call.

Yup. Bring on the wrongfully persecuted Arab-American subplot!
Did anyone notice that the head Ravenwood guy is played by that guy from "The Pursuit of D.B. Sweeney"?
So, is anyone watching the shorted 2nd Season of Jericho, or is it just me?
I will say it again. Jericho kicks ass. You assholes who aren't watching it, there by making it be canceled really piss me off.
Not really, i'm totally over it, but you are missing an excellent show

If Jericho kicks your ass, and no one sees it. Does the network make a sound?

You know...Jericho was one of those shows that I really wanted to be good...but it was a little too melodramatic for me.

I'm watching it! I like it. I like the overly dramatic *da da daaaaa* type moments. This week's episode was particularly awesome. DB Sweenie plays a giant a-hole really, really well. I missed last week's but read the full play by play on televisionwithoutpity, com. I'm kinda glad because I would have been a mess actually seeing it. I can't believe they did that.
You can actually watch the episodes on CBS (Or ABC whichever channel it's on) website. I'd recommend it for that one, it was really good. Totally out of the blue.
I sobbed thruout this weeks episode, between the Signlanguage talk, and Mimi's reaction to the news, i was a wreck. Yet i still shouted for joy when Palmer got the drop on the Ravenwood guys at his house. He's such a badass. And Farmboy puking his guts up at the end, was just a great touch.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody know why they never made a third season of Rome? I watched the first two a little while ago and I really enjoyed them. There is good amount of fiction mixed into the events that really happened providing a very interesting story line. Was the story finished or people just weren't watching it?

I read someone was writing a movie script to continue on the show.

In true irony, the set of Rome actually burned down. I'm not kidding. I'm not sure if that is why it was cancelled or not. I just know Dr. Who was going to shoot an episode there and couldn't.
